Did it run out of memory?

Probably.  I'll get a memory-detuned version up, but for now, try running with fewer threads.

Actually, instead of that, I'm going to spend the time tonight letting it be specified on the command line - that's probably a better way to let people customize to their own boxes.

Noted in the TODO.

Btw, @miki - I hope you enjoy this one. :-)

To remove the 10% dev fee on b8 version just edit the binary using vi editor :

vi xptminer-sse4-b8

:,$s/RUhMA8bvsr48aC3WVj3aGf5p1zytPSz59o/Your_Address/
(ENTER)
:wq

Are you sure this works? Ypool still reports a 10% fee for workers.

Yes, the fee goes to Your_Address...

Are you sure, because the address I used as a replacement wasn't showing up on ypool's dev fees page (the one that shows the balance of dev fee accounts)

I tried on a couple other boxen and they do the same thing. I rolled this test machine back to b8.

This forces things a little.  I've released the mostly-full-speed version of mine as a binary only for now because of the pool fairness issue.  I'll release source as soon as we get that worked out:

http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dga/crypto/ric/

It's labeled b9.  Windows coming tonight.

9% dev fee today.  I'll cut it to 5% in two days and to 3% in four days. Smiley

Do you have a checksum for that build? I tried it and it crashes out after a couple rounds, noticed it's 1/3 the size of the old one as well...

I think I uploaded one that got corrupted the first time - I re-uploaded, try now.

a9e8c6df1aa3b27a60dbd8c5538fea79  xptminer-sse4-b9

Have to run - will check on this in an hour or so.  But it seems to be happy.  Or did you mean the windows exe?  I've now re-uploaded that one too but can't test it:

d1b1ca3bb23d3f3dee8046daa3386afd  xptminer-sse4-b9.exe

(I think my filesystem filled up while uploading)

Those checksums match what I have. The Windows version seems to be fine, but the linux one:
Code:
Launching miner...
Using 10 CPU threads
Using 10 threads

Fee Percentage:  10.00%. To set, use "-d" flag e.g. "-d 2.5" is 2.5% donation

Connected to server using x.pushthrough(xpt) protocol
xpt: Logged in with iocon.RCM2
New block data - height: 21388 tx count: 5
Generating table of small primes for Riecoin...
[00:00:00] Start mining

I am a note at this mining, only been doing it since January.

I have no problem paying the 10% fee. From my point of view I was only getting 4 sometimes 6 a day depending on the pool clock. I have already received 12 today using dga's miner. Sure I could have had 13.2 but without his miner I could have had 4 or 6.

It's a win/win situation for me. I get about double the coins a day.

DGA and everyone else doing these miners I say "Thanks".

You should see the greif people are giving Christian about his cudaminer for heavy coin. It is ridiculous. These people could easily keep quite and mine away and leave it up to us to come up with our own software.

I am just saying "Don't bite the hand that feeds you."

Sorry for the rant.
To be fair, Christian set a dangerous precedent with Maxcoin. He kinda did it to himself.

Happy mining - now let's *really* find some primes.

("Mostly" full speed - I'm not crippling it deliberately, it's just not sieving up to 1b so that it will run on more machines.  It's sieving up to 500m.  I'll work on getting that parameter selectable from the command line soon.)

To remove the 10% dev fee on b8 version just edit the binary using vi editor :

vi xptminer-sse4-b8

@miki, did you really want to start an arms race?  I have no desire to make it hard for people who really object to the dev fee to remove it, so I left it simple as you noticed - with help - but you should consider the long-term effects of your actions with respect to the incentives for miners and developers and creating a thriving community for the coin.

well 10% looked a bit extreme guys...dont you think?

when clintar had 2% fee i mined for 10 days even after removing his fee

but dont you think that 10% is too much? and we already know that you guys mine with optimized miners before us...

I dont say if it is bad or not to have a fee. or mine with optimized miners. after all those that have the skills must gain. I am saying that if fees are extreme people dont like that and will find their way to not pay it... it needs an equilibrium.

I think 10% is way too much. I'd rather have a sensible minimum set, and allow users to set it higher if they want.

At 10% (and this before pool fees), it's hardly surprising that people will try to circumvent it.

Wow, RIC mining would have paid off two of my research servers trading  0.002 BTC/RIC. I do not pay attention to the market but perhaps it is time to.

gatra: Any estimate on when your pool server code will be ready for testing? Also, for your GPU implementation, will you be targeting AMD or Nvidia GPUs?
