As I've said here many times before, "underage" gambling is not a serious issue here in the United States.  A number of factors make this so, but for the most part, kids don't have the money or desire to spend much of their time gambling.  Even when Poker Stars got big when I was in early college years, only a small % of peers my age spent time gambling.  Most often they would play $100 here and there and sit in poker tournaments for hours on end, more so having fun than losing money hand over fist.

I've been gambling since I was 7-8, play "War" with my grandma and grandpa for soda or candy.  I'd play blackjack with my dad for fun and never got serious until @mofough82 taught me how to play Texas Hold'em in our late college days.  I was hooked, but never did I nor any of my buddies get in to financial trouble over it.

I do not encourage underage gambling because as I child or an up growing baby Which is between 12-14 shouldn't be allowed to gamble, and at first place how did gambling site permits him to make account to start gambling. Maybe how did local gambling site allow him to start going inside to make bet because usually non of that age bracket should be allowed to gamble or even allowed to enter inside the gambling hall to start making bet.

Like I know most of the gambling house do have security to restrict such age bracket to avoid underage gambling, most times the security guard doesn't allow most people to pass without having to show their identity to prove if they are above 17-18 years.

Smart teenagers will find a way to gamble if they want to, they have different prohibitions, but this does not mean that all of them are obedient and do everything as they are told. I don’t know, I don’t support teenagers gambling, but I also don’t think it’s something very bad, maybe because I first made a bet a few years before I came of age, and I don’t regret it, I liked it and I could only play with my pocket money, besides, at first I was just lucky and I even won, then I lost, but I learned this lesson with little money and realized that everything is not so simple there.

You know, I recently read about Elon Musk's childhood. So, at the age of eleven, he learned about a computer and begged his father to buy him one, to which his father responded extremely negatively, assuring him that he would be busy with useless toys that the computer had. Elon earned money for a computer  himself as a child, and yes, at first he was into games... And here it is worth stopping and returning to the teenager that the OP described. What is wrong with him? Yes, now is a different time, but there are still people who strive to learn, realizing that the more they can do, the better their demand can be. But others, for some reason, came up with the idea that they would be able to become rich one day by winning a big prize. Eight thousand bucks can be lost very quickly. But how long will it take for this boy to earn it himself? Therefore, we need to explain to our children that the amount of money itself is a temporary phenomenon until you know how to manage it correctly.

I cant say clearly when I started to gamble first time. I vaguely remember that I played blackjack with my father when I was young. When I got older I understood that the purpose of that game was to test my basic math skills. I remember someone of my relatives inserted coins into a slot machine and let me push spin button. It was more for fun, as we were passing by that slot machine and though about giving it a try. I remember playing poker when I was in university. Buy-ins were symbolic, and with friends, we also used to play free tournaments. Probably age of 19-20 was the moment when I made my first bet.

Is there any benefit that comes with starting gambling at a very young age?
The only benefit that doesn't outweigh the risk that I can think of is that if a person starts to gamble at such a young age, they would have had enough experience before adulthood. And this experience will also mean experience in anxiety, depression, and poor mental health because gambling would have broken you, and the losses both in the game and in life with academics would be too much for a young person at that age to handle.

It also goes to show the importance of investment in the educational systems of countries. These are countries that fall in the developing and underdeveloped categories. Public schools for less privileged families with kids who have dropped out should be made available for them to enroll in for free so as to discourage them from engaging in any social vice of which gambling at that age is one that can lead to serious addiction that even guardians and parents may not be able to control.

Is there any benefit that comes with starting gambling at a very young age?

I did start to indulge in gambling activities when I was almost through with college and it was because I had friends who were into it and did so frequently that I often times accompany them to the centre to place a bet or gamble.
I knew they risks involved upon losing as I participated and while I had nothing else to do after graduation, I had all the time to try out gambling activities just for the fun of it and as a talking point when am around like gender who have interest in gambling and its related activities.

Child gambling is bad and it is left for the society and government to enact some rules and agencies that would check such underage gambling activities inorder to help reduce crime and protect the national economy from waste and deficit.

