I really don't understand, why the developers are concentrating to create more new coins under the umbrella of bitcoin. Why they are using the name of the bitcoin, they should use some other name. Bitcoin Cash has been introduced recently and its future is still uncertain, it does not make any sense to introduce another coin by using same logic.

Another hard fork seems to come soon. The new bitcoin will be named "Bitcoin Gold". How would you think about this?

Bitcoin Gold will be successful as like Bitcoin Cash?

Bitcoin price will go higher before and after the new hard fork?

https://www.coindesk.com/first-cash-now-gold-another-bitcoin-hard-fork-way/

I have heard that the fork is scheduled in november and some source says that will be delayed . Is it going to happen this month?

After the release of the forked coin there is always a possibility that the btc price will go higher . As lots of traders believe in btc than anything else so they will convert the forked coin into btc as soon as they receive it.

We should avoid this hard fork. It is dangerous for bitcoin ecosystem and value. Exchanges and miners should ban this coin and not only think about profits.

Do you think Bitcoin Cash was successful? It is not even close to Bitcoin so how it becomes successful. Bitcoin Gold will be the same as like Bitcoin Cash and I am expecting that it will not worth more than Bitcoin Cash or may be its price will fall badly.
Surely the price will rise again after the hard fork as it was boosted after the last hard fork in august.

Dear everyone,

here is an article by Bitcoin.com with the title "Bitcoin Gold: A Very Unorganized Plan to Hard Fork Bitcoin With Connections to the NO2x Movement":
https://news.bitcoin.com/a-closer-look-at-the-suspicious-activity-involved-with-the-bitcoin-gold-fork/

This is a part of the article open for discussion:
>>There are also many other flaws involved with the project that hopes to hard fork the Bitcoin network in just a few weeks. As we reported earlier, the team does not have a testnet of the network created, so miners can’t test the system. Further, unlike the Bitcoin Cash network, the BTG project still implements the same per-block difficulty adjustment as bitcoin (BTC) in its code, and has no signs of an Emergency Difficulty Adjustment (EDA). Additionally, unlike the website’s claims, there is no replay attack protection added to the protocol, even though the team is adamantly against Segwit2x not adding replay protection. Another disturbing aspect of the BTG project is the implementation of a pre-mine within the code called the “PoW retargeting change for BTG hard fork pre-mine period.”<<

Furthermore, it looks like that BTG is trying to get all the GPU miners, which might switch to BTG, when ETH is switching from a proof of work to proof of stake algorithm. This of course, is a lot of mining power. Does anyone here, who mines ETH, planning to switch?

Kind regards,
Halcon D.

Any hardfork is an altcoin by definition.
The problem here is: Who "defines" which one is the "altcoin" and which one "the Bitcoin"?

In the case of forks with (projected) low acceptance and hashrate, like Bitcoin Cash and probably also Bitcoin Gold, it is easy to tell, but not so much with bigger ships like Segwit2x. You have then to answer the question: Is Bitcoin "the original chain" or "the chain with most hashrate"? And what if the Bitcoin Core devs created a hard fork (e.g. the "nuclear option" discussed some time ago)? Would they create an altcoin or simply an [hard-forking] update? You see, it's not so easy.

But maybe all these forks - Bch, Bitcoin Gold - have a positive consequence: After two or three forks more, the Original Bitcoin Chain's position as "the one and only Bitcoin" could at the end be strengthened. Because human mind is limited, nobody wants to remember all forks that could happen, and at some moment most Bitcoin users simply won't care about the newest hardforks. They will have the same importance than "regular" altcoins not created by a hard fork. This could also affect Segwit2x and limit its importance (probably for the good of Bitcoin).

got my interest from here sir, I haven't got that much information regarding to what can possibly happen from this fork and from your insight
I got some idea and I will read more and assess which is which and what can be the possible effect of this incoming fork from this investment that
I've got.

ah there lies a key bit of information, from what you posted
it looks like they indeed are trying to hoover up the GPU miners
they see a gap in the market so to speak.

im confused.
this bitcoin gold = the segwit2x?
does this mean free coins again like bcash?
if this is not the sg2x.
then u get free coins for btcoin gold and free coins for sg2x?
so 2times free coins.

or am i wrong?

