Why is that important? What does it matter to you?

If they supply a device which you are willing to pay for, it doesn't matter if it is made with hand soldered discrete transistors on a perf board.
If you buy a BMW and you will deliver a Dacia say the same?

I'll put money on MORE problems than last time.... The drama around here will never stop.

Hopefully they got the simulation correct this time (again - selling something with specs based on a simulation - you think they would have learned from doing that last time how pissed off some people will be if they guessed wrong again)
Well, they learned not to give out power specs  Wink

Pretty valid statement: people have been willing to pay at least hundreds of thousand of dollars (or likely millions of dollars) for something before it even existed and who knows what will be required to be changed this time to get it to work (will they have major problems like last time?)

This all seems a bit deja vu, since the bulk of BFL critics said the current shipping single was not possible.  I am curious to see if history repeats.
Yes many people said the specs they posted were not possible.

Oddly enough that was true - since they only had a simulation when they started selling BFL Singles last year
(that no one got before the end of February)

The power specs were wrong by a fact of 4 - which is a VERY big number to be wrong by.

The hash specs were an ~26% overstatement. Not a big deal - but certainly not very accurate for a company claiming something based on a simulation that turned out to be wrong.

They also said 4-6 weeks (and continued to say that) even though they knew that wasn't true.

Now, if they are again wrong about power with their ASIC simulation, then something they have stated will not work.
They have stated that it will mine from a powered USB port in your computer without the need for a power adapter to power the device directly - the power adapter is only needed for (yeah this part is so stupid IMO) the coffee warmer Tongue

Hopefully they got the simulation correct this time (again - selling something with specs based on a simulation - you think they would have learned from doing that last time how pissed off some people will be if they guessed wrong again)

The important thing is to discover if the ASIC announced by BFL is a hardcopy, leaving childhood fights ...

Simple - if you have a question that you want only BFL to answer (or not answer as the case may be...), send them an email.
By posting on a public forum, you are implicitly inviting any and all users to coment - it is a forum, after all.

Epoch,
Keep begging for tips and let people talk about other stuff
When you want people to respect you and your words, you must have dignity...which we can find in your signature... Smiley)

fred0 and Epoch, do you work at BFL?
The post was for BFL...
Kind Regards
I would like to echo Epoch's sentiment. You posted the same message twice. As a forum reader, I want to know why this matter is important.  Like I said in my comment, it was not sarcastic.  What would be the performance difference between a hardcopy implementation from a fpga and a true asic?  I am not an electrical engineer, and this is not in my domain of my working knowledge.

Assuming that this product is an altera hardcopy, why are the performance numbers that BFL has specified not realistic?

This all seems a bit deja vu, since the bulk of BFL critics said the current shipping single was not possible.  I am curious to see if history repeats.

Just trying to save you some time. You appear new here, so perhaps you haven't been keeping up with the numerous BFL threads since the end of last year. Some of us, however, have.

Your type of question has been asked many times before of BFL about their current gen products. Care to guess what their response was every time? Do you understand that it is to BFL's advantage not to publicize this type of information? If you do not, then please feel free to ask your question for a third time here.

I mean no disrespect, but if you don't want others to get involved in your publicly posted questions, PM your question directly to BFL.

Do not post messages that mean you're new to the forum, maybe you bring less time than many who are not even registered ... If BFL will sell like a hatdcopy ASIC will not meet the specifications promised even close.

I've also been watching the BFL threads since late last year and I'm a happy customer with two BFL mini-rigs.

Of course there's no harm in asking, but I also believe the odds that they'll respond at all to this sort of question are near zero and the odds that they'll respond with any information that satisfies the nature of your question are exactly zero.

They *can* reply, yes. But they won't. There is no good reason for them to do so.
