fwiw, I broadly agree - with some reservations:

!. There are namespace issues: - how are we going to differentiate my "MyWallet1" from your "MyWallet1"?

something easier to type like "Mywaller15"

...

you can just say "Mywallet15"

2. Your quintessentially human (and, from Sod's Law, entirely predictable) error is one rather strong reason why the UI should work to help the user avoid trivial but potentially expensive mistakes - the uncompromising appearance of hash strings acts as a clear signal to the user that checking the transcription is a necessary step in a such a transaction if the latter is to have the best chance of success.

I cannot think of a RL example of your "short codes" but if there is one, it could be mined for approaches to solutions.

Cheers,

GPU miners and people in general are going to go to the coin that is the most profitable.  Not the coin with the best technology.  The only reason a consumer would want to exchange currency into any coin is if it offered a feature they need.

Darkcoin has the ability to send transactions anonymously which some consumers need or want to stop people from tracking their movements with their currency.  True, that Darkcoin hasn't fully implemented this yet however with many consumers betting that when it does go online the market value will skyrocket so they are investing dollars now on the cheap.

Hirocoin needs a similar feature.  If not anonymous, than some other consumer based benefit that makes the coin more attractive.  For instance, figure out the confirmation delay problem that plagues Bitcoin and other coins.  Some coins speed up the confirmations but do so in an insecure way.  If anything is going to hurt Bitcoin's future adoption as a replacement for cash it's going to be the confirmations taking 10 minutes for each one.  Nobody in their right mind is going to sell something and wait around at the cash register for half an hour for the clerk to say, "Ok, it looks good."   Fix this problem and you have a good idea.  Maybe something like the Masternodes that Darkcoin uses that confirm the transactions faster with authority to do so.

Come up with a way to make the transaction addresses more simple.  Like leave it as the HASH, but offer some kind of network translation so that afjwq0f8hjqw08cnw[09qj  is equal to something easier to type like "Mywaller15" that people can register (Maybe burn coins) and creates a permanent link to the address.  That would be SO MUCH EASIER to give someone.  If they said, "What's your Hirocoin wallet address?" you can just say "Mywallet15" instead of saying "Ok, it's is Alpha, Frank, Jessie, Woodward, Quinoa, Zero, Frank, Eighter, Hugo..."  Zzzz...  That's the worst.

Think about the end user, the consumer and their adoption of the coin.  Make it easier to use!  Then people will use it.  Imagine your Grandma trying to use a Cryptocurrency.  Try to make it so your Grandma could figure it out.  And then you'll get all the Grandma's money invested in the coin, etc.

Right now you're just trying to appeal to miners, and miners are going to just go to whatever coin has the most profit.

I don't understand how the "Import QR" feature works ...
I created a new address, displayed it using "Show QR Code" and then saved to a .png file
Opened the .png file in mspaint which displayed the QR Code.
Clicked "Import QR", pointed the window at the QR Code displayed in mspaint and clicked "Snap".
Well, the window closed and nothing happened ...
What am I missing ?

Hi, you imported a QR code that already exists in your wallet by the sounds of it, which would not do anything because you already have the address in your wallet.

This is for people to import QR codes generated with a paper wallet generator of some kind. I built one a while ago but haven't got round to updating the artwork for our new logo. I'm in a bit of coding downtime at the moment due to illness, so I will spend some time fixing that instead :-)

Is there any concrete thing being done to make HIRO more useful in the real world and thus create true value? Currently there is nothing that would make someone actually need HIRO as opposed to many other cryptocurrencies.
I'm really asking this out of legitimate interest, not to spread FUD, but let it be clear that being X11 does not count as something useful, there are dozens of other x11 coins by now and it never mattered if a random assortment of miners are coming here in the future

It is a good question, what can we do to make ourselves stick out?

I hope that some people take some solace in the fact that we just added a new unique feature in Hirocoin, the ability to import private keys from QR codes. This is a neat feature but it is niche, however it shows that we are earnest about developing Hirocoin and can stand out from the majority of coins that we see launched where the devs disappear soon after launch. In fact, as I have said before, if you are technical you can take a look at the effort put into launching this coin to see that a proper and complete job was done bringing this coin into existence more so than the other X11 coins that have some out, no offence Darkcoin, but even they forgot to do a lot of things before launch like change the alert keys, pchMessageStart, PROTOCOL_VERSION and so on. I helped out Darkcoin with this and added the makekeypair command so that Evan could generate new alert keys to avoid picking up alert from Litecoin. The point is that no one puts the effort that we have put into Hirocoin if we were not intending to be committed to its longevity.

So what do we do from here?

It is not easy to find the killer application for Hirocoin. Let's make sure that we are at least the best of breed. So if anyone sees a good feature elsewhere in crypto bring my attention to it as we want to have all the good features that are available. As for more unique features I think we need ideas on this front. The easy thing to do is keep up-to-date with Bitcoin by moving to the latest code base. I've not had much interest on moving to the 0.9 codebase but it is on my agenda anyway.

