I have a question about the Automatic Checkpointing tech. --- Does this help to prevent involuntary chain splitting, or is it only to protect against 51% attacks?

It is designed to prevent a 51% attack - there is a more thorough explanation on the website FAQ and one of several new features included to protect the coin and/or the users.

Well, we have to understood we are not dealing with crytpo traders and bitcoin birthed crytpo, huge difference. I agree that less is better, but our generation is more visual. My input would be that when I open up the page I know I am looking at a currency I can buy guns with. Look at http://bitcoinfast.co/ . All someone really needs to know is name, specifications, pools and wallet. On a positive note, the Users guide is nice, push that, I dont know of many out there with that and a really good way to go into detail if someone wants to dig into coin. All that info does not necessarily have to be on the home page. If it is setup right, the crawlers will index that users guide and tag all relevant info, you already have #2 position on Google when searching Gun coin, so SEO is an non issue.

Websites are cheap to get done. Cost is not an issue. If you are getting big price quotes, you better shop around. You can outsource that stuff on places like fiverr.com for almost nothing

I agree it needs to load fast but we are past dial up age and bandwidth is non issue for a few simple graphics and GIFs.

just some ideas my friend. I promise you I am for cryptos moving forward without cheap gimmicks and most certainly a strong advocate for our 2nd Amendment Rights.

You can bet on this, to get the community to rally around the coin, LISTEN TO THEM. The mentality "build it and they will come" does not work with many new coins being birthed everyday. I am here to help

Funny you should mention BCF..  I mined a bit of that in the beginning, then the wallet disconnected and I forgot all about it.  It had this hokey thing, where you had to leave the wallet unlocked in order to multiply or something like that.  So, you posted the link and I decided to take a look, and this is all I got..
Code:
We're sorry, but something went wrong.

The issue has been logged for investigation. Please try again later.

BCF is still hokey, I'm glad I wasn't holding out for a miracle!!   Tongue

You make very good points about the website, bandwidth isn't an issue for most people, its implementations of java, etc, so simply avoiding that will alleviate a lot of the issues, and bloat as well since java gets bloated easily.  And I had thought about going to fiverr myself to have some videos made for the website.

As far as Guncoin intended customers, I got involved for exactly that purpose.  I'm pro-2A, own a few guns and use them whenever I get a chance.  I'm also a miner and crypto trader, so I see both sides of it.  I was part of the dev team before work started taking up 60 to 80 hours a week, and there wasn't time for it anymore.  What I was aiming us toward, was ease of use for non techies.  I had even scoped out tablets running windows, so that they could be used as a point of sale unit with a regular wallet, and cost under $100 so the investment to use it was small.  Even so, that would have been too complicated for many people, this is why I'm convinced that the online wallet is critical.

One thing GUN could do to help itself is redo that website, not being a basher, just saying that it is really subpar for a legit business. There are canned websites that look better.  Again I am here to help, I am a gun owner and would love to see this excel.

We already have someone looking at that and has given us a few pictures as to what it would look like.  For now, there will not be anything major as most of our resources are devoted to the coin itself.  But it will be a little fresher.  One requirement, is that I am able to do updates myself when ever I want, without having to get in line for a programmer to do it for me.  That way the info stays current.  While we have not approved the new design yet, we are pretty close to having something a little ready.  BUT we are not going overboard with pages and pages of animations that do nothing but eat bandwidth.  All that being said, there is not a more boring site than bitcoin.org.   BTC has managed to do OK.....

There was an online wallet that was recently hacked, and the hack was at the DNS level (BlackWallet I think, for a coin called Stellar.) So... keep that in mind.

Yes, I am aware of several of those.  While it would be a great thing to have, it is not something that you just stick on any server and treat it as an ordinary website.  There would need to be layer upon layer of security built into it.  None of which would be cheap - and would need round the clock support.  All that being said, if someone wants to bite that off and go do it now, they are welcome to it.  For now, we have it on our evaluation list for a long term GUN project.  We have V1.3 and V1.4 in our sites right now.

