I registered an amazing 3 letter .bit domain last month. I was really surprised it was available, someone must have slipped up and let it expire!

I'm going to be keeping it forever since they are cheap to renew and possibly using it for a zeronet site.

Cool that good names are still out there available ... which one was it if you don't mind me asking?

This is not even floating price range for namecoin. It should be .003-.005 range for now and then upwards to .01 at least. For project to raise funds it should be self funding in better way and developers should have bigger mining pool interest. That way no more problems with funding issue.

The low volume low price opportunity to buy at the bottom should be closed off by market makers. This is not manipulation it is basic common sense.

ICANN has invited a Namecoin developer to speak at the ICANN58 meeting on March 11-16 2017 in Copenhagen and Mr Jeremy Rand will attend.[ICANN panel report]favorably mentioned namecoin.

More discourse here: https://github.com/namecoin/namecoin.org/commit/00a1e211e647d482fb31aecfd15f6740734ee15d

Maybe some chit chat about transport layer security?

That are great news. I don't think anything like a "recognition" of .bit will happen, but it shows the Namecoin system is not only a dream of some nerds. And maybe it will lead at least to ".bit" domains being permanently rejected as new "official ICANN" TLDs. (I think that interview is also the reason for the recent price spike, if I look at CMC.)

But I continue to think that a more user-friendly implementation of OpenNIC is the way to go. A browser plugin would surely be a good start, although I don't know if its technically possible to do it in a decentralized way (Peername seems to use a centralized web service). Also, OpenNIC could provide a small and user friendly tool that connects to the alternative DNS servers, Linux distributions even could offer it as a standard way to connect to DNS.

Why is this coin so dead?
Is it even actively developed?
Who is part of development team?

Where do you see the coin to be dead?  If you look at our Github (https://github.com/namecoin/namecoin-core/tree/dev), you'll see that we are regularly updating the code - about once per week usually.  We are usually on par with the bleeding-edge Bitcoin Core, integrated with Namecoin's functionality.

Apart from the core client, we've also other projects ongoing that build on top of it to further extend the Namecoin ecosystem.

I wonder how it can go up?  What would have to happen?

The problem of Namecoin is that it's barely used - because almost nobody will be able to connect to .bit domains. The centralized DNS system is too strong, for now. Only if Namecoin develops into a real alternative to the ICANN-controlled system it can be a success.

I recommend everyone who wants Namecoin to succeed to support and use the OpenNic project (https://www.opennicproject.org/) and other services like ZeroNet (https://zeronet.io/). Both, with different strategies, realize a "more decentralized Internet" and have integrated Namecoin's .bit domains.

Must be a false positive because a market without trading volume and buy support isnt going anywhere. No market = no future= no discussion.Nobody gives a shit about .bit domain names or any other geek babble.Money talks in the end and open source free innovation can be copied, cloned, recycled all day long so all anyone mining this crap cares about is cashing out with a profit.Have you seen the difficulty? There are multiple shitcoins out there offering better returns in return for hashpower.Namecoin is dead since it started and shouldnt even be on an exchange due to its inability to even provide a decent hedge against bitcoin.Dump it or cry when it flames out and you are left holding the bag.

It can go much lower. It dipped down to 16 cents not so long back so if you had went long with leverage you would have got taken out easily.

It says it's worth 22 cents US and there is a 3.2 million dollar market cap.  There are 14,736,400 NMC out there.
Seems like it has a long way to fall.  I wonder how it can go up?  What would have to happen?
