I checked the whitepaper and the dusk.network website but couldn't find the token allocation, any price for tokens, hardcap, softcap etc.. what i have seen a thesis grade whitepaper, too scientific. maybe they should make an easy one.

If they can bring something unique to the table and do not share the source code they can stay ahead of competition.
they need to stick to development and focus on that to get a good project on time.

Why did Waves not become popular? Too many people already using Ethereum? That could become a problem for Dusk. Even if their tech would be better, the best tech does not always win. It is incredibly hard to unseat a platform that has almost a monopoly. How do you convince people to switch from the platform they are used to?
Waves not becoming popular should not have to do anything with Dusk. Dusk Network will be more than just launching STO's because of the anonymity aspect. And for Ethereum; they sort of have monopoly on ICO's but Ethereum also has its problems, mainly scaling. Dusk on the other hand will be used to launch STO's which is completely different than Ethereum. The biggest similarity Dusk has with Ethereum is the token' utility. DUSK functions just as ETH does on their respective platform.
Waves was a bad example. It did not offer any significantly different features compared to the platforms that were already there.
Still, I think you should not underestimate the staying power of a technical inferior, such as gas lamps in London when there are electric street lights or fax machines when we have e-mail. Will Dusk's improvements and features be enough to make people stop using the platforms they are already using? Sure, the crypto world is still young and its inhabitants, most of them being private individuals and startups, are flexible, so there is a good chance there is no vendor lock-in yet. But just in case, keep in mind those gas lamps and fax machines.

There are some of similar projects with similar conception of data transmission. I cannot name them right now, but you may easily find them in the web. Almost any project concerned with data are for its secure transmitting.

Dusk Network will utilize two kind of nodes;
Network nodes - transactional network clients. They compete with each other by locking an arbitrary amount for the generating and proposing of new blocks. Block generation is a computationally light task and therefore running a node does not require neither specialised equipment nor storage. The intention is for normal mobile devices to be able to run as a node within the network. The non-deterministic nature of the bidding process makes it so that even nodes bidding the minimum amount of DUSK have a fair chance to win the block generation sortition lottery
Provisioners - These are nodes that have committed a certain minimum stake to the Dusk Network and take care of more network intensive tasks such as block verification, voting, and notarization (VVN operations). These types of nodes are non-transactional
The intention is to create an economy where nodes compete for block rewards, while Provisioners earn a steady ROI.
Am I wrong if say that network nodes are similar to masternodes, while Provisioners are similar to DPoS/LPoS nodes? If I'm right, congrats, I never saw till now a masternodes+delegates governance

What is this STO? Can you explaine? And at first this will be ERC token and than you will swap to native coins When maiinet launch?
You can read more aboutt ICO's vs STO's here! And yes, DUSK will start out as an ERC20 tokens until the mainnet launch where the ERC20 equivalent must be swapped to the native DUSK token.
So I can safely assume that it will work like Swarm and Waves where you just issue tokens without the need of a smart contract? I always wondered how it works for Waves for example (Swarm just issue tokens based on Stellar's blockchain)

Imho Waves was aiming too low to begin with, and at the start, having roots in nxt coin, they were mainly interested in the tokenisation and the fiat gateway. Not sure what theyare doing now though.
Dusk on the other hand seems to be doing something that has not been done before and having such a bright team, i really think they have an edge on delivering and edge on gaining a monopoly on their field.
As what I've understand, DUSK Network aims to overcome certain limitations of other crypto networks and provide the best possible features technically available. This could be the next big thing if delivered successfully!