Let's not only move to the latest code base and take the best but let's find other unique features to develop. The fact is that Bitcoin does what the majority of other coins offer, what needs to happen to secure our longevity and market success is find an area to move into that Bitcoin cannot follow. Something that for whatever reason Bitcoin would not be interested in being used for. If we can find an area to segment into and then rule it then that is how we win long term.

To start with we set ourselves to exist in a GPU only segment. So that all of those GPU miners who have to find another solution have one in us. Darkcoin is doing very well but as said before they have the inverse difficulty reward. So the more people that mine Darkcoin the lower the reward. This makes for an odd inflation model and one would guess that this is a indirect bid for scarcity. We have no such feature so hope to be a better choice for miners. We are yet to see the true impact of Scrypt ASICs but that time is coming soon. I remember well what the impact of SHA-256 ASICs had for Litecoin when the GPU miners had to migrate. Litecoin went from 2 cents to several dollars and never looked back. There is only a couple of months now before we will see the Scrypt ASICs come out, it is going to be a very interesting time.

If you know of a good feature or have in your mind a feature that does not yet exist then please let me know. We can make this happen and for new features it can happen with Hirocoin first like the import QR code feature. I am optimistic about what Hirocoin will be able to achieve long term.

Thank you for your reply, it made clear to me that you are still interested and have a vision backed by simple and straightforward logic that I dont disagree with.

>So if anyone sees a good feature elsewhere in crypto bring my attention to it as we want to have all the good features that are available.
A feature that a lot of people care about, both for personal reasons and for commerce seem to be anonymity of transactions, the coins whose community AND value grew most recently were DRK, XC and the cryptonote coins, all who offer or intend to offer this feature. So my suggestion would be to incorporate it on HIRO, you are the developer so you are the one to decide how it should be done, but apparently mixing based in trustless nodes like XC or ring signatures like the CN coins (monero, bytecoin, boolberry) are viewed as superior to the masternodes approach from DRK, though DRK also promises to implement a better solution in a next version.

After that, it would be great if some general purpose service like a marketplace only accepted HIRO as a currency, if developed by the same team behind HIRO it would give it trust since HIRO is considered to be carefully developed. Or a good start would be if existing general purpose services dealed with HIRO, though that would be less effective in attracting adapters (both buyers and miners) than something HIRO exclusive

Well, people are starting to see that there MUST be a good PoW X11 coin All those GPU miners have to go somewhere. Since DRK has already grown a lot, it's time for number 2 to make a big leap upwards. It's just common sense really. You don't buy a coin that's already grown a lot , you buy one that has great potential.

Hi, glad to see you back on track again. We missed you.
First as i said earlier, big disappointment in the coin, so i sold mine. I don t have any.

But i have an idea for a very long time that i cannot be able to code. I m fairly new to crypto.
It has to do with being ASIC proof. If you want to play that card, it would be great as bitcoin won t do that, it s too heavy to do so as the discussion about changing algo of litecoin has shown us.

The idea is to be able to switch the algo of the coin in a simple way. A hard fork is a big brutal. Instead, we can use myriad way of mining and adding it the feature to control the % of each algo. So we will be able to change algo ( 0% -> 100% and the opposit) very smoothly and infinitely. I think it is doable, i think it will be total ASIC proof obviously, and it will be the killer app you need. Hiro is still a young coin and could afford this change (in my opinion).

Let me know what you think of it and if you think it is doable for HIRO or for a new coin.

i bought over 500 XCoin here -> https://www.europex.eu/#!coin/btc/x

Thinking it was XC (X11 Coin)

Now i learned the HARD way that i lost 0.54 BTC !!! Sad

Withdrew it and now "it's gone" destroyed i believe

I withdrew XCoin to my X11 address   XWB4AHRwgQnhGToasRbqgfUXGHrw8bBXZR           (if someone rich is willing to donate feel free Cheesy)  (i normally never bribe!)

At least someone on europex is happy that i bought his expensive XCoin then

PS: I never bribe, just feeling bad at the moment and it is the thruth i made this mistake! Sad  CRY

The transaction id from XCoin =>  ded4a451e575a5d15f2bdd634c64d9c494e3a60f23d0b13c57ae5d3ea4ed88f6

Look my post history and see i'm active on several coins, now i dived into X11 Coin and didn't notice XCoin is another coin.

Let people know... plz plz plz
Let this be a warning for others not to get mistaken or confused

I won't go in XC11 now since i will stop trading for a while..  Destroyed 0.54 BTC in total just because the name is almost the same Sad

I am actually shocked that it would let you put in an invalid addy like that. Usually wallets/sites will spit out an error if you try to withdraw the money to a wallet that is the wrong coin.

I would contact support and ask em if they could refund. The coins are not "gone" per say if it was not a valid addy.

At least thats how I think it works. Many times I have put in wrong coin addies in only to get an error.

You should open a ticket in the exchange.
