Question on reddit:  https://www.reddit.com/r/Clamcoin/comments/70g5qt/full_node_question/

"I was planning on running a full, dedicated node for clam coin. Could someone tell me if there are any benefits associated with it? And I currently have the following specs. Will these be enough?
4 CORES
16 GB RAM
500 GB HDD STORAGE"

If that's the specs for a machine 100% dedicated to CLAM (rather than "can I run this in the background?") then it's way overspec'd.

I've run CLAM on a little ARM64 board with a 16GB MicroSD card and 2GB of RAM. Aside from the initial sync, it uses very little CPU.

from my recent past:
download the latest version of the wallet,
download the bootstrap file and throw it in the folder of the wallet,
download the latest node which is on the forum and throw them in a folder wallet.
To launch the wallet and loading a purse will happen quickly.
Or do nothing from what is written, then sync will be a very long time

Sound advice.

One more gem ... returning to CLAMs? Syncing seems to stall? Try the above with an empty wallet.

I've recently synced from 0 in just over a couple of hours, twice now, using exactly the steps described above. In between, I had several failures to complete, my client usually stalling with 33/34 weeks left.

I beat this level by moving my bulging wallet.dat to one side and syncing first with an empty wallet, before switching it back out for the non-empty wallet.

As with many PoS coins, when syncing from 0 the client seems to have a bad habit of attempting to stake before it is fully synced. It's something of a latent issue that only afflicts the affluent.

If the staking attempt is successful it creates a local fork, which is where (and why) the client stalls. I believe that the phenomenon is directly related to stake weight, sometimes it can be just too much for the client to resist.

Cheers

Graham

Updated Clam Client

To speed things up downloaded the CLAM blockchain - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=623147.7740

Checked btc address at Just-Dice > yes CLAMS waiting

Exported private key from Blockchain.info in WIF format

Put importprivkey xxxxxx into CLAM client console > enter > looks ok, blue icon with cross

No CLAMS

Recheck Clam address at just dice, clams still not dug

If I try Just Dice instead is it ok to use the auto allocated account or would it be advisable to set up a user/pass account?

You should set up a user name and password just to be safe.

I highly recommend scanning your .dat with FreeBitcoins after digging fee free at Just-dice... this will insure that you've got all those hidden "change" wallets as well.

https://freebitcoins.com/clamchecker/dig_wallet/  (this feature is now working again!)

Spoke to soon.

Shit is now broke again... will update asap!  Cry

Our CLAM wallet digger is now working again <3
pls can you put in a place a method whereby we can store clams on the site then send to my wallet instead of sending in bits

Yes, user balances are coming after out Bitcoin Cash wallet digger and one fix on the logic of checking addresses for both coins properly.

This will stop the CLAM SPAM.

My wallet is at "2 years and 8 weeks behind" from like 10 hours ago. Is that normal?

If the wallet seems to be stalled, try exiting then restarting. The client won't track more than 750 orphans - blocks that don't directly extend your local blockchain - which may happen if blocks arrive out of order. (This seems to be the norm for CLAM, for some reason.) Restarting the client clears those orphans from memory.

Syncing has been a long-time problem with the client, and as the blockchain grows it's only going to get worse.

It will depend on your machine to some extent but I started a bootstrap re-sync 14 hours ago and I'm currently 1 year 17 weeks behind if that helps..

Which client are you using? I'm using 1.4.17.

Same version here
