Most people I've talked to here are very aware of the "Icelandic example" of how to rid finance of corruption but jailing bankers won't do that and iceland hasn't achieved that yet. the only thing that will do that is if each individual strives to contract with crypto currency in your day to day transactions. I now buy my clothes and pay for coffee at my favorite cafe in bit coin. This is one of the best things you can do for aurora coin, approach a retailer that you shop at regularly and give them a wallet that you can send auros to when you buy something. But the biggest opportunity I have found here for auroracoin and general crypto is solar Power. This entire festival is powered by one guys solar rig. I've introduced him to auroracoin and pointed out to him that he can monetize his surplus by mining auroracoin from his solar rig. He has enough surplus solar to power a mini mining warehouse. I've handed out a hundred wallets so far and have each person in a mailing list.

This is awesome grass roots work. Keep it up!

Great idea for the solar power guy too.

Maybe even being part of it somehow.

This is one of the things that got me interested in AUR.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Icelandic_financial_crisis_protests

These particular words help me believe that Auroracoin could fit in well......

"its impact should not be under-estimated. One important development in its wake, and an important emerging theme for further research, is a series of experiments with direct democracy and social media"

There are a lot of things to be sad about the crash but what is most inspiring is that people woke up!

People wanted to change the system and honest efforts were made to implement ideas like direct democracy. For example we elected a constitutional council via direct democratic elections and this council wrote a new constitution for Iceland.

The sad part is that the government that was elected after the crash, the two socialists parties in Iceland, didn't have the guts to implement the new constitution nor the direct democratic process for parliamentary elections.

Now on the other hand there is hope for ideas such as direct democracy, since the Pirate party in Iceland has had this on it's primary agenda.

NB. the Pirate party is a new political force in Iceland still recent pools show them with up to 35% of the vote. My interpretation of this huge change in the political landscape in Iceland is that people have had enough. They thought things would change after the crash but now after seeing the old political parties take power again they are willing to try something completely new and different.

Not that I know what the Pirate party leaders are thinking but I have a feeling that Crypto currencies can play a role in how they see the financial future of Iceland.

It occurs to me that in a country of 330,000 it wouldn't be very difficult for the average citizen to get involved in a political party and make an impact. Is anyone here who a member of any Icelandic political party?

With elections next spring, do you think there is a way to make sure cryptos are discussed ?

Quite honestly I think, just as software developers and cryptologists aren't any better at central planning (or more resistant to corruption) than central bankers, the pirate party dudes may have fresh minds and lots of idealism, but will be subverted and assimilated and in the end be just the same as the politicians before them.

I believe the people need to take matters into their own hands instead of "hoping for the next election". Crypto (-currency) will not magically solve all our problems, but it's a huge tool that will help us tremendously. Incidentally this is one of the reasons I think Auroracoin is such an important and interesting experiment: it's a test balloon. If this flies in Iceland, there is hope for the world.

Of course I agree: it would be awesome if cryptos where a topic in the media before next elections in Iceland.

You may provide them with some AUR link !

Let them know what is being built as we speak, etc.

There is a huge difference between knowing the word ''auroracoin'' and knowing what is realy going on.

Adamastor, that sounds awesome. I have a question: what percentage of people at learning man do you expect to have smart phones?

Another question to the developers: I have this old Auroracoin Android wallet on my phone... Version 1.1.1 it says. Can I still use that? Is / will there be there an update?

Most people will have smart phones yes but I'll be distributing paper wallets.

What's a good mobile phone wallet I can send people to?

Ltex that donation is not showing up, did you get my private message??

looks like the the block is stuck at 187985

The wallet should still work on the network.  However, the mobile wallets are a huge focus for us right now, as we need to address the airdrop recipients that probably still have the original mobile wallet.  We need to get that squared away so we can continue all wallet development.

Keep your eyes peeled for announcements about this.  Once everyone comes back from Christmas with their families, we'll be putting some time into mobile development.
