Except for counterparty, agree that these alts are going to be around and strong in 2017. Doge is always dear to me, I just like its playful theme.

But as investments? I couldn't say I'd feel strongly about any except bitcoin itself.

Bitcoin - not an altcoin but i may have the next big pump next year

Monero - The true fungible cryptocurrencie

Ethereum - if it can survive all the forks may be the best option for Smartcontracts, but im not sure :\

Gulden my friends , Gulden.

Gulden is taking crypto 2 years into the future with the 1.6.0 update this week. The only downside of Gulden is no real marketing but the development team behind it is on fire!

https://developer.gulden.com/

This update will wipe out the rest of alt coins that are still copy and paste of bitcoin QT wallets.

1)  AMP for some reasons: current price (~14k sat) is under the Last crowdsale price (33-40k sat), lots of work will be done through 2017 (you can see their Roadmap on https://blog.synereo.com/2016/09/15/synereo-dev-timetable-2017-2018/.

2) NAV: Nav is undervalued at the moment. This is an Anon coin with only 1.9 M marketcap and the team is going to complete some huge projects during dec 2016 - 2017 http://navcoin.org/projects. If this coin will be implemented in some stores (if you know what I mean Wink ) the price will skyrocket.

3) SNLGS tokens: Tokens from SinguralDTV project. One of the ICO of 2016. Raised something like 7.5M$ in 30 minutes. For me this tokens is a good choice for some reasons: price at the moment is under the ico; SDTV will launch products starting from 2017. Tokens will Pay dividends in ETH.

4) (maybe?)  I'm a Digibyte fan and I hope to see DGB in top10 currencies someday during 2017. Imo most undervalued coin in circulation.

I Mentioned AMP, NAV & SNLGS because I think they are coins that can at least increment their price by +300% during 2017.
There are other good projects in the forum. and I keep eyes on other coins, too.

Synereo and SNGLs are both steal to any investors that can get hold of both now, both are trading at 60% below their ICO price presently.

Well to answer this, I've gotta question first: As I am a novice to this world: What are some of the criteria that are to be looked at to judge or analyze the future of a crypto currency or altcoin?
Are there any?

Do research, see if the community is active, development is active and the coin has credibility. Everyone here giving you advice will be bias towards the coins they have invested in. I will tell you to invest in Gulden but that's because I truly believe in the project but it doesn't mean you or anyone else should. Do what you think is right for you and see if the coin you invest in can backup the hype with past releases.

Crypto is 99% talk but most of the time the talk is never implemented into the code. This is why I like Gulden, they deliver without the talk/hype.

Bitcoin agreed 100% maybe Counterparty but others seem they will continue their bearish trend especially Doge and Peercoin, there is no use case for the two, I don't see where they both fit in presently. The landscape is change fast in Crypo and the next trend will be dividend paying project, ICONOMI fits this criteria, a solid team behind it and know how to get what they want

What is in your opinion the best altcoin to invest in for 2017 and please add why. Cheesy

I'm mainly in Peercoin and Novacoin at the moment, I think they might get good traction, development is continuing properly and release of PeerAssets soon may give it a boost.

*** I do not recommend to invest in any mentioned coins without proper research, how it was launched, how it developed, community involvement, adoptionrate, price history and volume, etc.
So do your own homework cause you're the ONLY ONE responsible for your funds.

*** No need to say these threads are useless, it's been said a hundred times. Apparently other people do like to read and write about this so please skip if you have no interest.

I am still waiting for 1-10 sat Gulden that your promised.  Cry Cry Cry

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.7838531

Anyways never take anyones word for how a coin will perform in the future, if I listened to BTCat I would never have invested in Gulden... oh and... they the only coin that is delivering on their roadmap. 1.6.0 out this week.

Agree, I like to read what other people are interested in investing - and appreciate this thread - but agree that you have to sift through the coin - thanks for setting it up BTCat - lets see what 2017 brings us =)

I use these threads to identify scamcoin shills. Smiley

IMO the public at large is finally realizing that fungability is the most important feature in a crypto currency even though they still don't know what the term means. Lol

NEM.
Why?

* Serious partnerships are well underway in Asia with dragonfly fintech and Mijin.
* Apostille - The only 2nd generation blockchain notarization app.
* Catapult is offering the fastest TPS of any other blockchain, speeds approaching visa, due to launch in 2017.

The above is only a handful of reasons to look into NEM
