https://www.reddit.com/r/EthereumClassic/comments/57grtp/general_community_clarification_post/Hi everyone,
I just wanted to put together a quick post in reference to the following:
Community discussion - Takes place in various channels
Community opinion - Large community with various opinions
Community proposals - 1 Place =
https://github.com/ethereumproject/ECIPs (Ethereum Classic Improvement Proposals)
All of the above are an important part of the process that drives Ethereum Classic forward.
Discussion >> Opinions >> Proposal (ECIP) >> Debated >> Accepted/Rejected >> Implementation
Community Discussion
Community discussion takes place in many different channels across many different platforms. Slack, telegram, wechat, gitter, reddit, forums, in person, etc etc etc etc the list goes on. Now, I do agree that there is some discussion fragmentation that I am going to work on but I believe there is nothing malicious about community members having private discussions about the project. Are we to forbid people from discussing ETC in person without it being recorded and published? Many discussions are had and during those discussions opinions are formulated which brings me to my next bullet point.
Community Opinions
There are many opinions throughout the community. These opinions that are formed in various channels through discussion are often posted on forums for more in depth analysis. A community member such as igetgames posting his opinion about dropping into "maintenance mode" is important for thoughtful discussion. However, it is an important to remember that at this point "maintenance mode" is just an opinion of a particular community member/s. I have opinions as well but they remain opinions until an ECIP (Ethereum Classic Improvement Proposal) is submitted, debated, accepted and implemented.
Community Proposals
After discussions are had and opinions are formed ECIP's are proposed at the following link :

Many discussions and debates take place after an ECIP is proposed but the great thing is that the discussions are very focused and productive. Anyone is free to submit an ECIP, it will be judged on its merits by anyone that wishes to pass judgement. Not only will the ECIP be scrutinized but anyone taking a position for or against the ECIP will have their opinion scrutinized as well. The process is in fact a very daunting gauntlet but this ensures that only the strongest proposals make it through.
Looking forward to reading your thoughts on the above.
Cheers Carlo
