I'm sure many times when someone is fudding they're trying to get people to dump into their buy orders.

I haven't been following SC for long but it seems to have some real potential, how many coins will there be after 1 year? is there a cap

if MINT can hold 15-25 as well as it has with 22 billion coins, then a project like SC should be able to hold much greater value over time HA as long as we don't end up with too many billion

I tend to look at marketcap rather than price which is still very very low.  Because actually supply of coins is a red herring, you can have a trillion coins and be underpriced. The total supply is 4billion I think with some relatively minor inflation annually.

Current supply is about 5 billion. One year from now it will be around 16 billion. Sia is only a few months old, which means the inflation rate is going to continue to be very high for a while. However, the growth rate should also be very high. After about 6 years the inflation rate will dip below 3% annually.

In the latest 32 bit version I found that siad cannot be run. The package may have included the 64 bit siad.exe by mistake?

Will look into it. You are running the GUI? Do you have a more specific error message?

Is there information will appear when a new version of the graphic wallet v0.4.3.
2 days I have problems with version v0.4.2 database already lost and coins !!! Hopefully the problems in v0.4.3 be eliminated soon, because it will make me abandon Mining of this coin! Unfortunately, of course!  Sad

You should not have lost any coins. Database corruption does not result in lost coins. Make sure you unlock the wallet after your database resynchronizes.

Meanwhile, this version is super, mega, terra ..... buggy in any way you can not close wallet without lost coins - about 1000000 S! Too bad that I believed in this project, but so far to stop mining until you solve the problems with the database!  Angry

ive now lost almost 8 million also ... and that was the last one ...

taek - is there anyway to recoup the lost coins? ... or are they gone forever? ...

As you saw, coins are not gone. 0.4.x wallets should have lots of strong protections against losing coins. Coins are safe even when the database corrupts.

Currently working on fixing the database corruption. At this point, my development branch no longer experiences database corruption, but I am still testing to make sure more bugs were not introduced. Blockchain download is also much faster as a result of the fixes.

Current sia hashing rate (according to http://explore.siacoin.com/) is 1.407528 TH/s.

The highest I've seen.

Edit: Now it dropped to more familiar 642.957488 GH/s. Strange.

thats because its not strange Wink ...

it happens when miners come and go ... as you know ...

it will pick up again ... when the new wallet is a hell of a lot more stable ...

?!?!?!?!??!?!?!

Does anyone know anything about it Huh

its a hug amount ive lost now - and as impressed as i am with teh whole project - and KNOW that it is worth it for the storage facilities - i must agree that minign for me has also stopped ...

i have NOT lost faith in the project - as i am willing to help in anyway i can ... even to host servers that will help the network ... but im at a loss as understand how we can continue to mine and lose coins that could be used for storage later ...

i think if anything - that should be the priority ... the safety of the funds in the wallet via the stability of the wallet ...

tanx taek ...

edit - wait up ... the coins have re-appeared ... have you got your wallet locked or unlocked? ... it seems when you unlock the wallet and wait a few minutes - the coins re-appear ...

There is no good exchange but the problem with Polinex which is really making the market is they almost actively dismiss any long term great projects for easy hypeable coins with no real long term future. Plus it's easy to FUD SC, someone says there are too many coins and the price tumbles.
The amount of coins shouldnt make any difference since even bitcoins are divisible up to a 100 000 000 times. We could just as well argue that there are too many bitcoins. 0.00000001btc is still bitcoin.
Amirite? I've thought about this before, and it always annoys me to see new coins with small supply. Personally I'd much rather buy 100btc for $100 than 0.3 or whatever, because its more convenient.

There is a psycological effect and a trading effect with a small unit of account.
The latter come from the bid/ask spread : while sia is trading in the 10-20 satoshi range, the bid/ask spread is at least  between 5% and 10% since trading in most places doesn't use decimals beyond satoshi. On the other hand, trading in kilo-sia would lead to a range which could be as low as 0.005%-0.01%.
Suppose you bought sia, then latter you want to sell : with stable price, you will loose 5-10% of value.

Now imagine some dips in the 5 satoshis (it has happened to mintcoin) : 20% spread...

Yeah I do agree that when we are trading around 10-20 sats moves are a bit binary and can make any moves in price violent, that can also be good, but  yeah it scares some I think. Far better when rises are smaller and aren't so drastic.....hopefully we will be in the 100's of sats soon so this is less of an issue.

Just so:
Have anyone contact bittrex to add Siacoin!? We have volume...

They won't add it, they don't like adding unique coins/assets , that is probably why they didn't add Ether which had and still has massive volume..  or Maidsafe, or w/e..
They mainly add shitcoins and scamcoins which are copy-pasta and easy to operate..

They did eventually add ETH, but yeah I agree with your sentiment. Poloniex will keep even low volume coins that hold a strong place in crypto history. I remember when Bittrex delisted Peercoin but then added Nubits. No rhyme or reason.

Edit: well I guess they did add Peercoin back on Bittrex. I stand corrected. Anyhow, that was not your point. Bittrex does love to add scamcoins as long as they have the 3 BTC to pay.
Ya Bittrex Richie luvs to cash in on the scam coins... watch em pump and dump and make a nice quick buck for sure....  Grin

Sorry for asking  Grin
I just think that we have to move SC also to other exchanges to get out of the same sell/buy circle... to increase the recognisability and price.... SC is great... it would be shame to lose the momentum

No worries, it was not a bad question. There are pros and cons to adding to another exchange at this point. Arbitrage creates sell pressure is one con a this point. Sure there is decent volume for  a single exchange, but I am not sure another exchange at right now would add to volume rather than divide it. I predict that Sia will be subject to slow growth due to the inflationary curve over the next year. As its a long term project I am now content to not worry about the price. It is one of the few projects out there that I can say that about. My humble opinion.  Wink

Ok, to stop siad on W7: NOT USING TASK MANAGER

Using CMD prompt, change directory (cd) to - example command line: cd C:\Users\XXX\Desktop\Sia-UI-v0.4.2-beta-win64\Sia-UI-v0.4.2-beta-win64\resources\app\Sia   (or wherever you have you SIA 4.2 directory) in my case it is on my desktop.

Then type: siac stop

Got the message: Sia daemon stopped

Restarted wallet, unlocked it, all good.

Just not sure if I did not do the above step to close siad, and I do a PC restart will that corrupt file again? I don't feel like testing that lol.... in the event of a power failure, PC shut down etc. that could result in corrupt files again.... we will need a better way to totally close siad in the future so there is NO risk of corruption in any way  Wink

You can shift+right click the SIA folder and open a command prompt with the location already set.

Or just make a batch file.
Hey neat trick!  Wink

Sure is a quicker way to get there, skips the cd part lol

Thanks for that reminder Smiley

Can sia run over the TOR network?

I'm guessing that it cannot, at least not well. But maybe.

For those who have not seen this document yet, a lot of Sia is covered here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zNpAct53E_5p4KO3_-ZOrg5N9HQw8ACTQ7zAyksSIf8/edit?pli=1
