The question is,  is there anyone who can be referred to as a successful gambler since it is now evident that gambling doesn't guarantee stability and it winning is highly based on luck and for that, it's hard to see anyone who will make a good amount of money from gambling that can make you successful gamblers.

People may see anyone who gamble excessively to be addict,  but in the end, it all depends on the individual and what they want from the active game involvement,  but the chances of sliding into an addiction truly since he will be gambling excessively just to meet the set income and on a steady basis.
Yeah there are very successful  gamblers and I know one very well, we're  very close and his a childhood friend who basically  got his life stablying money from a bet and now he owns over 5 betting outlets in my country and getting some nice investments through gambling winnings.

I know my friend too well that most times, his always analyzing one match or the other and do me he behaves more like an addict but wouldn't have to call him such because his doing very well for himself through same addiction.

Successful gamblers set target and worked towards their target thus not necessarily being an addict probably they  set a weekly or monthly target and win consistently though losses are inevitable, once those targets are met some will take a break, they analyze their bets and pick sure ones and stake their money, however in a long run profits accrued overtime outweigh losses, personally I believe addicted gamblers are those who gamble to become rich quickly unfortunately ended up getting rekted, while some addicted won't quick until they believe they can recover their losses, however successful gamblers don't have that kind of mindset.
I love how you too your time to explain this and I believe  addiction is a state of mind and action planing because what differentiates an addict from a successful gambler is goals and drills such a gambler has towards gambling.

Can we define what gambling addiction is?

It's only someone who keep gambling continuously or it's someone who keep gambling continuously despite they lose a lot money and ruin their life? If you consider the first choice, it's not a problem because an addicted successful gambler will keep making money. While the other one, become a gambling addict sounds bad.

If you're making money through trading Bitcoin, it's not a problem to say you're an addicted trader isn't?

Underestimate- nothing
Success have got different definition. It all depends upon the person and the limit they've set to term a person is successful. Not all are addicts, most of the time jackpot winners used to get addicted as they don't know what to do with the big money that's been won. Some people used to have prior experience handling big money and they use it properly whereas there are people who just spend it lavish and once again starts to gamble with the left behind. This makes them get into addiction, so not every successful gambler is an addict.

In addition, the word success and addiction has two different picture and different phases, and when you talk about success is more positive and addiction carries a lot of negativity and very sure that people that are successful in gambling are not addicts looking at an addict and a revenge trader are almost similar making a decision in respect of there emotion not just a decision but a reckless one, and been successful involves discipline especially when you want to gamble just one greedy decision can ruin all forever so having an understanding of the two matters a lot.

This has to do with personality, but the majority of people who win the lottery always end up wasting money. They are always confused about how to spend the money, and at the end of the day, the money is spent on irrelevant things, and they become addicts, as you mentioned.

What's the definition of a "successful gambler" ?
Those who (1) quit gambling or (2) withdraw money more than their deposit in their lifetime?

The chance of you can pull off the 2nd scenario is so slim... so successful gambler is those who quit gambling or just play for fun. Not the addicts!

I will take into account only poker, which is what I play the most. For successful poker players, there is a fine line that separates what is work from an addiction. If we take among the cast of the best players today, such as Daniel Negreanu or Phil Ivey, we see that from very early on they played many hours, more than psychologically recommended, and precisely that was one of the key factors that led them to where they are today. This was especially true in the early years of their careers. Today they also have poker as a full time job, its success and its complementation with other sources of income make them able to lift their foot off the accelerator. They are a kind of poker workalcoholics that has led them to success.

This is not always the case, however. There are also many people who spend many hours playing poker and losing in the long run, like those who play slots.

The essential difference here is whether or not all those hours bring you an economic benefit. In the case of Negreanu or Ivey we can say that they are workaholics who have achieved success. In the case of people who spend a lot of time playing poker and losing money, we can speak of addiction, in some cases disastrous.

I wish I could have posted this in a more better place but since the thoughts came from gambling addiction, I thought it wise to ask this question over here and I hope we can discuss and get this straight.

Just as the tittle already ask, I really want to know if people who are successful in gambling also seen as addicts because I believe  for one to be successful in gambling or whatever they choose to do, there must be some good amount  of time and effort invested in it as well as money and we know that a successful  gambler must have invested  both time, effort and even money to make any reasonable  winning  and these also are features of an addict as there are always excessive time spent on a betting site.

Now let's be sincere, will you also classify a successful gambler as an addict?

I've seen successful poker players, one is actually a friend of mine and yes you could say they are also kind of addicted to the game but not to the extent that they cannot sleep over it anymore once they lose. Now, he only plays weekly, and if there's a tournament that will happen. But before that, he goes to the poker room three times a week and I also joined him sometimes. Let's say it's like a training session for him but he was not successful back then, he just keeps on losing although it ain't much money because he doesn't play per table but in small tournaments only where the entrance fee is fixed.
Now, I can see him sharing his recent championship wins and he goes home with lots of money.
Is he a gambling addict? Yes, kind of. I doubt he will stop that hobby of his because he also made friends with most of the players of the poker place.

i'm not sure if my answer has anyone answered but these are just my thoughts.

the word success here in the sense of being a successful gambler who wins big? or successful gamblers can create their own casino?
well, in this case it actually seems contradictory because there are no successful gamblers unless successful gamblers win big and the winning money is used to set up their own casino.
for the successful gambler to me it's just an impossible story because there will always be more lose than win. but as a successful gambler setting up his own casino he is truly a smart gambler taking chances to earn daily and I don't think it's an addiction.

but for gamblers who only hope to profit from betting on gambling, it can be said to be an addict because he will continue to come to gambling to get profits and if he loses will continue to chase his losses.

