I installed the qt client on 2 machines on friday, it normal for the blockchain to only be halfway done downloading, 3-4days later? lol

a couple of posts back is the link to teh blockchain up to less than a week ago. I highly recommend starting with it or you'll be syncing forever.

I give up now. Even after downloading the whole blockchain (the last 3 weeks were missing) I takes forever to get going.

How the hell are new players supposed to get into this?

I have a bunch of huntercoin but have not downloaded the wallet yet. Your comment forces me to go through that whole process to find out if there is a problem. It will be a few days til I get to it but I'll let you know my experience.

you may want to just download the latest blockchain (managed by domob). syncing can take a while if its been a while.

I haven't checked on HUC in months (though I still own a portion), so it's good to see that development is still ongoing. I like this little coin a lot, and wish it could get a little more love.

So I wanted to let you all know about a project initiated by James/jl777, who is a key (not core) Nxt developer, and a core BTCD developer, called Supernetwork (superNET). It's too complicated for me to describe in detail, but this is from the OP:

"This is the network that will be created by joining all the participating coins into a single unified network. Each coin will of course continue to operate normally, but there will be an option to use any of the services that are available in the Supernetwork. Each coin that joins the network makes it bigger and also adds its unique tech that is then crossmarketed to all the other nodes."

Please read more here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ann-supernet-nxt-asset-12071612744977229797-supernet-kmd-assetchain-in-summer-762346

I think this offers an opportunity for much greater exposure. Of course, maybe that isn't what you want right now, while you're still solving critical issues. But maybe some attention would help.

From what I read, James is only going to sign up coins that bring something innovative to the crypto world, and Huntercoin certainly satisfies that requirement.

This is not just another exchange listing, but offers a kind of interoperability (from what I understand) among all the coins in the SuperNetwork. Please read more at the link above for the details.

Everything this guy finds goes right to dmobs huntercoin address.  Cool  Everyone should use one guy for this.

that's a screenshot from my client Cheesy
press CTRL+N (will show names under hunters) and do it again (F12 take screenshots and save it on client folder), so we know the name and maybe people will not harass (mmm i wouldn't bet on it)
should add a window to summarize commands :|

It shouldn't take long to download at all if only 3 weeks are missing.  Is that what the client tells you?

back from holiday, i see there is activity on this thread but looking at posts don't know if it's a good thing Smiley

regarding last posts (don't let this thread become a flame one) from what i recall, i think OSYA refers to old problems reported several times in the past and not recognized by devs team at that time (i was reporting them too in the past, so he refers to me in some post because he know i "heard" his reports and experiecend same problems)

anyway facts are that now those problems are recognized by devs team, but since they aren't hardcore gamers (or at least domob isn't) they have difficult to reproduct those problems, and what snailbrain is asking is some help in testing the just released fixes

i think that from OSYA point of view, dev team hasn't listened to his reports in the past and he's disappointed by that and  now he held a grudge against dev team, anyway i think it's not constructive now to talk about the past, just work togheter in the direction we are going now, so help dev team to test new things and give devs every possible detail about bugs, and maybe instruction about how to reproduce the issue.
unlucky, as i said, dev team aren't hardcore gamers and so some annoying bugs affecting daily players aren't easily spotted.
To them i can just say "listen to players bug reports and trust them", but to players i say "report bugs on github" ( https://github.com/chronokings/huntercoin/issues ) that's the place where bugs should be reported, not here, or the problem will not be likely recognized as a bug

about last patch:
now that i'm back, I'll try new RPC functions, just nead a couple of days to sync with new things and remember things Cheesy

@ snailbrain: i think that new RPC command isn't easy to test to anyone, it's a tech thing and only BOT runners and 3rd client developers can't really test it.
This mean, talking about my client, that i have to implement that command and integrate it into my client/interface, so i need first to understand how that work and how/when invoke that, then release the new client version that implement that command and let everyone that has pending problem, to test if that command fix things

(I have to read what has been added in the latest 16 days because i've been "out of world" Cheesy)
not sure the name_clean will fix my reported issue but i'll look at that and implement it into my client

thanks

not sure if domob replied to the github issue/thread, think he did.

before he makes it "automatic" - people need to use name_clean to test

it's not final implementation, it's a test to see if it's working.

If BGB or yourself or someone who knows how to use RPC can try it out and let us know if it fixes the problem, then we can move forward.

As for Osyra - honestly i/we don't have time for being insulted.
The only bug he is talking about is the pending bug - what else is he on about?
He isn't helping at all, in fact putting us down.
We are working on huntercoin in our own time - Domob is coding because he likes it and it's fun/interesting.

Be nice Osyra, and we'll try to help. Otherwise I just won't reply, simple as that.

I have been very busy this week and last - new job - fortunately he is also a huntercoin investor, and I can work on huntercoin at the same time. For now we are in a setting up stage of a new business, so I may not be able to respond as often as i have been for a week or 2.
I'm still working with devs in the mean time.

just a request: i see the blockchain is in tar format, windows users doesn't have a native support for that, isn't better to put a .zip?

That's true, but I think there are enough quasi-standard tools on Windows that support these archives, no?  .zip is similarly "non-standard" on GNU/Linux systems.  Initially the request for a HTTP download option was due to someone downloading via wget, that's why I used .tar there.

(and an help for the checksum verification process for non teach people)

While I agree this is something we need, I don't want to take the time to write the tutorial myself.  The server is meant to only provide the data.  If someone writes a comprehensive installation + chain download + chain verification tutorial, I will link to it from the server page.  (Or even display it there if that's desired and the tutorial is more or less plain HTML.)
