Friedcat just thru a wrench in the works.. Selling 1.4TH/s rigs for less than 1BTC/TH or 1.064 shipped outside China. That will put a roof on the S4 price, I say 2BTC shipped.
The power consumption on friedcat's rigs is S2 specs. 1w/Gh. I'm pretty sure the S4 will be in the .6W/Gh range. I like friedcat and his products but at this time he's 4 months behind bitmain. There's a reason his rigs are cheap.
yeah but do the math an asic tube is .85 at 950 watts so 2 are 1.7th at 1900 watts.
I had two. my cost was 2 btc 800 usd for 1.7th burning 1900 watts I have lots of psu's so not an issue.
my power is 15 cents a kwatt so let us round to 2 kwatts for 1.7th vs 1 kwatt for 2th.
or 1 extra k-watt an hour 24 a day that is 15 cents x 24 = 3.60 usd a day. 108 usd a month. at 10 cents it is 72 usd a month .
So lets take the s-4 1000 watts for 2 th and price of 1200 usd so buying the tube miner I spend 400 less for 1.7th I saved 400 bucks. IF I have psu's.
Even where I live at 108 more a month for at least 2 more like 3 months the tube is better for me.
In my case I ordered the pair and did not like the pool choice of cex.io I used mmpool.org a tiny pool I hit 2 fast blocks and I have roi'd with the pair of tube miners. I am .6 btc ahead . And I sold them for 1.2btc so someone else will most likely do roi with them.
Buying 10x of them is 7.9 btc for 8.5th sell 8 on ebay for 450 usd each you did your roi for all 10. and have 2 for mining.
So I've thought about doing just that, I'm a reseller and do have the BTC to invest in reselling these. But that's not everything. For instance, as I understand it you only get 3 controllers; so either I buy extra controllers (about $30/ea) for the miners I plan on selling individually, or provide Raspberry Pis configured for them, or expect that the buyer (unrealistically) will know how to set the tubes up. Also, the BE200 seems to need a stratum proxy still to work on every pool, which detracts from its utility. And finally, the new Block Erupter Prisma was announced today, but at a MOC of 14.9 BTC it's just too huge an investment.
FYI, as I break down the costs I have:
Block Erupter Prisma: 0.0010642857 BTC/GH
Antminer S3+ 0.0012803532 BTC/GH
Block Erupter Tube 0.0009875 BTC/GH
At the end of the day, the S3+ is only 0.000292 more expensive per GH than the Tube, and only 0.000216 BTC more than the Prisma. And it requires 0 assembly, includes a much nicer OpenWRT-based controller (one per "hashing unit", not 3 for every 10) that works on every single pool, and a decent enclosure with excellent airflow.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems only marginally (razor thin) cheaper to go with the Tube, and you're still paying a higher Watt to GH ratio, and it'll be much harder to sell later.
