I bought a Avalon Nano 3 without the PSU, there wasn't an option on the indego site to purchase it with a PSU at the time. But I am having trouble sourcing a PSU for it, initially I bought a Lenovo LEGION what I thought was a 170W USB-C wall charger but realized 1. The sellers who said it was 170w lied and its a 135w, and two the pictures show it with a USB-C to USB-C cable but it came witha USB-C to Lenovo yellow connector power cable. Yes when I try it with my Samsung laptop USB-C to USB-C cable or my Samsung S24 Ultra cable (the cable I use) the Avalon tells me the PSU is not supported.

I have ordered a couple of cheap options off Amazon to try later today, including a connector that converts the Lenovo yellow connector to a USB-C just case in case the cables I have are the problem.

I would like to see those who have purchased a PSU outside of Conaan Avalon what worked for you.

Thanks,

the fact they make like $0.15 per day

last time i hired an engineer from that part of the world, it cost $75k annual. cheaper than other places, but the 15 cent myth is something i've not been able to replicate.

I could bust out the watt meter and see what power consumption it's using if nobody has numbers for that yet.

that would be interesting.

if you think you can do better there are many open sources that you can improve on and where you could make your contribution.

that would be a worthwhile suggestion if my 25 year contribution wasn't already out there.

as for Canaan's shipments, we just have to compliment them on the excellent logistical work they are doing with thousands of orders in a short time!

you may compliment them if you like. i found the 22 email "updates" each containing excuses like "we were on holiday" or "we will do better this week", not to be compliment worthy. for me, they fell more into the underwhelming category. i'll save my compliments for people who keep or exceed the promises they make. companies that already have a successful manufacturing and distribution network, but choose to launch a new product on a crowdfunding platform where late delivery excuses are the norm, are not in a category that warrants compliments from me.

  • the shipping logistics are sub-par.
  • shipping devices that all have the same factory root password in 2024 is lazy at best, willfully negligent is more likely.
  • a "factory reset" that does not reset the pool configuration is sub-par.
  • the firmware's tendency to change or corrupt the root password frequently, is unacceptably sub-par. i've had both of mine for a week. their credentials have each become corrupted 3 times in that short timespan. that's just pathetic.
  • when i buy a device that has an ssh server set up and running on it from the very first boot, i want to have access to the credentials that ssh server accepts and i want to be able to lock people who are not me, out of that device which i own and which runs on my network. i don't want unknown persons to retain valid credentials for that device. nano 3s are shipped with a running ssh server whose credentials are not provided in the device documentation. there is no conceivable explanation for this arrangement that puts canaan in a positive light

i have no praise for anyone who delivers sub-par, but as i said, anyone can compliment them if they're happy to spend their money on sub-par.

i think deliberate mischief on canaan's part is unlikely. my own experience of these devices is that a higher than acceptable amount of stupidity went into their production. i agree with hanlon. they're not malicious, they're stupid.

There is probably a backdoor in the firmware. An attacker can change the custom root password (no, it's not root in my case, it's a complex one) or there is a manufacturer password.  Stay behind your firewall and do not open any ports to the outside.
i have two nano 3s. both of them often become inaccessible with the password i set them to. the only way to log in to them, when this happens is to reset to the root/root credentials that canaan ships them with, then change the password again. i haven't yet seen the pool address change or anything like that. mine sit behind a regular home router without any port forwarding so i'd be surprised if someone other than canaan is responsible for the password changes. there's no way to reach them from outside of the home router.
if someone is hacking these boxes, then my money is on canaan or one/some of their engineers doing it with dodgy firmware. they're just not reachable from outside of the home network, so the only way to mess with them is from the firmware. since i've never seen a pool address change happen, it looks more like crappy firmware corrupting the root password than an actual hack.
hanlon's razor admonishes: never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. given the incompetence of the canaan team in predicting shipping dates, it's not hard to imagine they have a whole stupid farm also working on their firmware.

I highly doubt anyone from canaan is hacking these miners. Aside from the fact they make like $0.15 per day, they’re still just getting started selling them. A scandal like this would set them back as a company more than they could ever make from hacking these boxes. More likely in my opinion is user error.

Edit: After 24 hours I'm seeing (on medium speed) 3.186TH/s.

I could bust out the watt meter and see what power consumption it's using if nobody has numbers for that yet.

