A final suggestion would be to have some kind of auto-bid or proxy-bid, where John K, for example, could hold hidden bids for someone with specific rules for bidding. Let's say user BIDDER wants to bid up to ฿70, start bidding when minimum price exceeds ฿20, and bid ฿1 over current low bid. When first bid exceeds ฿20, John could announce "Bid by proxy for BIDDER: 1@฿21". Later, when ฿21 falls off the list, and let's say the new lowest bid is ฿25, John could again announce "Bid by prody for BIDDER: 1@฿26"

This would put a burden on John, though, so it would require a tip or service fee, but could also ease the frentic last-minute buying and could give people a fair shot up to the level they are comfortable bidding.

I hope I'm not the only one to say "fuck that idea", pardon my language.

I think having the auctioneer manage your bidding for you is a ROTTEN idea.  If you want to pay someone to bid according to your instructions, fine.  But the auctioneer is the absolute worst person to do this.

It doesn't have to be John, it can be anyone, but it should be a trusted party. However, it is common in other situation to have the auctioneer hold bids, although they tend to be realtime (calling for bids, rather than people submitting them).

1x paper clip
boat load of duct tape to stop me killing myself

I agree with you. I trust John (he has a lot of my coins right now) but I think It would not be transparent in this way.
Today it has been a mess but at least it is transparent.

As a bidder, I thought this was fine.  Better than just sitting on ebay with 0 bids until 5 minutes before the end watching everyone's snipe-bots go to work.

Granted, my last bid was a bit short due to the speed at which things were moving - but I also knew that possibility while placing it.  Had I actually wanted to spend more, I would have Smiley

Congrats to the winners!  Based on my model these guys will all make money, but probably won't get rich any time soon.  Looking at 90-120 day payback based on what I think difficulty is going to do in that time period.  Very tempting to have tossed in that last few coins per unit, but you make models and rules for a reason Smiley

Should anyone want to pick up 2 blades: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.1979280 I plan to be the first winner paid.  Grin

Yeah.. go fuck yourself. I understand what you are doing is fair and legal but the sentiment stands.

They broke a cardinal rule of auctioneering; Not immediately allowing a buyer to pay.
Your sediment notwithstanding,  I'll manage to stay afoot.

For those that didn't win, you may want to consider getting som AM shares while you're waiting for the next auction. Both BTCT.co and Bitfunder offers PT shares and there are sometimes auctions for regular shares too.

Here's a guide I wrote earlier:

Disclaimer: I'm a current share holder and benefit directly from a high share price.
