Another hard fork seems to come soon. The new bitcoin will be named "Bitcoin Gold". How would you think about this?

Bitcoin Gold will be successful as like Bitcoin Cash?

Bitcoin price will go higher before and after the new hard fork?

Nah it's far to happen.
Bitcoin cash is just a result of august hard fork and bitcoin gold will be just like that.
But touching again its new ATH will hope to happen again like what happened last august. The event will just reoccur as the fuds and trolls are every where again.

I do like the name ... but what is the motivation for that  ?

oh .. I see

"Bitcoin gold will implement a proof-of-work change from bitcoin's SHA256 to Equihash, a memory-hard algorithm that is ASIC-resistant and optimized for GPU mining," explained pseudonymous bitcoin gold developer "The Sorrow."

https://www.coindesk.com/first-cash-now-gold-another-bitcoin-hard-fork-way/

OK ...

I think it can be more useful for long term investidors like miners and hodlrers ...

GPU hardware have lower depreciation rate. Gold is Gold people like to hold it like your wedding ring ...

because im a miner, i will appreciate with this forking.
the difficult of ethereum is very high, for me to hard to get ROI for my hardware now. but with new currency called bitcoin gold, i can mining equihash with my gpu and holding it.

Can we really say that BCH is successful given the price range it has now as against the few days it was launched when price surged to over $800? As for the fork, this one won't be a big deal and we don't expect the same panic situation as August 1 that produced the BitcoinCash. Hopefully too we expect another round of bonus on the new coin.

We lost out big time on Bitcoin Cash, but hopefully this time around can score a few free Bitcoin Gold. I think it is pretty sweet how simply owning a Bitcoin can get you like 10% ROI simply from free airdrops. Like, normally the stock market goes up 8% per year or 10% if you are lucky. And we just get free money basically from owning Bitcoin instead. Sweet.  Cool

im confused.
this bitcoin gold = the segwit2x?
does this mean free coins again like bcash?
if this is not the sg2x.
then u get free coins for btcoin gold and free coins for sg2x?
so 2times free coins.

or am i wrong?

Thanks.

Does anyone know if there is some minumum amount of coins you need to hold to recieve BTG during fork? Thanks

It is another opportunity for us to be more financially free, it seems that by the looks of it, bitcoin gold can surpass bitcoin cash, and will give us more profit. It is lile we are taking care of our own child, which in this case is bitcoin, not only does it gives us profit, security and hopes but it also gives us rewards, and this time its going to give another altcoin, which is bitcoin gold, another cryptocurrency that will give us more hope. I think this is one of the reasons, why banks do not like bitcoin, whenever it is broken down, another cryptocurrency will be produced and will give us more profit, in that sense,.why would you save in the bank, it will only give you less than 2% gain per anum, not even fit enough to battle inflation, though they have other investment plans, still compare to the percentage bitcoin can gain in months ot even days, it is still higher, and products of banks will not give you ghe reward bitcoin can give, which is bitcioin gold this coming fork. Hopefully bitcoin gold can bring an end to banks, bad mouthing bitcoin and make those countries that banned bitcoin realize what they have done.

I think it will be a good opportunity to get more profit, we can buy it when the price is cheap and ready to sell it at high prices, hopefully the price can soar like BITCOIN CASH, I will not miss this opportunity.

I don't think that is a hardfork they are just using the bitcoin's code and create a new altcoin and i hope it will have an airdrops Smiley  it is just based on my understanding in the article but it needs more info anyways i hope this is true so i can get ready for an airdrop haha

Any hardfork is an altcoin by definition. It's also an airdrop as long as the UTXO set is copied. In the case of Bitcoin Gold, it will be. I think that this coin might cause an initial stir -- people love a massive airdrop. I think that's why there was so much "customer demand" for Bitcoin Cash from exchanges. It wasn't because people wanted Bitcoin Cash per se, it's because they wanted free money. Same logic applies here.

There is also some attraction to the gimmick of memory-hard/GPU-oriented mining, but it's mostly a gimmick.

we will soon have some more fun and a good amount of reward equal to what amount of bitcoin we hold. i only see this as a good chance to increase the amount of bitcoin that hold. just like any other airdrop that has happened so far.

the good thing about this new airdrop is that it can not take anything from bitcoin's hashrate unlike what bitcoin cash can simply do. so no matter what they do, they will be a separate altcoin which is good.

Since BTC Cash as a first fork of BTC which has proven to be just that, a fork, as another alt, I think another split will do no harm to BTC in general.

There might be some price fluctuation in the market, but that is. At the end all will come to the as usual.

And as someone else said it before, some free money on the way, because there will always be someone around who will buy it.

Bitcoin cash and bitcoin gold are just same there is no effect of both for bitcoin in the future. I think Bitcoin can stand alone without both coins.

Where is my ring of blades...

this does NOT mean a hard fork. coindesk seems to be spreading wrong information now!

So, you're blaming coindesk? And you believe there's no hard fork coming and oh, by the way the following 'seems to be spreading wrong information' too...
instead of reading 1 line of my comment try reading the full comment that I wrote!

the information about this new altcoin is not yet enough. their website does not have anything on it either. the only news comes from their Twitter and from what I have read so far it seems like they are just using bitcoin code not the blockchain and they will just take a snapshot of it at a certain date like what other altcoins with airdrops have one (Byteball, stellar, bitcore,....) and give 1:1 amount of their altcoin.

this does NOT mean a hard fork. coindesk seems to be spreading wrong information now!

also I did not say there is "no" hard fork. all the links you gave below apart from 1 of them are talking about SegWit2x which has nothing to do with Bitcoin Gold!

Bitcoin Gold implements the UAHF (User Activated Hard Fork) proposal to accept GPU mining. Miners can choose the size of the blocks they want to mine, with a default of 1 MB. It includes replay and wipeout protection
How is that going to help the coin in getting mass adopted for real world usage as compared to the main Bitcoin though? Grin

If Bitcoin devs don't resolve the scaling issue, then the mass adoption of that currency is not going to last forever. The number of users are increasing, and the number of transactions will also increase proportionately. Even the increased 2 MB block size (as per Segwit 2x) may not be enough to accommodate all of the transactions in the future.

More free money for us since BTC holders will be rewarded again. This one is interesting since it is actually GPU mineable, nice stuff. Smiley

I do not expect it to have any kind of long term exposure, all these copycats eventually die.
