I just got an email from juergen. He has big plans for development. I just sent a pull request with qt wallet artwork at github so he can create a new wallet. I think this coin will be great.

I tried to build the windows wallet now with Qt 4.8 and it worked as expected.

I am no expert. Just an amateur that thought id help describe what worked for me. But no such host is know sounds like a communication problem between command and wallet... Im not sure. All i can advise is doublecheck conf file, make sure you all the nodes and ports correct.
It definitely works, I just hot it working on a Windows 7 & 8. Did you close the first window and reopen it After putting a .conf file in the appdata/machinecoin folder? I didn't try w/o a .conf file, but the loopback addy (127.0.0.1) should be necessary.
I also tested the pools on linux, 7, & 8, it does work pretty good.
