Where is the latest wallet? My wallet is nc0.13.99-name-tab-beta1. My coins not showing up.

Your wallet is synced up to past the time you sent the coins?

If you look on a block explorer https://explorer.namecoin.info/ does it say the coins were sent?

All due respect Alexoz but the impression I get is that you bought a bunch of NMC because you missed out on the early BTC days. You want to pump the coin so that you can make big money. Like many people who invest in alt coins.

I agree with biolizard89 that people starting to use NMC right now will get frustrated by how hard it is to use. I'm a software engineer and the few times I attempted to get things working it never resulted in being able to open a .bit website.

Not that I spent a lot of time on it, but it's certainly not straightforward. Even going the easy route of adding an OpenDNS IP to my DNS didn't work.

I invested a lot in NMC a few years ago because I believe in the concept and hope it succeeds. If I get to the point where I have a lot of extra time I would likely start contributing to the code. But I trust that the devs are doing what is best for Namecoin.

I don't own one Namecoin to be clear. I could buy some around 100k if it goes there again...

Most useful thing would be to send developers donations. They work for nothing.Who wants to work for nothing? No fun being broke while nmc traders get rich all the while you get poorer. Place big shiny donate button on all threads as major part of update and development.

People who rely on donations generally starve. Hopefully they own some Namecoin and make money as it goes up.

Almost everybody missed out on early btc. My impression is that Alex picked up on Namecoin being undervalued relative to bitcoin and he wants to 'promote' it. A lot of Russians have a heavy handed approach to marketing. Some of them forget that there are things that do not need to be sold, advertised. Promoting is good for coca cola, nobody would drink it otherwise, but if bitcoin had been marketed it would still be worth 0.0001 usdollar. Likewise Namecoin, market it by improving its quality, not by lipstick.

If biolizard will do some 'ask me anything's' on some forum that has easy access, and on a regular schedule, there are enough developing news items that participation would grow. That would be a useful 'marketing' thing, simply answering questions to help people understand why domains should not be controlled by political interests.

If you can do coding etc then there must be some useful contribution you can make to Namecoin but I don't know what.

Is there a bootstrap for namecoin?

We don't distribute one.  Usually the Bitcoin P2P network is faster than bootstrap.dat; Namecoin is similar.  How many peers do you have?

Will be nice to have you guys on some shows at least once a month! I know some guys like Crypt0, The Bitcoin Meister, Kyle, Alex Sterk...

I understand that marketing is just not a good job, but it's necessary for any crypto/business/project!

There's a chance I'd be willing to be interviewed after we get TLS support rolled out, depending on how my schedule looks then.  (TLS is a good subject to interview me about anyway, since it's a major unique feature of Namecoin and it's why I joined the project back in 2013.)

Ok nice!

Since this thread seems to have exploded in the past week, I'll try to briefly summarize my thoughts on this as a developer.

Namecoin's documentation is certainly somewhat lacking.  This is because none of us specializes in documentation; we simply document things in our spare time when we're not coding.  We'd love help on this; our website accepts pull requests (in fact, there's a link at the bottom of every page to submit a pull request).  If improving documentation (and by "documentation" I mean all of the website) qualifies as "marketing", then by all means help us on this if you like.  Probably best to talk to us on Matrix (or start a GitHub issue in the namecoin.org repo) before you expend too much time.

In the past, the few times that 3rd parties have done "marketing" on our behalf (or said that they're doing so on our behalf), the end result has been more harm than good.  For this reason, I have learned to be extremely cautious when unknown people propose marketing operations for Namecoin.

In practice, the most effective public relations operations we've done have been speaking at conferences.  (ICANN58 went really well, as did QCon London 2017 and DWS 2016.  GETD#4 also went really well, although we didn't give an officially scheduled talk there.)

I think the primary barrier to wider adoption at the moment is simply that Namecoin is difficult to install and difficult to use securely.  Hugo and I have been working on improving that situation.  Once that situation is resolved, public awareness certainly becomes more relevant, as do various other issues that we face (privacy comes to mind here, and scalability will matter at some point too).

If anyone wants to help us with this but isn't a coder, taking some of the documentation work off of our hands would probably be a great way to help.  Is there some information that should be clearly documented on the website but isn't?  Create a GitHub issue for it or submit a pull request.  Several of us are pretty easy to reach via Matrix (or IRC for those who prefer it -- our IRC is bridged to Matrix), and we're happy to facilitate stuff.

What I *don't* think we need is, say, a giant advertising campaign.  I won't rule it out forever, but we're not at the point where that's going to be beneficial -- all it will accomplish is cause lots of technically unsophisticated people to try Namecoin, realize that it's too hard to use right now, and then not want to try it again in the future when the UX is more polished (and many of those people will sap our time on Matrix answering questions before they decide to call it quits).

Anyway, that's my take as a Namecoin developer.  I look forward to hearing your ideas on Matrix.  Smiley

Is there Trezor for Namecoin? A friend is asking me... I really have to read through the docs Wink

Not at the moment, but this situation might improve in the foreseeable future.

You do realize we have a Matrix channel, right?  Why would a decentralized free software project want to use Slack?

I created a Slack group if anyone is interested in joining and making discussion: namecoin-group.slack.com

[email protected] send me an invite!

Guys IRC is not good. Slack keeps record of the conversations...

I haven't had much time to look cuz I'm already busy with Decred. But I've some free time and will be glad to help growing the namecoin community. Nobody is expecting Namecoin to rally...

Some trader views on Namecoin

"We cannot compare namecoin with decred. Decred is magnitudes better in its voting system and has a really active developing team as opposed to Namecoin. I can see Namecoin rally in about 2-3 months, but nothing crazy like Decred, unless I am missing something in this puzzle..."

You are missing something. lol

Namecoin is the highest quality altcoin, built on a solid longterm foundation, clean as a whistle. It will have people building on it a thousand years from now, even if it is worth a penny.

Decred has some sort of novel ideas, but nothing groundbreaking. It only stands out for the massive payoff it is producing for a few people, before it disappears, probably within a year or two.

A lot of new people come to something and they look at a few superficial things and are sure they know what's under the hood.

Coins you should actually look under the hood and see what they are about. Namecoin has an honest purpose. Some people will make money with it, some will lose money, but after the money is spent something important remains. Namecoin is probably the best 'silver' to bitcoin's 'gold', if you research it a bit.