If I remember precisely, I started to gamble when I was in university. I think I would be around 21 or 22 years of age around the time. I was able to use my blackberry phone at the time to gamble as I was able to use it to easily to access the gambling sites at the time.

Is there any benefit that comes with starting gambling at a very young age?
What I think that matters is to begin to gamble at 18+. If you are 18 years old or older, it is not bad to gamble but it is good to do it responsibly.

Xup ladies gents, it's a genuine question..

At what age did you start gambling and how was the experience?

You may likely want to find out why I am asking this question, well, today, I came across someone, a younger teenager who should be around 12 or 13, but he claimed to be 14, we got talking like we friends not minding I am very much older than him (my first daughter is 8 already)..

He's a school dropout, jobless, and claim to have lost over $8000 to gambling ever since he started, he's into crypto, so yeah, he said he plays mostly on crypto casinos online.

We've discussed extensively about underaged gambling on this board, but today, I was very surprised coming across this teenager who is already ruining his life with gambling at such a young age, I felt pity for him and very angry with him at the same time...
I asked if he has any investment in crypto or else where, he said no, that he is always gambling with any money comes his way... Is this a way to a good life?

Is there any benefit that comes with starting gambling at a very young age?

I personally knew gambling when smartphones and internet networks first entered my country and at that time I was about 20 years old, previously in the my country, especially the province where I was born and lived all this time, gambling was something very prohibited and even those who were caught gambling would be punished customarily, so indeed gambling was very difficult for us to find at that time,  But the entry of smartphones and also the internet has certainly changed everything today although the customary law is still in force but at least we can still gamble online with maintained privacy, about the teenager you said, I think Gambling at a young age can be very destructive, both financially and emotionally, teenagers who are involved in gambling often do not have a sufficient understanding of the risks involved and can easily trapped in a cycle of addiction, So very important for our family, friends and environment to protect them from current gambling exposure.

I don't quite remember my age when I first gambled but I think that I was around 15 years and I learnt a big lesson about gambling that day. I went for scratch and win games that some local guys do, I wanted to win a ball, but I lost the whole money that I had scratching. I learnt a big lesson that day and I never gambled again till I became an adult, I'm lucky because that early experience shaped me to gamble responsibly today. Probably if I had won that ball, it would've prompted me to continue gambling then, and the experience would've made me to continue. I was lucky to lose and quit that time, other people that tasted gambling early don't have a good story to tell today, some are probably addicts now.

When I was kid (early elementary school) there were many stores around me where they sell candies with a chance to win prizess such as toys, books, and some other things. It works like a lottery because the candies come with hidden number and if we got a number matched to prize, we win it.  My friends and I liked to buy it almost every single day because we wanted the prizes and most of us did not care about the candies. Can we call it as gambling? Wink If it can be called as gambling, so I started gambling maybe at 7-8 years old Smiley

The age you mentioned is the one we can be sure that they are not suitable for gambling. They are spending that money on gambling without permission of the family. On the one hand, these children are losing money and at the same time they are destroying their lives. Moreover, if they become addicted, it is difficult for them to recover from that situation. That is why there is nothing positive for those gamblers at every level. The boy has already said that he lost 8kl dollars and obviously this rate will increase more in the future.

When an adult is addicted to gambling, he can come back from there if he tries, but the return is more difficult for the minor. Because that minor gambler will never realize the level of his gambling activities. Moreover, if minors become addicted to gambling, it can also be a threat to their educational stage and career.

There is no benefit in starting gambling at early age. Those that started so early only end up becoming master of addiction/ deptor. I could remember my cousin brother who started gambling at a tender age now he finds it difficult to stay at home due to his Level of commitment in different Dept from different casino. He usually gamble above his discretion and forced to keep any of his belongings before leaving the casino hall. He has sold almost all his property due to gambling including his clothes. All this was as a result of early gambling from Little age. Now he is addicted and leaving it becomes the hardest work ever to do. The more he tries to stop the more he keeps gambling.
This is exactly what happened to me. I became addicted to gambling when I was about 18-20. From then on, I played almost daily. I lost so much money that I could have bought a good used car with it. But this was not a reason to stop my "hobby". After I lost all my money, I started borrowing from friends and acquaintances under various pretexts. I also blew it all down the drain. The time came when I applied for a loan from a bank. Of course, they approved it. What do you think happened to these funds? Exactly. To be honest, I did not expect this from myself. The worst thing happened when my loved ones found out about all this.

