I read a seemingly unrelated article posted to Reddit, seemed like it was better not to have anything on that exchange anymore. Withdrawals for SMC were working at that time. (Oct 2015)

No wonder cryptsy wouldn't fix SMC specs after repeated attempts of contact. They had other issues that were far more important.

ultimately something like OpenBazzar is a must.
the days of large lumps of SMC on deposit with a 3rd party are limited.
so be careful with your risk. SMC is a low coin count scheme.
i'm writing off 50k to BigVern but i would advise to risk much less than that amount in future dealings.
SMC is very elegant in design and in algo of choice (mind you x11 is still antiASIC), pay mind to that.
So custodial keys are the keys to success, be prudent.

got none
but the reality is the legacy systems will flip to some sort of inter banking crypto exchange, the option is if the 'consumer' depositors withdraw and switch to less centralized platforms ... like say SMC. But the window of opportunity is for a (small) bank to offer escrow and secure deposit (web wallets) services. Everyone else is a dinosaur. Projects like tØ, overstock, have the potential to gut most of the stock exchange depository (custodial) platforms. All overnight finance must and will flip to crypto in 2-3 years. And will not be overnight but 10min roll over cycles.
The legal + legacy banker platforms can survive but most rotate to 30-60-90 day cycles and basically just back the crypto 24/7 ecosystem, and intermediate with the political regimes.

ps lost a few SMC to Cryptsy debacle, but all is fair given the emergency realtime nature of the situation. Coins that were still on deposit to help SMC act as a fair form of orderly withdraw via SMC, but still looks like 50k SMC at approximate fairmarket value are lost.
I will offer 1000 SMC to anyone that can kickstart a basic data dump of any and all Cryptsy SMC related facts, like trade charts, and order book, and any other useful info tidbits. Upload to github, mega, or any open source server. Post and PM to collect.

Treading this same path for my own porpoises. Too many issues need to be resolved for a hand-executed version to be both i) useful and ii) maintainable, it does need to be automated and that will require conceptual rigour --- which is where the utility lies.
My approach is to iteratively refine a set of string matches until the desired data is accurately and reliably read out of the source code repository.
Step 1 is to sieve coinmarketcap.com's list of currencies for bitcoin-protocol PoW coins. Step 2 is to backfill any missing source code repositories.
Currently working on the back-filling.
The posting limitations inhibit coherent reporting of detail. See subsequent posts for details

If this content is viewed as inappropriate for the thread, speak up and I'll migrate it to another. Personally, I can just about make an argument for it being smart-related because of the rigour it demands.
If anyone feels like contributing some reconciliations, pick a rank range and advertise it, so that work isn't duplicated (I'm working my down from the top). All that's needed is the tracked-down github url paired with the minkiz url of the coin so I can just spool them into the db. It'll get written into the open-source DOACC RDF graph ultimately, to act as a public resource.
At the moment, the list includes only those alts that are listed on an exchange polled by coinmarketcap.com. I guess there will be “major” PoW coins that aren't listed on an exchange but I suspect that they're few in number. Suggestions on a postcard, please ...
