Somebody will answer where Sia a wallet keeps the downloaded blocks?

In your Sia folder, under /resources/app/Sia/consensus/

it works! ... (just gotta watch that little "siad" thingy) just shut that down properly if needed and its all good  Cheesy

Can you elaborate? I ran the 0.4.2 GUI and after shutting down noticed siad still running. I killed the process and when the GUI is restarted get the error message "siad exited with code: 0"

How exactly does one go about shutting down siad "properly" (linux?) and is there a way to recover from these corruption issues?

Edit: I managed to remove the consensus file and start over. That seems to fix it.

Question: Where can I find a mining how-to? I downloaded Sia-UI-v0.4.2-beta-linux64.tar.gz which does not seem to include a miner. I've seen GUI screenshots with a Miner tab, which my GUI also is missing. How do I go about accessing the mining options in the GUI?

I have recovered my "lost" (not really lost) coins by switching back to 3.3.3 (I think these are recently mined).
Don't erase old wallets when you upgrade.

I think the dev team should focus on the good functionning of the coin before improving file sharing : this include fixing problems on the wallet, use of a good difficulty adjustement algo (the difficulty is too slow in adjustements : you may see the delta algo used by guldencoin for instance) to keep the block time more regular...

On the other hand, I still believe on this projetc and I have invested a bit more thanks to the rather low prices.

We've spent the entire past two weeks working on the problems you've been complaining about (UNRELIABLE WALLETS)...
And done nothing with file storage or mining pools since people have been having trouble.

Hey, man, I like this project and think Dev is competent and this could be a home run...
BUT the wallet has to be rock solid and a priority or nothing else really matters...
Which is what the highly efficient Alt Coin Market is telling you with the 12-13 sat price.

Personally, I will never move any coins from Polo until the wallet issues are long gone.

That said, keep up the good work...
You have a chance to eat Storj's lunch and would match their cap at about 60 sats = 500% move.

The current price of Sia which is 11 satoshi is quite depressing.
From a previous peak of 36 satoshis 11 days ago and now down to this.
Now is the time to load up on coins. Soon as new wallet releases with fixes and the word spreads the price will move back up. Its just one of those coins that reflects the state of development with SIA. Which is completely unlike all other coins that way.  Smiley

Most coins have high and lows, even good ones...

now is the time to have patience, lol I bought my first batch on Polo at 29 then when it dropped buying up more brought my average price per coin way down  Cool it seems to be a solid long term project... like minerman said highs and lows, buy on the lows then if/when it spikes sell a few to take a bit of profit but I have a feeling you'll want to hold onto the majority cause in a bit of time 30 or 40 could be the new floor lol it is cryptoland after all Grin ya never know

I'm trying to recover wallet without the wallet.json in command line. So I after I type siac wallet load seed it asks for the password. So I type

the 29 word password then it says new seed: what do I type here?

Also can this be done with the UI yet? It doesn't seem to.

Just for the record, I have used every wallet since day one. I have never lost any coins, even after 2 corrupted wallets.... once corrected those coins always where there. Of course you need to unlock the 4.1 if ya want to see them  Wink

Bugs will be worked out. I am confident Taek and the others will perfect this wallet which is a true work of genius.  Smiley

Well good for you..
Maybe you haven't actually 'used' the wallets like making transactions... but I see more people complaining about losing coins for a few months now(when was 3.3.2 released?) .  I've lost about 50% of the coins on 3 different occasions and on 3 different wallets..

These issues have never been addressed appropriately and the devs only keep pushing for the next buggy release..
I wasn't bragging Mishax, only making a point. Its wise to always test your new wallet on another pc with a limited amount of coins only, rather then the one with your bulk of coins.

And yes I have used the wallets in everyway since June 7th, hosting, uploading mp3 files, transferring coins to test wallets from main wallet, mining, sending coins to main from mining rigs wallets, uploading coins and selling on Poli, withdrawing coins from Poli back to main wallet and sold some in the early days to those that needed some for testing before Poli... so to your insinuation I haven't used the wallet? well

As a user be cautious and test everything with small amounts of coins before risking you stash  Smiley

PS: I guess there is always a chance I could lose my coins at some point but it won't be because I didn't exercise prudence while in beta..... and I have stayed on top of what others in here have suggested in solving problems or work arounds to correct as in the corrupted wallet issue... cause I wasn't smart enough to figure out what went wrong on my own...  Grin

I have never lost coins either and I have definitely made many transactions and used all the versions of the wallet so far. Many of the "lost" coins that people have reported turned out to not be lost at all. Bugs? Definitely. But each consecutive release has had improvements in security and as it stands having a wallet that can be recovered with a passphrase makes this one of the harder wallets out there to lose coins on. The reports of losing coins have been way overblown and caused panic when using the GUI because the slow loading and database corruption give the unfortunate illusion of "lost" coins when this is not the case. I am not saying that Mishax made some sort of user errors to lose coins, but in the troubleshooting channel of slack I have definitely read some steps people took that lead to their own loss, such as deleting backups, etc.

We've spent the entire past two weeks working on the problems you've been complaining about, and done nothing with file storage or mining pools since people have been having trouble.

We can't switch the difficulty algo, most of the popular ones have problems with other attacks such as difficulty raising attacks.

I'm sorry that everyone feels like switching back to 0.3.3.3 is the safest thing to do. As far as losing coins is concerned, 0.4.x is far safer. The UI has bugs where it won't show your balance (we're working on it), and the consensus database has corruption issues (also working on it - it's done but need to continue testing to make sure no consensus forks were introduced).

I'm sorry the 0.4.x series has been so buggy.  Undecided. We solved a lot of the major security issues but in the process we destroyed usability.
I would not blame you about this : the project is ambitious, you and your team has done a huge amount of work.
You have been active et helpful when some of us had have problems.
Don't be to much sorry.
About difficulty algo : it would be helpful while hasrate is up and down and on the low side : some coins with good trading volume and high market cap use them without problems I believe. On the other hand,  once pools are ready, it should be less of a problem with hasrate more stable : did you contact ocminer for some help on this? he is really good setting up pools for coins which are not bitcoin clones  in the pow side (spreadcoin, ethereum ...).