If I were the administrator of this group I would have already banned you for the nonsense you are saying about Canaan.  if you think you can do better there are many open sources that you can improve on and where you could make your contribution.  as for Canaan's shipments, we just have to compliment them on the excellent logistical work they are doing with thousands of orders in a short time!

I received my Avalon Nano 3 today.  The packaging has serious iPhone vibes.  Got it all setup and running pretty easily.  You just connect to it as a wifi network from your phone and add your wifi details as well as your braiins pool username using their app.  Probably the most simple setup of any miner ever.

The app leaves some room to be desired, but it does the job just fine.  My only real gripe is that the only way (I'm aware of) to monitor the miner temps/hashrate is to look at the log in the miner settings.  I assume this will be turned into a decent display soon enough as the data is there.

After only about 10 minutes of mining, I'm showing temps of around 40 degrees, a fan speed of around 42%, and a hashrate of around 2.91TH/s.  Poolside is showing a hashrate of 3.19TH/s, but it's still early.  This is using the "Medium" heater control settings.

The miner is also very quiet.  It is in the room with me now and I can't hear it over my home's air conditioner.

Once this has had a day to run I'll update with better information.  If anyone has any questions for me, let me know.

I just received the email telling me that my miner has shipped. Pretty exciting. I haven’t mined sha256 for a while now it feels like so I’m anxious to see how much better the experience has gotten. I guess I’ll be able to give my feedback on it soon enough. Is there a suggested pool that these perform better on?
can you tell us when did you purchase it and which model? With or without psu?

I ordered around mid-April, so it's been just over two months.  I went with the model that included the power supply because I didn't want to take any risks with something not performing as expected.  I also went with the black model because I saw somewhere that those were maybe shipping faster...  Anyway, I received the tracking number for my order and it is officially en route.  The expected delivery date is next Friday, so next weekend I should be hashing away.  Will report back.

LOL.  In spite of my signature advertiser I am not much of a gambler in real life.  When it comes to mining I like to stack my sats.  I'm hoping that getting this going on a sha256 pool will give me the itch to grab a new Antminer or something when the weather cools down.  I also saw the announcement of the new Braiins BMM 100 miner which the Avalon Nano 3 seems very competitive with on paper.  Interestingly, I noticed on their website they're pitching it as a "modern day lottery" device.  Maybe that's what these types of miners need to go mainstream.

Hi,
I removed the grid but the temperature decrese because there are the two fans of 120...

Its a bad case and Its difficult to develop a good fans system...

I think that the software should improve the fans configuration with a manual setup because now the Speed Is too low!

did you pull the front and back grills to get those temps?
if you have the grills in place could you pull them to see if temps drop lower?

An email just went out from indiegogo saying the next batch of orders are going out next week. I believe mine will be included in this batch so I’m looking forward to checking out the Nano 3. I have high expectations as there are not too many available options for users looking to mine with 110v electricity these days.

Hi,

Let's clarify one thing straight away, I don't need clicks because I'm not an influencer for a living! OK?

Well, like all the members of this forum I am a simple mining enthusiast but I am also an electrical engineer!

So let's explain what happened...

...My problem was a chip near the USB-C broken, probably when I tried to open the case...
Even though I was very careful it still broke!

>>>>>>>   SO I RECOMMEND YOU DON'T DO IT TOO! <<<<<<

https://www.directupload.eu/file/d/8584/qcgrvxzz_jpg.htm

This chip its a bobine-regulator and the solder is back not from side (L/R) and also its on a point
very bad if you move the USB-C probabily broke this chip!

I have ordered other on USA from DIGIKEY here

https://www.digikey.it/it/products/detail/w%C3%BCrth-elektronik/74438367047/11657931

Anche replace it...

https://www.directupload.eu/file/d/8584/92wzep2s_jpg.htm

Also I do some modifications...

like some heatsink...

https://www.directupload.eu/file/d/8584/xcwqu736_jpg.htm

Enlarge the usb hole..

https://www.directupload.eu/file/d/8584/6q2waq7w_jpg.htm

https://www.directupload.eu/file/d/8584/4h6u9lxq_jpg.htm

various fixes..

https://www.directupload.eu/file/d/8584/ee5hsen4_jpg.htm

https://www.directupload.eu/file/d/8584/m48e6fjb_jpg.htm

Also I try an ALTERNATIVE PSU like this BASEUS 28V 5A (on Amazon)

https://www.directupload.eu/file/d/8584/wwx5kmbd_jpg.htm

I'll add more details as soon as I can