16 I think was the earliest? or idk, I forgot what age I was in my 2nd year of highschool. But anyway, yeah, my friends brought a bunch of poker cards and we started playing. At first no money involved, it was just us learning how poker and blackjack worked and the mechanics of it. A week later every game literally had money involved with it lol. Luckily it started there so the money involved was pretty small, nothing more than what I was bringing into school. I'd imagine OPs case to be a lot worse since it's online gambling.

And no, definitely no advantage. It's not something you'd want to do competitively nor does it actually push you to do something past your limits, so no reason to do it really. It's just for fun.

Is there any benefit that comes with starting gambling at a very young age?
It's actually bad to gamble at a very tender age because it makes people lose concentration especially when they knows that through gambling they could hit possibilities and changed their lives at any given time without having to over stress their lives to achieve such goals in real life processes. You know what seriously makes people to start gambling at such age is as a cause of wanting to make some specific amount though gambling. Some could be through friends who are into gambling and he often hears about the information and the amount they often talks about, this could be a major things that stirred him up to start gambling.
Gambling will be big distraction for young people especially students. I know how I feel each time I lose some amount. The feeling is not that good and it can make you lose some level of concentration. So I am wondering how a student reads and understands or even pays attention in class if he had lost so much in gambling. At this age, young people should focus on more important things like their academics, building skills, and developing relationship skills than engaging in gambling.

You are correct. By involving children with gambling at a tender age, they can do a lot of damage to their potential future which parents should take a serious look at. Through the family, children should be aware of their harmful habits and what is the right decision for him and what is positive for him. I think that children need entertainment and along with studies they should focus on improving their mental health through physical activity games and parental encouragement and proper guidance is most important in this regard. With age he may indulge in impulsive gambling but tend to counsel them to get a proper understanding of the pros and cons.

In order to bring up the children properly you should give them a proper understanding of the knowledge of each sector and the tendency to pressurize them not to gamble at all may not be right because after the children cross the age limit they start thinking of everything on their own.

Is there any benefit that comes with starting gambling at a very young age?

No, more like disadvantages. And if someone like me starts betting when he is underage and then as an adult manages to earn money with gambling, for example playing poker as in my case, it is despite having started too early, and not the other way around. Minors should be specially protected from this, and ideally for me in high schools along with a financial education subject there should be some classes to understand how gambling works in general, casinos, sports, lotteries etc.

This is quite an unusual case, a drop out of school having lost over $8000 that's indeed a huge sum he had lost to gambling actually but the question is, how possible that what is said is true and at 14 years like he said what has he be doing that he got all of those money to spend on gambling and at the end lose all of it? I just keep imagining cause it's indeed hard to believe this storyline.

I have similar case of that kid. I started gambling below my 16 years and was still in the basic high school.
It started as a friendly gaming activity amongst friends and we bets what is affordable to loose such could be eatable, funds or unvalued materials such as toys.

It was specifically the cards and diles games to it calls attractions of others to join since it was a public game that can be played in the school and at home.

Then we had to increase our wagers by what is seemed u affordable to loose and it was then we realized that we were really gambling because it affected most of us that we used our school schemed funds to gamble, lost them, some get dropped out of school because parents were disappointed of us.
Then I furthered to play on online gambling with the believe that I am experienced enough to escalate my gambling to a higher level.
The. Gambling became part of me with addiction but I was able to help it out in the past years.

Everything here reminded me of the outcome of elderly ones gambling or having attractive discussions in the present of the younger (underaged) kids because it can be deceitful.

I don't know the exact age I started gambling, all I can say is that I only placed my first bet when I was in the university. This time, it was even my second to the last year, so I was so mature then. I've always known about gambling at 11 years old but I saw it as an ignoble line that I should not cross even without anyone advising me against it.

I don't think so, young children should focus on their studies and continue to strive to build a bright future for themselves, not gambling.
