Decentralized Web Summit 2018The co-founders of Alexandria.io and the Open Index Protocol will be at the
Decentralized Web Summit 2018 with Chris Chrysostom (Medici Ventures) and Davi Ortega (Caltech) who are both using OIP and FLO in their applications.
Talk: The Open Index Protocol and its ecosystemWednesday, August 1st 2:00pm - 3:00pm PST
Learn about the concept of public spaces on the internet by seeing how the Open Index Protocol works at the protocol layer.
Then we'll introduce you to some of the most interesting apps built on top of the OIP, including Alexandria.io, a fully decentralized media platform for artists that helps them get paid directly for their work.
Partners from Caltech and Medici Ventures will demonstrate use cases in land rights management in South America and scientific data in Southern California. You'll see how the Open Index Protocol works from the bottom up.
Workshop: Build a dApp with Open Index ProtocolThursday, August 2nd 11:00am - 12:30pm PST
A ‘public space’ is missing on the web today. We’ll share the lessons we’ve learned building a public, permissionless & persistent Open Index for Decentralized Web 3.0. We’ll discuss current implementations (Caltech, Medici/DeSoto, Alexandria, Alpha Browser, Token.FM, Robo3D, etc) and imagine other new applications.
Open Index Protocol (OIP) is a specification for a worldwide database for decentralized publishing, distribution and payments. OIP is a permissionless and decentralized system with metadata anchored in a blockchain. It uses distributed networking and peer-to-peer technology to operate with no central authority: content indexing, file storage/distribution and transaction management are carried out collectively by the network. The system uses a Salutary Protocol model, which creates financial incentive at both application and protocol layers, and aligns incentives of system participants toward co-opetition.
We will build a new dApp on Open Index Protocol LIVE in the workshop. We’ll teach how to build an application and discuss the additional functionality the system can support. We will leave plenty of time for conversation between the audience and the developers from Medici/DeSoto, Caltech and Alexandria and may break out into smaller groups for discussion depending who is at the workshop and what will best support these discussions.
