Make sure you get the plain steel kind, don't fall for those pretty all plastic or plastic-coated ones, they won't work.   Grin

The plastic coated ones are nice because you can strip just the tips that go into the ATX plug, and you're left with a safe, plastic-coated, non-conducting loop sticking out.

The advantage is - it has double purpose:
 1. Use it to power on your miner - no need of leads, the gold is great conductor and the ATX plug holes are near the same size
 2. Once the miner is no longer profitable - use it to hold your mined cash

So it is definitely worth it!

EDIT: i wonder if the seller will pay me for the advertisement Smiley

This one will definitely work http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-TIFFANY-CO-14k-Yellow-Gold-Paperclip-Money-Clip-AUTHENTIC-/251315884101045

Only if you solder leads to it.  Cheesy

The m-board seems to require 2 molex cables but I don't know whether an ATX PSU will supply power with only that or whether it must necessarily be signaled specifically via the PSU's 24-pin connector.

The post you quoted is specifically telling you that you need to jump the 24 pin to turn on the psu.  You cannot turn on a psu via the molex connectors.  You don't need a Breakout board, it can be done with a paper clip.  A board will make it tidier and allow you to power the rpi from the atx as well.

I plan on using the paperclip trick and some electrical tape.

Note:  Best to not to run your PSU with no load for long.  Bad for the PSU.

Hi, in layman terms, what exactly are those gadgets for? Don't want to miss out anything important for my setup.

A normal computer power supply does not turn on the rails inside the computer until the computer tells it to by putting an 'on' signal on one of the pins of the motherboard connector.  These devices supply that signal.

If you connect your rig to an ATX power supply without something like this it won't run - there won't be any power supplied.

in addition, I suspect that we will need to create a special cable to power the rPI from the ATX.  Those type of boards have break out power pins so you can attach a 5 volt wire and ground wire to a usb cable.  An alternitive would be to power the rPI off a normal wall wart but that seems a waste when you have the ATX supply right there beside it.

does the kit need anything more to function?

i see the m board has 2 wire connectors and the rPi needs 5v usb

where does the PSU fit in?

Wow. Thanks for the info.  The product details page in the store makes it look much easier.

In a way, requiring some electrical engineering/soldering skills can make it so more fun for hardcore miners though :-) just like driving a comfy yet boring Mercedes vs a 4WD in a muddy road. I just hope Dave can provide us some info on how to set this up (including mining software configuration) ideally without requiring any soldering skills once final product specs are frozen.

I'm leaning towards having the new M-board design made here in the states on a quick turn.  If I can't make that happen, I'll supply an appropriate cable so we don't have any confusion.

This is the post I missed, answers my question.

We wont know it in next 2 weeks and most likely we will get new Mboard.  If anyone need it for turn on psu with this thing http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/atx-breakout-board-bench-power-supply-p-1222.html?cPath=1_4

Or this one.

There are probably several of these transactions running around out there. This is mine. A little proof that not all were auto refunded from square.

Dave - Are the credit card orders that went through successfully on the square site still ok? For the ones that actually charged the credit cards?

No.  Square auto-refunded all the transactions.  If you incurred fees or lost money due to exchange rates, I will cover it on the next go-round.

Square has not auto refunded my $1300.  I assume that if they haven't refunded mine there could be others that aren't refunded either. How do you want to handle this?

Thanks!
