I think you all are aware of the Canadian exchange "Quadriga" incident. Around $190 million lost according to Kraken exchange.
Absolutely insane if one man were in charge of other people assets, without any backups to pay back if something where to happen (in this case) the only person in authority over the funds.

There are more sketchy details about this Quadriga exchange, but time will tell what really happened.

Yes, an exchange is the ideal way for an exchange to store currency that belongs to the exchange (you actually own 0 of the currency you deposit to an exchange).
If you want to store currency and retain ownership of it, never store it on any exchange.

Yes, an exchange is the ideal way for an exchange to store currency that belongs to the exchange (you actually own 0 of the currency you deposit to an exchange).
If you want to store currency and retain ownership of it, never store it on any exchange.

Oh no, this is really a problem with other exchanges like cryptopia. I will just hope that you will get your crypto back. Anyway, it would be better to chose a local exchange since for me it is an ideal way of storing crypto especially if you do not want to buy a hardware wallet for storing offline crypto like bitcoin. But this is just limited to the coins that has the feature of storing crypto offline.

IMHO the Cryptopia Guys are not handling the PR well. It's several days since the police apparently gave Topia the okay to reopen. But no Twitter post since then.

Whatever: my thought is: we continue developing our other exchanges. And if Topia reopens, well . . . that's good. And if it doesn't, we have hit the ground running.

Other communities may sit around in a daze. But not us!
