ICO are not completely dead but GOING SOON! Majority of 2020 crypto companies are going IEO. Only few startups trying their fate in ICO. People tend to trust IEO more than ICO because funds collected in IEO are automatically credited back to its investors.

Interesting article about the death of ICOs and the emergence of IEO... https://cryptotradernews.com/investing-trading/are-icos-really-dead/

What do you guys think? I don't think ICOs are fully dead. They just need to be regulated in more efficient ways. Most ICOs from 2017-2018 never delivered on their promises because they were being ran by a bunch of assholes who didn't deliver squad... We need more regulation. Only then will ICOs get better imo.

When I met cryptocurrencies in 2017, we would constantly follow ICOs and act accordingly. I think the ICO era is over now.

maybe the Era of ICO is now over, but over doesn't mean dead my friend
because i see a lot of project still do their crowdfunding use ICO methode buddy, maybe the hype is over but ICO still alive until now
Yeah, you've got a point. ICOs is not completely dead yet because there are still some projects that have been using that method, unfortunately, the hype is now over and because investors lost interest in it. Even the IEOs are now getting phase-out and also for the same reason because of scammers ruining it. Why would you waste your time finding a good ICOs today if DeFi is the trend. There's a lot DeFi projects are running right now so why not go for them, it would have been more guaranteed though.

Havent seen ICO projects, that successfully raise soft or hardcaps recently. Anyone can point me something?
I used to check ICO on https://icobench.com/, but now this page is not updated anymore. There was https://icodrops.com/ also, and I see it is updated frequently. But the "goal - not set" makes me feel sad. Back in the past projects were more active to get funding, now many are lazy to fill and check project presented information. Or even worse, plan to run a project and dont have an idea about financial strategy.

And also a lot of negative stigma on ICOs because of the many scam projects. In terms of security, ICOs are also far behind IEOs, and investors certainly don't want to risk their money to fundraising structures whose security is weak or even uncertain.
It is only natural for the stigma to exist after so many scam projects. And the worst part is that even after so many scam projects, most of the ICO promoters failed to ensure adequate security mechanism, to improve the confidence level of the investors. They continue to refuse requests for third party escrow of the project funds and independent audits. So it is only natural for the investors to stay clear of the new ICOs.
This is what makes ICOs stuck and will never again become a good fundraising method, unless they really have good products, real uses with targeted solutions and are willing to cooperate with third parties to ensure security. I don't hate ICOs at all, it's just that they are too easily used by scammers for profit

how would a scammer be regulated?and when talking about ICO we are dealing with multi group of scammers that pretending to be a crypto lower and a investors friend though at the very beginning we can evaluate their motive by offering Moon and Sun just to make us believe .

And now they adjusted to more legit way in which pretending to be Fair and promising smaller ROI so may hide the intention behid.

ICO in the main deal is good for crypto community but The ERA had been passed and the willingness of legit company are being destroyed  and will be harder to recover.

Many ICO projects are dead since 2018 but ICO crowdfunding is still alive till today, people gave up on ICO crowdfunding because they are taken advantage of by scammers in 2017-2018, ICO lost its trust and IEO took over, slowly and gradually IEO became a more reliable crowdfunding strategy

ICOs are still alive, but the numbers have decreased considerably this year. Because they can't compete with IEO and DeFi,
Besides, based on my observations, the current ICO is no longer profitable. Even 95% scams, but there are still bounty hunters
who are interested in promoting ICOs. But with the bullrun later this year, there is a possibility that in 2021 the ICO trend will
repeat itself. Because many investors want ICOs to rise again like in 2017.

The new hype is DeFis which currently in Vogue while ICOs and IEOs will soon be phase out as they are no longer popular and profitable again probably due scammers having a field day in their projects or due to the bearish market conditions however as  cryptos market turned bullish I was  also expecting a resurgence of ICOs in the market just like that of 2017,  however nothing has really changed with ICOs, I believed a shift to DeFis by investors was responsible for it

yes of course ICO is not dead because many investors are disappointed with the ICO project and of course there are no investors who are interested in raising funds using the ICO method, currently prefer the DeFi platform project.

So this means ICO is dead already because investors are not anymore interested in investing, clear up your statement dude.  Grin
Actually, it's been dead a long time ago, in 2019, I think it was completely dead and those who plan to do a crowd sale already understands that.

for sure it is already dead the ICO Season where every project was raising millions of USD in a matter of months. I am not sure there will be again a situation like this since now there are more regulations and the hype is over. this is a kind of new product to finance project it can't disappear.

I think ICOs are reborn because of many Defi projects, see if you know that many Defi projects do ICOs,
of course this makes ICOs popular again, but for me, ICOs are very vulnerable to us because scammers are easy to get there, be careful.
Yes, that's the current situation of ICO's. Due to many Defi projects, ICO's has been getting a great comeback and that's the reason investors have showing trust towards the ICO's again just because of the Defi projects. But still, we have to be very careful about the ICO investment so as not to get trapped in an ICO scam.

By now everybody expects there to be a big dump after the ICO is over so people don't want to invest in them anymore. They have seen a small resurgence thanks to the defi hype. Projects can launch a new token and promise yield farming rewards to motivate investors.

yeah! ICO wakes up again from a long sleep, although it is Hype Defi that makes ICO popular again,
but unfortunately for projects other than Defi, ICO is still not very popular, for some reason,
the important thing is not to get caught by HYPE.

Things change, IEOs to me a calibrated ICOs. All aiming towards the same goal. however the previous (IEOs) are superior to ICOs on the grounds that investors make certain of listing and furthermore sure that the team ain't scam. ICOs are not dead, they just developed, albeit a few people actually complete token sales through ICOs. I additionally saw a few projects which did ICOs and fizzled went to exchanges for IEO
Yes using IEO gives the project access to list on the exchange that the crowdfunding took place and also there is confidence of scam free when investing on projects that use top exchanges for crowdfunding, top exchanges always make sure that nothing ruin their reputation, isn't this the dream of every investors? IEO do things way better than ICO, sometimes too much freedom opens door to more crime