Im sure, depending on how you can make someone understand it, could run paper wallets for the time being no?

I seen some generators, use em offline to create, then load them up. Could print those up real nice with the PB/PR keys on it and toss the GC logo and such.

Then when a desired wallet platform for said user can be decided they can load to their choice wallet.

I know the nature of paper and ink people worry about loss, but temporarily would suffice.

I've thought about using paper wallets for prizes at shooting events, and giveaways at gun shows.  Who else would need them?

Well, you are correct - that is the main reason we have the users guide.  Many of these are just hearing about bitcoin and ethereum for the first time.  So this is all new to them.  Back in 2014, GUN was just too early for these types.  But now, GUN is probably just what they are looking for - a better alternative for their payment system and a pretty good long term investment as well.  That is why a lot of what we are doing is in keeping things as simple as we can and make it as easy to setup and use as possible.  It seems to us, that will encourage more to try it, if there is not a dozen books an classes to sit through to use it.

I say to prove security, whatever gets paid to the coder gets left in a wallet on the site for a week as a bounty for hackers to try out, before any users put any funds in there.  Put your money where your mouth is, right?   lol

Hmmm, will see how many programmers want that deal.  The security on something like that would be pretty intense for sure.  Keep in mind, different programmers/developers have different skill sets and very few can do everything.  It is a huge difference in programming for what Bushstar is doing for us now and a mobile wallet and an online wallet.  That being said, we do have someone lined up to do a mobile wallet when this phase of upgrades is done.  For the long term, an online wallet seems to be a good option for our typical user.  We are already looking into implementation options, but at best that would be an option for late 2018 with everything else we have planned this year and most of our current resources already committed.  HOWEVER, a separate website etc.  does not necessarily have to be create and managed by TEAM GUN, but would need to be coordinated with us to make sure all is in sync.  Again, no firm plans, but sounds like it is a reasonable expectation for the future of GUN to have an online wallet.

We have had quite a few online gun stores and businesses contact us recently just through the contact page on the main website.  They are VERY new to crypto currency and were thrilled to learn there is a cryptocurrency they can use today and that it is looking to improve itself all the time - like we are.

So they all have the Users Guide and are learning about GUN and crypto for now and are looking forward to the mobile wallet after we get V1.4 completed in a few weeks.  Additionally, we are considering (not for sure yet), doing an online GUN Wallet (like MyMonero or MyEtherWallet, etc.).  Having used both of those two, we can see the benefit for having one online instead of tied to your computer.  There is no downloading, setup or risk of loosing your hard drive, etc.  Plus you can access it from any computer any time.

We think for the local gun establishments out there this might be an outstanding option to supplement a PC/MAC wallet and a mobile wallet.......Comments/feedback???

I believe that an online wallet would be a great option to have.

It would need to be as secure as possible, with as little downtime as possible, so users know that their GunCoin is as safe and accessible as can be.

A user interface that is simple to understand, with maybe some nondescript links to information/website/etc...

Having the ability to import private keys could be helpful too.

I have been thinking about an online wallet for a while, and provided that it is secured well, it's a definite plus in getting to the intended users..

Also, the ability to just type a name, like "Dave's gun shop" and have a guncoin address already associated would be great!! (obviously account setup in advance required, with verification so some honyock doesn't end up with "demolition ranch")

Could even do 2fa QR codes with a mobile app for extra security.

I say to prove security, whatever gets paid to the coder gets left in a wallet on the site for a week as a bounty for hackers to try out, before any users put any funds in there.  Put your money where your mouth is, right?   lol

In my personal experience, people that are enthusiastic about guns tend to be in completely different circles then those that are enthusiastic about crypto (or computer hardware in general). Of course there are exceptions (like myself for example), but hearing that there are gun store owners and businesses interested is very encouraging news.

Guncoin (GUN) now has a Slack channel I am pleased to report.  You can visit it at https://guncoin.slack.com/messages. ( a few of you that I had email addresses on may have already got an invite)

Members of the GUN team will visit it several times each day!  Additionally, we have updated the OP to include the new mining pools recently added and a few more links.