I do not quite agree with you and believe that gambling addiction appears even during small winnings because at this time there is a release of dopamine in the blood. I don't quite agree with you, I believe that gambling addiction appears even during small winnings, because at this time there is a release of dopamine in the blood. In addition, if you look at the statistics you can see that the number of players who have won the jackpot is much smaller than the number of gamblers who have a gambling addiction.

In my point of view, successful in gambling can be interpreted differently. It can be related to the result (profit/rich) and it can be related to how the gamblers deal with anything they do in gambling. If the meaning of successful is about the 2nd one, it is obvious that it can be seen as addict but if success is all about money/result where gamblers do everything they can until they win, for sure it is an addict.

We are all addicts... I feel I need to share a definition:

Quote
Addiction is when you have a strong physical or psychological need or urge to do something or use something.

So, too much of anything is not a good thing! But that "too much" is not the same for everyone, what is a lot for someone can be almost nothing for others. The conclusion is simple, it's important to know yourself and your capabilities. And that's something we all learn through life, only now that I'm close to 40 I see how crazy I was as a teenager and in my 20s. It's not like I am a lot smarter now, but I am a bit wiser definitely.

Addiction will somewhat have a bad effect on you or the people around you, like if you've been losing a lot of money and you are in debt, but if you're a successful gambler, let's say they are really earning lots of money from it, then they are not referred to as addicted because we know too much is really bad, meaning if they gamble too much, then for sure they aren't successful now, so the possibility that they are just going to gamble is a sure win, like in sports betting, or it is like they will bet in their favor, like they play smartly, though they spend a lot of time on gambling, they are able to control themselves, like they won't chase their losses.

Now let's be sincere, will you also classify a successful gambler as an addict?

First of all it's important to determine what a successful gambler is. For me it's a bit hard to answer such a general question, because there are different so many different types of gamblers. Is it someone who gamblers regularly and makes money from it? Does it have to be his main source of income? Or is just someone who was lucky one time and managed to win a big jackpot? So far I haven't met anybody who uses gambling as his main source of income. If I ever meet someone who gambles 5-6 times per week and makes good money from it then I would call him successful and not an addict. But how likely is this going to be? Casino games are designs so that the player losses longterm, I don't think anybody can constantly win against the casino and make a reliable source of income from it. So if someone gambles a few nights per week and manages to get lucky from time to time winning big jackpots then I would also call him successful. As long as he is in full control of his gambling habits and making money from it, I would call him successful and not an addict. The problem of addiction come when someone can't control himself anymore and his losses are accumulating rapidly without the chance to stop and step away from the casino.

Yes, some people might think that gambling addicts are always people who fail and keep losing as well as frustrated, but behind all that there are also addicts who are considered successful because of luck and he learns from his many experiences playing every time on the gambling platform that makes him an expert at gambling. , but keep in mind that we only found that 0.001% of 100% of all gamblers worldwide are truly successful.

-snip-
That's true but almost all gambling addicts have had crashing edges and have lost a lot of valuable things compared to having the gains that made them successful.
I don't know what to expect, but if you want to be successful from gambling, it's not the right thing to do, so it's better to gamble as it should, namely to seek entertainment and have fun.
When a person has felt the loss of something valuable because of gambling, he can think that gambling is not to gain wealth.

That's just my illustration, because not all gambling addicts fail, some are successful, but very few of what we see, we can even imagine, because gambling cannot be said to be successful for those who cannot control themselves in gambling. Success does not mean winning. a lot of money, but success in being able to control yourself when gambling is already considered a success.

Such a view is only held by someone who does not know this world.

Now let's be sincere, will you also classify a successful gambler as an addict?

Of course not, but successful gamblers only exist in two disciplines, sports betting and poker. There are no successful gamblers who play roulette. With this in mind, we can see cases of people who earn millions and are as addicted as those who earn millions in any other job, working hard.

Gamblers not only win the game with just 1-10 games it takes a lot of games before they manage to hit a very good amount of jackpot that's why could be classified as gambling addiction, the gambler can be just playing if they want or in their leisure time and sometimes on this they cannot fulfill their day that they cant gambling, also there's gambler willing to do things just to get satisfied even though financial status and assets will use just to play gambling. Gambling is all about risk if you cant manage to play gambling with a higher risk you cannot gain a large profit.

In my opinion, successful gamblers should be seen as addicts. If you don't stick to something,it won't come to you. Successful gamblers must have lost a lot of money and won a lot of money at the same time. Seen in my life That guy was totally addicted to gambling. He once gambled and won a lot of money and bought a bike overnight but after one day he sold the bike because he lost in gambling. But he didn't stop gambling. He continued to gamble. He even asked me borrowed money from. He is still gambling. He has now become the owner of a lot of wealth. He has now become a successful gambler. He has become a successful gambler by being completely addicted to gambling. Many people play as a hobby.

I disagree, so I don't consider successful gambler as addict. Maybe them spend some money obviously and in return they could become successful, like maybe in sports betting. But it doesn't mean that they are addicted. There could be individuals who knows the sport and then bet big and then win big as well, hence we can consider it successful gambler. However, they are not that addicted, they just know the game and analyze it to almost perfection and then bet huge money, high risk = high reward attitude.
