Jan, I agree with SlientBit that first of all you need a reliable and outstanding dev to get EnergyCoin back on track. I know the perfect person for that and will ask him if he is willing to help out. Will let you know by PM if he is willing to jump in. It would mean getting the development of ENRG from zero to maximum overdrive :-) A fresh start would be outstanding! Cheers to that.
Thx SlientBit  and Digithusiast for you kind words.
All help is welcome of course and I consider my options to comming days.
A developer I can meet personally I prefer and take my time to make the right choices.
The meeting today would have been moved to April 8 and that is no problem.
I have some good help of community members for doing forking myself but it is a precarious process that must be done very carefully.
I still really belive we can be the green cryptocurrency of the future and I don't give up!

I'm with you, even if I have very little time and no programing skills.

I'm looking to take a programing course if possible, I'm still waiting an answer from my company to see if everything is terminated and if I can move on on training.

Ok, I double post

I have bootstraped blockchain sent by Jan, installed it on my Mac to have speed  Grin

Trying to synch, it moves a little bit, but is very slow

Installed and launched Wireshark and seen bunch of this

Internet Protocol Version 4, Src: 213.46.197.237 (213.46.197.237), Dst: 192.168.0.34 (192.168.0.34)
Transmission Control Protocol, Src Port: 22706 (22706), Dst Port: 52813 (52813), Seq: 378568, Ack: 23167, Len: 0

So I send and receive some SYN from this IP, and receive a lot of Ack(nowledgment)

For me look like a DOS attack, I can be wrong.
It's coming from NL, maybe Jan's wallet have bugged or have been corrupted?

This attack if it is one (and nto a simple bug) could also have left an attacker room to forge is chain with little number of coins

I need to go to sleep, big day tomorow but if you could give a look at this, it would be nice  Wink

I'm not sure

I think it.s possible that a DDOS cause a synch issue and as we use slow raspberry, have little number of nodes, and have fast block generation, the pi is not fast enough to agree on the biggest proof chain. (But I don't clearly understand how is the most difficult chain weighted in POS (think it have to do with coinage, but it's not clear for me) so maybe, what I say is crap.

I understand way much better POW than POS.

in any case, our wallet should go for the most "difficult chain" and it seem not to be happening. Is it a bug in the wallet? Or performance issue with pi?

Because even if we were attacked for a double spend, the network should reach agreement, and it's not the case, so I think we have a bug.

We have so little nodes running that it should be easy to ddos them and cause a synch issue.

If a DDOS is the root cause, forging a new chain won't solve our issue.

But I agree that Jan have enough trust and coins to forge a private chain, I just don't know how to do this, and if this will solve the issue.

If it can help, I have light speed connection and a firewall with some basic DDOS protection somewhere in my basement.

Also, I find strange that I have plugged again my hold PI, and he don't synch anymore, he is stuck 20 days in the past, don't download blocks, and still see last block of the chain as the one where you are stuck 1051199

OK, let's stop using the coin for now.

We should consider hardforking the coin from a  bootstrap of the blockchain before the shit happens.
So keep your wallets and stop moving coins in case we where attacked and decide to go back to last known good block.
I have no dev skills and it's a pity.

For what I can see now, I see two issues.

We don't have enough nodes running, and we have surely not enough coins staking. (Or maybe staking in too little number of addresses, have to check this point)

I saw some times ago topic discussing attacks on POS coins to kill them and "protect" bitcoins.
(in bitcointalk, but I don't remember in which topic)
A guy was claiming he can kill some pos alts with a little market share.

And having not much coins staking allow the attack to occurs.

I suspect it's what happened, probably the attack is made easier with little number of nodes that can be DDOSed easily.

So let's investigate, and not move coins anymore until we are sure what to do.

It looks everythink is running smooth now

edit: only the block explorer is not up-to-date: http://explorer.energycoin.pw/chain/EnergyCoin

We should try to understand the issue, and have more running nodes Wink

OK, so EnergyCR should handover the coin to you.

I will try to Google if a new coin use same port number, to see if it's someone's mistake or an attack.

We have too little nodes on our network.

If we don't find a coin, I will try to plug my hardware firewall to monitor what is coming from network but I have little time today and beginning of next week (my company is firing me right now  Grin)

If someone can listen network flow with wireshark, maybe we can learn something.

EnergyCR bas given some news?

We need to react fast or we will be dropped from bittrex...

And I suspect those holding coins there will risk to lose them.

Edit : I confirm issue is with network, not blocks, because I plugged again my first raspberry, and he don't synch and is 20 days late without synch

Also, we would need checkpoints, because during this kind of attack on network, I think it's easier to attack the blockchain itself.

I also have issue, but it can be hardware on my side, i have issues since I started mi pi2

It's not the first time I'm stuck with it and have to reboot.

But this time, I have file system errors, maybe my old SD card is just dying.

Someone else can confirm the issue or have a synched wallet ?

Jan, are you sure your SD card isn't simply full ?

Online with the PI yet?

Waiting on feedback for the investment plan and April 3 I have an important meeting for application of EnergyCoin and a sandbox project. Maybe last change to buy some cheap ENRG.

Yes finally

I copy pasted old .energycoin folder to my new PI, kept old wallet 1.1.2 and it's now up and running

But it's hardcore to download from scratch the whole blockchain on the PI  Shocked

Good luck for your meeting, we are with you  Wink

I just had a look and, yeah, Im at 4M block size on my file system. I do take a hit on small log files but so far what Im seeing indicates that most of my files are large enough to justify keeping my file system the way that it is.

I think I will watch it and see if I start accumulating small files to the point where reclaiming the wasted space is a good idea.

I think the blockchain use a file per block, but maybe I'm wrong.

Does someone could link me instructions or tell me what to do to install the wallet properly?

I downloaded the windows client, but it does not seem to be syncing at all...there are 0 connections to the network Huh Huh

A massive wave from Energy project is coming, i expect a lot from this concept, everything is include.
Is this project still under development?
I remember it was years ago when Energycoin was airdropped.
I mush still have some coins in my wallet.

Just to reply I was there also in 2014, this is the same blockchain but its been developed more since then.    You should always run the proof of stake wallets actively, its not like bitcoin and you receive a stake or mining revenue from being an active part of the ENRG network.   That is how is supposed to be used, alot of people are kind of missing out on an exchange holding.  POS requires active users.
I dont think the old wallet works, it will need a new one but make copies to try updating your old 2014 Energycoin and it'll pass on through to the 2017 ENRG wallet which is what I did a while back.   Let us know on the new thread
