The most powerful and powerful competitor to Ethereum I think XRP, then they can become competitors of the next coin EOS, BCH, XLM, they are gaining popularity and may become a serious competitor to Ethereum.
For now, I think ethereum has no competitors at the moment though there are good potential coins who have bright future to follow ethereum.
Right now, the best competitors for ETH are Cardano and NEO. These two coins are growing at a rapid pace and in the near future we can expect them among the top 5 cryptos. Other platforms such as Stellar and Quantum are also good.
Ethereum is a very good coin of crypto world. It comes second in rank after bitcoin. People have full trust on it. There are many competitors in market but bitcoin is a main competitor. I think no one can replace the position of bitcoin because it is a founder of crypto world.

Ethereum is one of the famous cryptocurrency in the crypto world. There has many competitor of it in the marke but for me its best competitor is Bitcoin. Especially i the Bitcoin price is fall then the ethereum is good and many people trade it. Well, I think Ethereum is goal to defeat Bitcoin in its rank because even though it is volatile when it comes to price still it is in the number 1 rank position.
Many people said ICON is the first competitors after the Ethereum. The sequence will bitcoin, ethereum and ICON. But that's all is prediction, no one knows what will happen in future.

I think the best competitors of ethereum should come from different types of blockchain and not of those that are ERC-20 compliant. But in the price sense, more ERC-20 tokens are actually valued so much like ethereum and still have an impact in the market.

Actually, I don't see any competitors to Ethereum but probably EOS and Tron can jump and chase it. However, it won't overtake ETH anyway. You said cardano and IOTA, really that a shit to eth, no chance.
I think EOS and NEO are really good projects and their future is quite bright. However, reaching Ethereum level is not possible for any of them.
The so-called Ethereum competitors are all dependent on the ICO market, and they are not any comparison now, because the ICO market has become very bad, no matter how good the application can not quickly change the status of ICO!
