I like the idea but will be on the fence for this as little things like the quotes on the website being from some random taxi driver make me skeptical.

Good choice. As already stated, AliPay is used by the vast majority of China.

What types of card will you accept? Maybe you not know it, but in Asia there are several cards aside from visa/mastercard
The existing product is already accepting VISA/MasterCard. As under the hood, SelfPay is a payment aggregator, we are even able to accept local debit card in each countries where a payment API is available.
In the coming months SelfPay will also accept AliPay (China's leading third-party online payment solution).
Regarding Alipay, it is representing 520 Million Chinese Customers.

Can you use SelfPay to pay for services as well?
Yes, we have plans for that.
We have recently studied the case of Electricite du Laos, where people have to drive long distances and face unending queues just to pay their electricity bill.
Our plan is to create crypto gift cards that can be bought in the nearest convenience store or petrol station, and allow people to pay their bills from the comfort of their own living room.

What about countries where connections are very slow. Will SelfPay still work ?
The SelfPay architecture has been built to be cloud resilient, and therefore work in very poor network conditions.One of our beta testing was done in Laos, where the network conditions are dreadful and SelfPay worked without any issues.
