Tried the nodes that you guys mentioned, but
still getting timeouts.. no luck in getting the wallet up and running 

The weak point of Maxcoin has been lack of development since 2015.

Now new dev team are forming and adding positive things to Maxcoin.

I have downloaded Maxcoin qt v0.9.3.1 for Mac and have not been able to get it to update. No block source available for days now. Obviously, I'm doing something wrong. Debug log is showing a repetition of connection timeouts..
Here's my maxcoin.conf:

I am now the person responsible for Maxcoin's bitcointalk account.

First: please be patient!

A developer is currently working hard to update the Maxcoin code. Unfortunately, we can not update things that have not been updated for two years in one day. We need time.

There will be a first small security update for Maxcoin within a few months. After that, a larger update will take place.

Meanwhile, the call for others is not to be on their hands. Everyone can make a contribution to community by promoting Maxcoin.

7. Promote the coin.

copy and paste it in your txt file and save as i showed you

the quotations will make it a conf file not a txt file

make  a txt file in the roaming file and put in your rpcuser      rpcpassword     and addnodes    then   save as just like i put it here   "maxcoin.conf" hit save      copy and paste with quotations and you got it

Just create the file with notepad or any text editor and paste those lines into the file.

Make sure the file is named maxcoin.conf and not maxcoin.conf.txt like Windows will likely try to name it because you have known file extensions hidden.

I'm trying to use a GUI wallet, not mine the coin... if you download a wallet it should just work. If it doesn't, then please explain to me like I'm 5 how do I add those to the .conf file.

I know how to find my wallet.dat in the roaming/maxcoin file but I don't see any ".conf" file so I don't know how I'm supposed to add nodes. I'm sure I'm not unique, not everyone mines
