We did a server switchover last night with no issues.  However, the main site was down during the process - Back to normal now and a little faster.  For those in the USA in the GUN community, we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving holiday and safe travels if you venture out from home and back this weekend!

We have accumulated a decent list of gun shops and businesses that accept bitcoin and it is bigger than I expected.  We are building it into a spreadsheet with contact info, etc.  While I am not going to post them publically (and give them free advertising), I will make it available to those interested in walking in the door of one that might be nearby in their community to talk GUN with them once we complete our upgrades and have the mobile wallet running later this year.  If they already accept BTC, 2/3 of the battle is already done for us.  Once the list is complete, I will post the cities they are in for this thread to see if you have one close.

I see that we have some updated info on the OP.

The block reward schedule I believe is a good one.

We'll have a bunch of coins total, but not too much where one might say "Oh my, there are too many coins", but yet plenty enough so when this gets more use we won't need to worry about decimal places for quite some time.

Also.....nice to see that GUN is still in a relatively early block reward phase, so any newcomers shouldn't feel left out in regard to mining, since nobody likes missing the boat.

Yes, brought everything current to where we are today - the block rewards has long been something to add, but constantly overlooked.  Doing a bit of website maintenance this week as well.

I like Sarah Palin. Alaska is one of those few states that don't require a permit to conceal or open carry.

She would have been a fun VP.  I wonder if they would have allowed her to open carry in the White House?  Bloomberg would have been thrilled!

It makes sense then, to not really worry about bootstrapping.

Happening that quickly does not seem like an issue at all, and a lot simpler than downloading, unzipping, replacing files in the directory, etc...

That would be correct.  Bumped way down the priority list for sure.

Do you have a bootstrap?

I think with the new update coming out in a few days, the bootstrap is no longer necessary.  V1.2 was tested on 3 PCs that have never seen a crypto wallet before on Windows and it loaded the entire blockchain in about and hour and ten minutes or less on all of them.

We do have GUN V1.2 in beta test right now, running on a Windows machine and it looks pretty good.  We expect to release V1.2 for WIN, LINUX and MAC all within a few days from now or sooner.

FYI, V1.2 will be a soft fork, NOT a hard fork.  In other words, V1.2 will be backwards compatible with V1.1 and your GUN wallet or mining will not die if you do not upgrade immediately.  As such, every one can switch over when it is convenient after we make the general announcement - the sooner the better.  This will be the first of several releases before the end of the year.  Once all the updates are rolled in and everyone is on board, then we will move forward with a mobile wallet.

One item to note, where as with the old wallet, it took about 8 hours to download the whole blockchain to a new wallet, this one does it in under an hour.  The embedded seed nodes help with that.  We are in also in the process of updating content for this thread and the website as well to support the new release.  At that time, we will provide a set of release notes to describe what all was included in V1.2.

As always, we appreciate your support and your patience as we transitioned to the new and improved GUN V1.2 shortly.

How does one generate a bootstrap from an existing local blockchain? (Mine isn't updated yet.)

I do not know exactly.  I sent a request to one of our developer experts to ask him if that is possible already.

I believe that having a bootstrap is an EXCELLENT idea.

Is there some way that the GUN community can get involved (such as maybe a BTC donation address) to help cover expenses to make that happen?

Yeah...I know I mentioned BTC, but our GUN isn't quite viable enough yet to directly pay developers, and selling GUN to cover costs at this time seems counterproductive.

Someday........

I think actual bootstrap files are deprecated, but there's nothing to stop someone from just sharing the datadir Zipped without the wallet.dat and log files obviously, that will always work.   If someone wanted to experiment with that and create something, we could add it to the website as a download. Need to make sure we know what date it ended at.

IMHO, this would be something the community could do to support the coin.  Right now, I am focused on the upgrade in work.  FYI, you will notice some of the artwork and coin design have already changed on the website.  More cosmetic changes should be done by this weekend.  The final updates to GUN code are being tested now.  Once we confirm their functionality with no bugs, I will provide release notes for your review.  No firm release date yet, but I would expect that everyone should be running GUN V1.2 by the end of the year.

Do you have a bootstrap?

Sorry, to say that I do not.  That is one of the items on our "To Do" List and a good idea for a coin that is over 3 years old I guess.  Maybe someone else on the thread has one or can generate one for general use.
