Okay this is a little bit of analysis. Pros and cons of forks, and each algorithm.

X11
Advantages.
1. It is easy to set up for a miner.
2. ASICs are at least a year away.
3. It is GPU friendly
4. The inefficiencies of the algorithm actually bring advantages in terms of power savings.

Disadvantages.
1. Botnets are a risk. Darkwave should be implemented with it to prevent both botnets and multipools.
2. We have to rewrite everything
3. The fake hash vulnerability posted above.

Neutral
1.. ASICs will come if it becomes popular. This is not a bad thing later in the coins lifecycle.

Scrypt

1. It's easy to mine.
2. We don't need to do anything

Disadvantage
1. ASICs, and more specifically ASIC farms by the manufacturers early in the coins lifecycle. This can reduce our community size and also present problems for the network early in our life cycle.

Scrypt-N/Scrypt Jane
Advantage
1. ASIC resistant for now.

Disadvantage
1. It is hard to setup miners and we are looking to broaden our community.

Neutral.
1. Nothing is ASIC proof, ASICs will come if it is popularized, even with adjustments.

There are other options too worth exploring.

Because of our halving schedule ASIC resistance is not needed forever. Our halving schedule is aggressive enough were it is not a permanent problem. There are also other alternatives as well, which are not being discussed. Such as possibly adding another layer, like Gridcoin.

Hopefully this is helpful.

Thanks for comparison, X11 seems the better of them in long term  Smiley

In regards to what? I'm not on the dev team, but I'm pretty sure they're working on getting press releases out on the first winner as well as internally discussing and testing out the idea of switching the ECM2 algo to x11. Besides that I'm sure our own forum is being worked on little by little as well.

besides those things, I think we just keep doing what we have been doing. Lets go through with epoch 2 and pick another winner and go through that donation phase. Hopefully after that point, more interest will be generated driving the price up some.

We are working on a relationship with experiment.com, the door has been opened and they are responding to emails.

You guys might want to rethink the X11 algo on the account of what this guy can bring to the table.  Might be a few more like him out there.

Wow,interesting!

we need to investigate, possibly modifying internal code x11 to made it 'unique' to emc2,and, proof of what about the guys found here(asic,bug... ?) ?

what the hell  Huh

Btw,I think it might be good idea to thinking about a B plans

Fake hash vulnerability.  Looks like the stratum pools need a patch.

any word on getting added to the iama reddit calender? only one other person tomorrow!

Hello, the AMA will be on http://www.reddit.com/r/science, /r/IAMA is more for famous or successful people, not the best choice for now. Maybe in the future it will.
We've talked with the mods about it, so it will 90% happen tomorrow at the scheduled hour, 10% being reserved for extraordinary events.  If you want more information I can ask the marketing team to offer more details.

awesome thats even better!

I've been watching this coin for a while and mining a little here and there, but if you guys change to x11, I'm all in.  I'm a huge fan of x11 and would love to see more of it.  I know its supposedly not optimized, but that's perfectly fine by me.  I love seeing my GPU temps in the 60's and not having to worry about multipools or asics.  I know its just tentative right now, but I really think it would be a step in the right direction.  Hope you follow through with it.

Edit:

Lol, sure.  Soon as I post.  Wtf is up with that hiro pool?  I've been mining drk since release and never seen anything like that.  Has someone found an exploit or something??

Guys just copy paste the N scrypt from vertcoin even their schedule. They are 100% focus on avoiding asics, yes is less ecological and requires some tweaking but it should be a once in a lifetime fork. Then we can focus our minds and resources into science.

Vertcoin is just an adapted scrypt algo, really not 'ASIC resistant', the multiple hash of X11 or Quark algo would take much more effort to build an ASIC against ...

Chaining NIST approved algos is in no way asic resistance, theres not a single one which is memory hard - its just cheap to put that on a chip...
If you want to know the reason why x11 mining takes less power, its simple - the miner is totally unoptimized.

There is also a big disadvantage with that, cpu mining is nearly as fast as gpu mining...that means, its ideal for beeing mined on botnets - thats something you really dont want.

Then fork it and change it to X12, X13... lots of room to add complexity since it's using so little resources now.   See how that multi-million dollars investment that the ASIC company made in X11 ASIC development will do next time...

Hey guys...

Now that the payment to our first winner will be made in a few short hours I feel its time to start asking our wonderful community to start submitting nominees for this the 2nd epoch we are on now.

Here is my first nominee

http://www.planetary.org/

I'm looking forward to what you guys can come up with and remember with every mined block we are funding science.

How cool is that?
