when I get mine, I'm probably just gonna offer some btc for a walk-through... Kinda too stupid for anything that isn't a plug in and play usb type deal.

Be A Digital Miner
I would have bought five at the last price but I did not know what it was and was trying to figure on my sheet what the new min bid was.   I thought I was ok for at least two but going through 6 pages of bids in the last 6 minutes is hard.  They would get a higher price if all the people (like me) who were bidding 2 @47 thinking they put them up two levels of current prices actually knew they were "out".
Do not feel that is a criticism of john because he does a great job (especially at 2AM) more of a suggestion that this is not the proper format to auction 300 "mini miners" or whatever the USBs are called

why not run next auction in little bit more professional way. let say use some auction script, when everybody will see bids in real time as well as counts. In present situation people staring posting their bids in last minutes because nobody can scroll trough 5 pages in one minute and get a picture of what is going on.

I'm lost and sad about it, same as many others. I really hope something can be done for next rounds.

I agree, although I thought John K and others did a fantastic job this time, I certainly question some of the wisdom of 1) starting the auction in the weekend and 2) start experimenting with an auction bot in the middle of an auction.

I suggest that before we put the auction bot into production, that we test it thoroughly in a series of simulated auctions first.

Perhaps the idea of pre-approving bidders may work too; if nothing else it would vet who bids so we eliminate fake bidders.

A final suggestion would be to have some kind of auto-bid or proxy-bid, where John K, for example, could hold hidden bids for someone with specific rules for bidding. Let's say user BIDDER wants to bid up to ฿70, start bidding when minimum price exceeds ฿20, and bid ฿1 over current low bid. When first bid exceeds ฿20, John could announce "Bid by proxy for BIDDER: 1@฿21". Later, when ฿21 falls off the list, and let's say the new lowest bid is ฿25, John could again announce "Bid by prody for BIDDER: 1@฿26"

This would put a burden on John, though, so it would require a tip or service fee, but could also ease the frentic last-minute buying and could give people a fair shot up to the level they are comfortable bidding.

Although saying that I think I'd still be more comfortable butchering a laptop adapter like http://www.amazon.co.uk/Desktop-power-supply-cord-120w/dp/B004SRH1PI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1367267668&sr=1-1&keywords=12v+power+supply+10a.

That should work right? Now just need to find some extra cable.

So what are people planning to power these with? I was thinking of getting a beefy laptop adapter and cutting the end off, but I'm not entirely sure how to wire it - all the cases I've seen seem to have something different.

Just get a normal PSU and buy molex splitters and cut the 12v wire off the split ends (leave the 5v safely attached).

So the two yellows into the same port that this guy has a red cable in:

And two blacks into where he has a black.

That makes sense, but then why is he additionally bridging those connectors? Wonder where I can get wire that diameter lose and not on a 30m cable

I totally agree with this.  Even though I didnt bid in this auction, the last few minutes got out of control.  This will be important for the USB miners since it'll be in an affordable range for the majority of bidders.

Be sure to check the actual rating on the rails. If going with an ATX PSU you're probably better off using the PCIe or CPU connectors which typically have a dedicated or at least high-powered rail. Assuming this board needs 80w and connecting a disk/peripheral rail off a cheapo 150w PSU could well end in trouble.
