What do soft power tables do?  I don't get why they're needed.
You can't change the voltage on states P0-P5 on the core or P0-P3 on the Memory without modifying the registry. In essence the tables don't give you any extra hashrate but lower the amperage draw of the card. You can save like 60W per card.

Most people don't understand that. They simply open AMD settings and bring the power settings down -20% and think they are running at max efficiency.. which they are absolutely not. Not even close.

Does brnstead's Excel-based-macro soft power play registry creator work for Vega 56s as well? Or does it apply only to Vega 64?

I'm asking because i'm using an MSI Vega 56 OC Airboost which currently does not have any stock BIOSes for the Vega 64 airboost version (using the MSI vega 64 reference version results in crashes).

Anyway since no one seems to be replying in this thread anymore, i'd just like to report that i've gone ahead and tried this myself and it works. It works for both VEGA 64s or VEGA 56s, original bios mod or not.

If you're still around, thanks @brnstead!

Could you please link the original post of his macro ?

I am getting 17340h/s on my 8 GPU Vega 64 Liquid edition rig with 1500W from the wall. Can someone here tell me if they tried more than 8 GPU in a rig with the new drivers and miner?

which motherboard and OS ?

windows 10 pro on asus b250 mining expert

Wow, that is faster than my rig.  Running eight Vega FEs at 17,250 h/s, BC driver, around 2000w.  247.5w 2156 h/s per GPUs. Same OS and motherboard.  Just wow.

FYI Got back into doing some GPU tinkering, picked up the Saphire Vega 56 pulse...this is a neat little card. I have it at 47 MH stable on eth right now.
samsung mem?

Yep, and its actually the nano PCB AMD never used on this thing. Made a post about it on reddit.

Just got this card for testing (sapphire vega56 pulse) and it has hynix hbm2 ram ((( Only 1900h/s cryptonight

That's "silicon lotery". All GPUs are not the same, you can check your ASIC rate with GPU-Z. The higher, the better. At the same frequency a better ASIC will require less power.
With my Polaris based GPUs, my better card at 1200MHz core draws less power than my weakest at 1140MHz.

I have a weird situation. I have a 6 GPU Vega 56 rig and 3 use GPU Core Voltage (VDDC) at 0.981 and the other 3 at 0.863 Sad

All I can think about is they are on separate PSU's but those PSU's are identical. They all use the same power tabel and clocks speeds for the most part so it is not that. What else can it be?

that;s nice. what's your config settings?

Id say thats horrible huh, but ofc power is all over the place with that hashrate. Id downclock to decent ~140w per card @ 1950 h/s.

Try SRBminer with intensity 112. its working fine. or use CastXmr.
Why xmr-stak?!

What do soft power tables do?  I don't get why they're needed.

punchline is that OverdrivNTool does not control P states below GPU_P6, and MEM_P3... even though they show up as editable in the GUI.  Soft Power Play tables are required to actually change those values.)

from vegaminingguides

The thing is, I changed those using a powertable editor and it made no difference to how much power was taken from the wall. Maybe I am missing something, but what else does PPT do to help with reducing power consumption that OverdriveNTool does not?

Vega's on Cryptonote-Heavy got 1500+-/hs
.......skipped.
Code:
[2018-04-11 14:39:24] GPU0:    1551.0 H/S [T: 56c, RPM: 4192]
[2018-04-11 14:39:24] GPU1:    1541.0 H/S [T: 56c, RPM: 4192]
[2018-04-11 14:39:24] GPU2:    1512.0 H/S [T: 55c, RPM: 4560]

I try run CN-heavy on srb and got error: low diff share, i have add "cryptonight_type" : "heavy", in config file but don't work.

Can you post you config file here?

Tks
What coin? only Sumo and Haven now on Havy.
In my config nothing special...type=heavy, pool address, gpu config.. same as you.
Check pool settings. may be u forget change to other coin...

because of its integration with the JJ's hash monitor. I never figured out the cast xmr;s UI that sets hash rate thresholds.

anyway I did use cast xmr and got similar hashrate. Not sure where the problem is. Using win 10 1709

Go back and look on the Cast thread for StellarX88's modified JJ hash monitor script.  That works with Cast + JJ hash monitoring, and works very well.

JJ has released closed source precious Guardian too to work around this too. As of now I am still using the one I modified myself for both Xmr-stak & Cast-Xmr. Let me know if you need assistance to set it up on your rig.

Vega's on Cryptonote-Heavy got 1500+-/hs
Vega's on Cryptonote and Cryptonote-V7 got 2000+/hs

If anyone know settings for Cryptonote-Heavy to reach 2000+ please prove that  Wink

CastXmr 0.9.2 does not support Cryptonote-Heavy.
Only xmr-stak and SRBMiner can support Cryptonote-Heavy as far as I know.

For V7:
SRBMiner intensity 112+double_threads  give ~ 2040h/s on Vega's 56.
For CN-Heavy:
mem 1105/1200
SRBMiner:
Plays with worksize for each card. for me is 5-10.
Fore some card default ws 8 is not good fr h/s. one card give 1500+ with ws 7, other card with ws 10.. i don't know why.
config:
{ "id" : 0, "intensity" : 61, "worksize" : 5-10, "threads" : 2},
result for v64:
Code:
[2018-04-11 14:39:24] GPU0:    1551.0 H/S [T: 56c, RPM: 4192]
[2018-04-11 14:39:24] GPU1:    1541.0 H/S [T: 56c, RPM: 4192]

Monitor you clocks/volts/temps using HWInfo64.  What are your GPU settings.  Are you using OverdriveNtool or something else? post the profile you're trying to use.
