If the Avalon device is modular....that would make it a killer product in the ASIC market.

Your customers profit is your profit as well. Sell each extra board at $200 and there is a strong incentive to continuously sell/buy more parts. Creating mini-rigs one board at a time.

BFL?

Well, one unit per housing...sucks. You can't build out your kits without forking over the whole amount.

I dunno, but if this is Avalons strategy, then it is a killer strategy.

Does this come with a port to pump liquid nitrogen inside the case to keep it from melting?

Huh? They've been quoting 400 watts. Who has trouble cooling a 4U case pulling 400 watts?

What is the temperature of the room that this would need to be in?  If you had 50 of them in a room would they be able to cool themselves with just the fans?  You would need at least 10 Tons of cooling and exhaust for the heat.

So 20KW for the units and 20KW for the AC and exhaust.  Not too bad for 3TH+

Huh

Since you have time to answer all the really nice questions above;
Maybe you have also the time to answer this?
-How many units have you ship so far
-and how much is the expected daily capacity before the CNY?

Or is it a trade secret?
Thanks for your time.

around 12 a day currently, so total about 40, however I am seriously unsure how many actually made it outside of the country, I'll be giving Jeffs tracking number soon as I get it, during business hours I call the people handling the shipping every 2 hours or so for updates.

We are seriously bottle necked by Customs at the moment ( due to upcoming CNY as well ) and are looking for more routes, it isn't really a trade secret as this is honestly beyond our control at this point. God, I hate sounding like BFL.
Thank you for this clear and quick response!
Good luck with your customs!

I would hope you guys aren't running into cooling issues, when you have a 4U chassis for 66GH/s.  Smiley

Intel. I own one of those servers. Ha.

Time for funny story on cooling, BFL said something like we'd run into similiar problems like them knowing our design is completely different, e.g. rolled vs pipeline, we chuckled; since we are ahead, I'll say the same, I think BFL is going to run into some problems we ran into as well.

Anyways, cooling was the exact opposite, our units cool so well, we removed two fans. ZING.

Case is not empty, treasure is real, keep guessing.

it has something to do with this

I am going to guess that you made the internal boards upgradeable. (Individual modules. Hence the four blocks? Or it could be interpreted as a PLUS symbol?)

Your site also implies that the device is overclockable.

-----------------

My other guess is that your design may include the option to be installed inside a special case.

Perhaps you guys designed a custom mounting system? This is also heavily implied in your launch subdomain.

Warm, or cold?

Everyone keeps asking where the picture came from... has no one seen this part of Avalon's website yet??
http://launch.avalon-asics.com/

OK, not as pretty as a boxy black render with a shiny Butterfly-Labs logo on it  Grin

If those are 120mm fans, that would make it a bit over 360mm wide, or 14 inches and change.

Should fit nicely in 3u of rack space with some brackets/rails, or maybe 4u.

BitSyncom has already said it's a 4U case, so those are likely 120mm fans and the chassis is narrower than a standard rack case.

Took 16 pages to notice! Man, I thought trolls were better and would notice right away!

You are on the right track, treasure is ahead.

p.s. not calling you a troll or anything.

Ha, I try my best not to troll..though I know I slip up from time to time, so no worries there Tongue

And I don't care if it is empty or filled with diamonds. It's just for show to try and appease people...BFL did the same thing (though not as well)...and I get that. We're all going to get our fill of pics and specs once they start arriving on people's doorsteps.

Wanted to ask - way back when development started, you mentioned the units having some sort of small LCD screen to monitor at a glance your mining status and temperatures. Is that still present or was it dropped during development?

Also, I remember you or Zhang saying that you intend to make the units upgrade-able or something (you can insert more ASIC boards in, to boost your hashing power). Is that still the case?

@ Bitsyncom/NgZhang

Could you comment on either of these two questions? Did it make it to the final product?
