Domino’s Is Bringing Its Pizzas Into Augmented Reality With a National Snapchat Campaign
Domino’s is turning its pizza boxes — and the pizzas that go inside them — into an augmented reality campaign.
This weekend, the pizza chain will begin running a national ad campaign that lets Snapchat users play with the platform’s new “shoppable AR” lens.
The feature, which will be available on Saturday, lets users tap a button within Snapchat to quickly order a pizza without leaving the app. The visuals are two-fold: When a person uses the feature on their face, they’ll be wearing a pair of sunglasses, which reflect a pizza in their lenses. However, when the camera flips over, they’ll be able to see a floating Domino’s pizza box that opens to reveal — surprise surprise — a pizza.

Sales of headsets and other augmented reality (AR) devices may have stagnated, but all predictions indicate that the future for AR is bright. Recent research from New York City-based ABI Research earlier this month, for example, shows that with the promise for consumer AR in the coming years, vendors are working on potential applications for the enterprise market too. The report also found that the augmented reality hardware market is ripe for innovation and transformation especially in the diverging capability demands for displays coming from divergent consumer and enterprise requirements.

Marketers cool on VR, shift focus to AR
Advertisers aren’t sold on virtual reality but they are starting to buy into the hype around augmented reality
Sales growth of VR headsets has stalled — 1 million fewer VR headsets were sold last year than expected and, excludingOculus Go, major headset sales were down 50 percent in the first half of 2018, according to SuperData– and advertisers have become more reluctant to spend on the technology. Lego’s head of emerging platforms, James Poulter, said the technology right now is just too expensive for the payoff.

Highland Adds Augmented Reality Tour
James Monroe’s Highland is changing the way people see history.
The historic site has officially launched its augmented reality tour, where you can see people of Monroe’s time interact.
Highland is the only place in country right now offering these hi-tech tours. The presidential estate has been testing out the gear for the last five months.
Visitors simply put on a pair of eye gear that attaches around the head, and use a clicker to go through the tour. The tour is mostly outside, and includes images and animated sequences between people who were alive during Monroe’s time.

The technology changed how an NFL football game is perceived through television. Emmy award-winning Sportvision introduced the yellow first down line painted on the field in 1998, and the game has never been the same. Yet, AR does not only have a transformative impact on sports broadcasting but also on navigation, architecture, tourism, military or healthcare education and all the sub-fields of education in general. The purpose of any invention and technology is to simplify our life and augmented reality is no exception to this rule.

Electricals retailer Currys PC World has become the latest retailer to launch an Augmented Reality (AR) app that allows its customers to visualise more than 800 products — from fridges to televisions and printers — in their home.
The new offering, dubbed Point and Place, has been designed to improve the shopping experience but will also help customers make more informed purchasing decisions — and therefore reduce the risk of returns.

In a paper published entitled “Improving Collocated Robot Teleportation With Augmented Reality“, roboticists from the University of Colorado Boulder are exploring how AR technology will help to keep the working relationship between robots and humans grow through communication.
