Dogie. Why are the fans on the S3+ so loud when Bitmain markets them as quiet miners? It seems like a little more money could be spent on getting a high efficiency fan that runs quieter so we don't have to go buy aftermarket fans to replace the stock fans on the S3+ units. Bitmain needs to start considering things like this and provide a better quality product for the end users.

yes, I shipped them back to the US location. I deleted all my post to wait for Bitmaintech to send me new units.

Yes, one was the bad cap, the 2nd unit when I plugged it in would not power on. So what I did was I unplugged it, opened up the case and plugged it in. The only thing I saw was a spark on the right board, nothing else, the other board would also not power up. I tested these on different power supply, its just like those 2 miners came from a bad pile. I just want them to ship me 2 new units, which from my emails with them is not one of the options they are willing to offer me. I just received these days ago, so there would be no motivation for me to break them on purpose and go through all of this.  I want them to send 2 brand new miners, or refund me the full amount. Both of those I was told are not options. It's not like I was mining these for months, they were DOA units! Not something that needs to be repaired! I agree it is odd that I got 2 bad miners, I believe they shipped me miners from a returns pile. I only ask they make this right since it's clearly a mistake.

I purchased them from Bitmain directly from the website, I spoke with Yoshi, when I showed him that photo and told him smoke was pouring out he asked me what pool I was using??? He said they are going to fix that fire trap and send it back to me. I just want 2 new units or a refund, I was told neither is an option.

So do you have one or two units which are a problem, what are the problems on both of them? So far I see a photo of one bent cap. Yes, you would not receive a refund or replacement unless you sent the unit back anyway.

I'm not sure what the problem is, you're saying the miner(s) are damaged and have been offered to have them fixed?

Yoshi has given you address details right? Ship them back and I'll make sure you get new miners.

MrPark, the cap in the photo has been damaged by an impact.  It was hit with something.  You can see the slight dent in the cap can.

Hi there. This is my first post.  I purchased four S3’s and have had trouble keeping them mining since I received them about three weeks ago. They will all run for several hours and then GH/s drops down from about 450 Gh/s to about 45 Gh/s.

I had previously been running five S1's that ran great for 6 months. The issue has only begun with the four new S3. They do not drop internet connection they just lower the hash rate to about 45 Gh/s.

This happens randomly with each S3 and at different times. I cannot run longer than 16 hours before 1 to 3 miners will drop out to about 45 Gh/s randomly.

I would much appreciate some suggestions and help.

Wondering if the problems is with your PSU's?

Its a known firmware problem, but would be good to know what his PSU setup is as well.

Your S3's shipped with the "faulty" firmware so you will have to flash them to the latest 19th December firmware.
To check what firmware you have on your S3's, go to the webUI Status => Overview page.

Get the latest firmware from the bitmain support page.

This is correct, firmware can be found here. Double checking to make sure that latest December firmware is being loaded as standard (if not already). MD5: 7DF1B12D28B25E10AAC37E2EAFC7397B

nice try, but no way. Others have had the same issue, how is a cap that is raised off the board my fault? I have purcased over 50 S3 or more and other mining equipment.

From where and when did you purchase the S3. When did you return it and to who. Who have you communicated with at Bitmain?

I ordered 4 S3+ and one of them had a crooked cap that made smoke pour out of the unit, the 2nd DOA unit just made a spark when I plugged it in. That's a 50% defect rate out of the gate! There is nothing wrong with my power supply or electrical as everyone including bitmain is suggesting over and over to me. I used a 20 amp single breaker on each G2 EVGA 1300 with just 3 miners on it with stock PCI-E connectors that worked fine on all my other S3, which should be more than enough. I ran regular S3s on this setup since June.  I am sorry, but bitmain has to do something to really restore my confidence here. I can understand the S3+ going bad after a few months, but 2 of right away out of the box? Even though I have the photos as evidence, its still feels like no one believes me, it MUST have been something I have done wrong and not anyone at bitmain. Very frustrating. I am sending them back, even after they see the smoke pouring out and the spark from the other unit, they probably will still want to blame me for it.

One word - SPONDOOLIES! Israeli made, no bullshit, just works.

This guy is right. Spondoolies iz awesome!

I think we will have to wait and see if you had an isolated failure or if it is wide spread. At this point, you are the only person whose posted this type of failure. I'm not saying its your fault, just that, unlike a different company, there has not been dozens of posted, burned units, at this point.

Bored with you morons.
I contacted Bitmain and I want to warn all customers,  bitmain this is war. You sent me two bad miners that would have started a fire if I wasn't home and they won't give me new miners as replacement. I am going to report this the the FTC and also enter them on the mail fraud list. I went through all this with another mining company. They are starting a war with the wrong guy. I returned the miners within days but they refuse to accept a return. Only to put a bandaid on these fire traps and send them back to me. complete B.S. and not legal either. I also asked about refunding money and they said the amount would be so low they would give me would be a very low amount and no where near what I paid. Unbelievable....

What the hell is the FTC going to do? They're a Chinese-based company. The FTC has no legal authority over a company in China.

Has anybody done a undervolt/clock of the S3 to get the watts per GH down like we did with pencil mods on the S1's? Its time to do something with my 6- S3's

PM BitmainWarranty to arrange an RMA. Be sure to link to your post describing the issues, what type and how many miners you wish to have repaired/replaced and your bitmaintech.com order number.

Hmmm, seems like BITMAIN just used the controller and two hashing boards from the S4 Huh?

and made the S5 out of it.

no the chips are different. the s-5 is very efficient for power much better then the s-4.

I did a review for the s-5 and it is very close to the sp20.

2 s-5's are 900 shipped to my door in the USA and 2 sp20's are 1000 shipped to my door in the USA.  You can do a lot of comparisons of the two.

For me in my home using about 10 pieces I give the sp20 a very small edge. For others the s-5 will be better.

Just looked - an SP20 is $659, holiday special.  How do you get $500 each?
