MRO could be a better coin with better features then Darkcoin but if there is no hype where will the coin be? you need both innovation and Hype to make it big Darkcoin came along at the right time

Question is, who is the developer of MRO?  Is s/he working on a GUI wallet?  Does s/he have future plans for new innovations and is s/he capable of implementing them?  Evan has proven himself quite capable so far.  The excitement I get from Darkcoin comes from Evan's ideas (and the community's) and his ability to make these things happen.  He's also devoted 100% of his time for the next two years to this coin, which is a huge commitment.  (well, half of that's run out now)  I'm certain he won't disappear after that, but I'm also certain we won't need 100% of his time anymore either.

I don't think it's hype that has finally brought the attention of the community at large to Darkcoin, but the incredible work and devotion that Evan has given this super innovative coin.  It's only hype if it's not real.  This is real.

Can someone saw why this is better investment than MRO ? I hear that they are both similar but in separate ways

the hype on darkcoin is what a coin needs more then anything else and this has that IT FACTOR
yes there other things that make this coin great but with out the hype factor the coin would be nothing

If you talk about Darkcoin you're wrong. It's not just a hype but a well-deserved popularity due to a significant factor : the innovation.

Has anyone had any success running a masternode from a wallet on a local machine? No matter what I try, my node goes to status 0 after an hour or so.

It seems like this started happening on the later versions, it was definitely working with cold wallets on earlier versions. I dont think there is anything wrong with the setup process. I think we have to wait for a statement on the matter from the devs, I am sure we will hear from eduffield soon.

If you talk about Darkcoin you're wrong. It's not just a hype but a well-deserved popularity due to a significant factor : the innovation.

Not to mention monero is a Clone of bytecoin. No innovation, nothing new, just copied Bytecoin...There are also 3 other Bytecoin clone/forks out along with monero... I don't see anything special in it.

Thing with Monero is, and I've bought some just in case it blows up (as a short-term hedge), is that it was too violent in stealing Bytecoin's work. Kind of like "oh, you premined 80%, so we'll take your work and get rid of you bytecoin people". This is scam mentality. But MRO people need Bytecoin development*. This might backfire through stagnation.

Also MRO doesn't hold any "high ground" vs other Bytecoin clones. What will they say? Hi, we are the first clones of Bytecoin? Cheesy

* Gmaxwell also commented on something to that effect a few hours ago: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.6830290

Bytecoin was forked into a coin that the community could participate in from day one.
Alas, none of the bugs or short comings were fixed in doing that— and it doesn't appear that any of the people involved in it have the background for the low level work. So you might have just written out the only active developers of the software, may not bode well for continued development.

Do you guys think a smartphone wallet with darksend will be technically feasible?
An Android wallet is nearly finished, but I'm not sure about whether it incorporates Darksend.

I don't think so. Darksend is not open sourced yet and the Android wallet is being made by someone else. As soon as it is open sourced there is no reason for the Android wallet not to incorporate Darksend. The work related to Darksend transactions is made at the masternodes, so the platform of the wallet should be irrelevant.

Interesting. If I understand correctly, Cryptonote has been developed from scratch and is a completely different protocol. I would be interested to see how this is possible. Have you got the source on that?

Ring signatures are going to be implemented in V2. I will begin development immediately after I opensource V1.

From the OP

Improvements over this mixing solution are due to include the following features:

* Master Nodes These nodes handle the mixing through random selection -
I'm implementing I2P into the masternodes. We're going to have our own private network just for DarkSend.

Several people here have pointed out that the master nodes network is ripe for other distributed services that can create more fees for the node owners.

Ring Signatues, I2P, and Masternodes will make Darkcoin the ultimate coin.