Thanks.

Does anyone know if there is some minumum amount of coins you need to hold to recieve BTG during fork? Thanks
Lol it's a fork same like bch, if you have say 1 bitcoin, you'll get 1 bitcoin gold and no there's nothing like you must hold a minimum amount of bitcoin to get the fork coin.

Another hard fork seems to come soon. The new bitcoin will be named "Bitcoin Gold". How would you think about this?

Can we really say that BCH is successful given the price range it has now as against the few days it was launched when price surged to over $800? As for the fork, this one won't be a big deal and we don't expect the same panic situation as August 1 that produced the BitcoinCash. Hopefully too we expect another round of bonus on the new coin.
I wouldn't mind few extra cash lol. i got really good amount selling bch. Roll Eyes

It is another piece of good news for the users that have tons of bitcoins in their bitcoin wallet, this is another chance to get some free money from the upcoming bitcoin hard fork. I guess we will see another huge dump of bitcoin gold onto the market once the trading of it goes live on exchanges site.

It has been long foreseen after the first fork that took place in August and was stipulated to take place by November from what I know anyway, but October? I am not sure about that yet as the only October fork in everyone's mind now is the upgrade that will be done by Ethereum.

But whatever, same old, same old, it is just another means of having an extra cash. I do not even like the name anyway, so I will just stick with Bitcoin or probably wait for it to get pumped like BCC and sell. I do not expect anything different than what happened in August to happen again, except for the FUD that was generated as a result of the August fork that makes it different since most people do not even care about this one.

So guys I'm confused … Bitcoin Gold will have another mining algorithm and some other changes. Doesn't bitcoin get any fork? Am I right? Nobody will/can change the standard for altcoins, so bitcoin will be the price maker for altcoins. Everybody who holds Bitcoin gets the same amount of bitcoin gold?

Sorry but I'm very confused.

I think Bitcoin is "the skeleton" since Satoshi's Whitepaper ... my main interest though... is about point 3 of his paper

I thought the next hardfork was in November? Anyways this is not a surprise surely there is and there will be other altcoins to be released in the market I guess a way to divert the market of bitcoin since it really grows very fast and the demand continue to increase but we should not worry because it will not affect so much the value of bitcoin I'm confident it will still remain stable in the market

I do like the name ... but what is the motivation for that  ?

oh .. I see

"Bitcoin gold will implement a proof-of-work change from bitcoin's SHA256 to Equihash, a memory-hard algorithm that is ASIC-resistant and optimized for GPU mining," explained pseudonymous bitcoin gold developer "The Sorrow."

https://www.coindesk.com/first-cash-now-gold-another-bitcoin-hard-fork-way/

OK ...

I think it can be more useful for long term investidors like miners and hodlrers ...

GPU hardware have lower depreciation rate. Gold is Gold people like to hold it like your wedding ring ...

because im a miner, i will appreciate with this forking.
the difficult of ethereum is very high, for me to hard to get ROI for my hardware now. but with new currency called bitcoin gold, i can mining equihash with my gpu and holding it.

Regards to Semiconductor industry the Moore's Law is not working anymore (All Watts Considered, Keynote address, International Symposium on Low Power Electronics and Design, ACM, Portland, OR (2007)) .. so we must to go on the "parallelism" way (GPU is just a bunch of micro cores in parallel ...

regards the Gold stuff ... I still dreaming with something like

Like there's gonna be something like a low power thing that uses high GPU miner, I think it will depend on a place to consider in engaging with mining and I think if you are a long term miner now your gonna be on top of the food chain with mining and if you are only just starting to mine right now the possibility to ROI would be very difficult, but well I like the 1000 gold bar you have shared it is pretty nice seeing this things.

Of course run a light-network node on a fan-less ARM device will be hard to beat in terms of energy efficiency Grin LoL ...

but we talking about Datacenters builders

"many energy-saving techniques developed for mobile devices are natural candidates for tackling this new problem space, but ultimately a Warehouse-scale computer (WSC) is quite different from mobile device." (Hölzle, Barroso Datacenter as a Computer)
