Meh.
I just assumed that the "1" spot on your bench would be the first sub no matter what (even to the point of changing your formation).

I think he was referring to the numbers next to the positions, i.e. the 1., 2., and 3.

You switch these however you want - but as Trofo explained, in order for it to work, some formation rules have to be met.
In his situation, if a midfielder or striker in the first 11 would not play, a midfielder would be the 1st sub. But in case a defender does not play, it has to take the defender from the bench because 253 isn't a valid formation.

RE Odegaard - I expect a lot of points from him this season.

So the conclusion is that every manager should leave at least 1 player from each position on the bench for effective substitutions.  Isn't it?
No, the conclusion is to optimise first 11 and order them in best possible formation for you. That is 3-5-2 for me. Then you order bench to maximize points if something unexpected happens. In my case that is one world class extra defender. Due to my formation he will enter no matter which position in first 11 drops out.

Aren't you all seeing the same on your bench as I am?

Nope, bench is made of players not in your initial lineup. Initially you choose 2 GK, 5 DEF, 5 MID and 3 ST players, and then put them in the desired formation.

Based on your benched players, you're playing in a 343 formation - leaving 1 GK, 2 DEF and 1 MID on the bench.
I'm playing in 352, meaning that I have 1 GK, 2 DEF and 1 ST on mine.

If somebody is playing 451, he'll have 1 GK, 1 DEF and 2 ST on the bench, etc.

I think he was referring to the numbers next to the positions, i.e. the 1., 2., and 3.

Anyway, I wonder if Saka will have a scoring spree and for how long it will last.

It's too early to regret anything but hopefully I get a few penalties and assists out of Odegaard.

So this post I made yesterday was not enough for you guys or you did not read it? It really is quite simple, your subs are going into the game by the order they are sitting on the bench, only thing when some player will get skipped is if it breaks formation. You must have at least 3 def, 3 mid and 1 striker at all times, so if you play with 3 defenders, your sub will be defender even if he is not first placed.

It makes more sense now, but the FPL rules never really clarified which bench player is your "first sub" which is what caused all the confusion I guess, but at least it's clear to me now.

Automatic subs happen at the end of each GW. So it will happen for you maybe 2 hours after United finishes tonight. Just the way game works.

Ah great. And which player will be picked? The one who is listed as 1. DEF on the bank in this example?
That is more complicated. Your first sub will be picked if he doesn't break formation rules.

Example: you started with 3 defenders and your first sub is forward, he will be skipped and your first defender sub will get in.

But if you started with 4 at the back, than your first sub will be picked even if he was striker. Hopefully it is clear enough for you. If not, post screenshot and I will tell you who will enter for you.

Lol That's because Cash was his first substitution choice; I had Cash as well, but Kabori with 1 point replaced Stone instead.

I remember hitting under 30 in my first season last year. Lol It's gotten better since then.

So that means the substitutions are applied from left to right of the bench? That would explain why Darwin didn't come up for me.

I think (and I'm not 100% sure) I had Mings placed right next to the backup goalkeeper, on the second-left, so that must explain why he got swapped in on my squad LOL.

Logical that's how it works because Kabori was placed before Cash on my bench. This substitutions rule is something I need to know how it works so that I may know how to place my players on the bench.

Price rises! Isn't this too early?

After watching Manchester united defense last night I'm convinced that Onana will not last in my team.

You can't make this shit up guys:

This is a squad I found on the internet, with 97 points, but the automatic substitution system took out Stones, and put Matty Cash (who has -1 points) in his place!

Is the substitution system not supposed to work in your best interest or something? I dunno  Huh

I just want this game to be done with already let me see the point gaps. Don’t just know how you guys are still having players yet to feature in GW1.
I still have three bullets to bank on; Martinez, Casimero and Fernades. I expect top performance from these players later today and hope that Onana will not decide to be a midfielder today again instead of a goalkeeper. They should be able to win the game and keep a clean sheet.

Does anyone have Sterling on their team? Cheesy It looks like he is also one player for Chelsea that his experience is going to be heavily depended on in this young Chelsea team. I think if he does not get injured this season, he will play many games for Chelsea and score some goals too.
I always knew Onana was good and he yet again proved himself with his first clean sheet in the EPL and could well better the Manchester United side from a goalkeeping angle. No wonder his preferred by many already.

Well, it’s all done now and it seems your prices Martinez managed to earn you nothing, lol… I feel your pain bro but, you got an average from B. Fernandes and Casimero gave what Casimero can give. Well, at times Casimero can come up with some surprising goals but, his not a midfield to keep, trust me. He handles the dirty jobs for Manchester United and that means, plenty of yellow cards to come and so, having him on your team is a risk and some promised points deduction, I don’t look forward to that, nope.

Trofo bangs his first on the sheets for GW1, enjoy it man, we go again in GW2.

Thank you very much for your offer however I'm not going to be able to accept it. To be honest you are the last person I would like to take on in FPL now.  Grin But if cryptofrka offers me then I would absolutely accept him.

Hahah, never for fantasy. I'll probably stop playing in a month or so Grin
Don't be afraid of Trofo though. Rise up to the challenge!

Considering that I went without Haaland (and that everybody and their mothers have him as a captain and he scored 2 goals), I'm quite ok with my mid-table start.
If I get Haaland wrong I'll lose any bet for sure - and it's expected I'll get him wrong. Still - much more fun playing without him.

I'm really sorry to hear about this. I was thinking that we were going to compete against each other in a great way. Grin I don't think that I'm ready yet for challenging someone of whom I read the articles every week to learn the game last season. Cheesy Even being able to be close to Trofo by collecting 79 points this week is a big success for me.

Not exactly a complete disaster for me after all, 39 points in an average 55-point week (I've no players except Mount in tonight's game), with Wilson, Bowen and March giving me some points -- the challenge for me now is to rebuild this horrible team -- take some early penalties and be done.

James only getting 2 points feels like a bummer, watched the game and he was at least 9/10 for me (and I'm a Liverpool guy).

This is what happens setting picks in a rush on bad internet on phone... I swore I played Maddison and Ederson (who on heart would put Raya over Ederson and then vice him? I swear FPL bugged out on me here and benched these guys...

@cryptofrka: More fun sticking with Nunez as captain =D

This Manchester United-  Wolverhampton match seems to favor Wolves from how the game is currently  going,  and at the rate the Yellow cards are being produced I fear for anybody waiting to scorepoints from this game as this looks like a low scoring game and if player doesn't  score points on the pitch.. expect a negative to come from the clumsy approach these guys keep displaying here..maybe the rains aren't helping  the lads Roll Eyes

Mbeumo is another player to put on watchlist.

I thought you would've bought Mbeumo by now, if not already?  Huh

Not the right time-

Man you have two Crystal Palace defenders in your lineup, Mings on your bench is out for months and next Crystal Palace game is against Arsenal. Your end is here.

Actually I am not so concerned about my defense, Crystal Palace are notorious for their goalless draws and clean sheets against lower teams, Stones is match-ready and travelled with the City squad for the Super Cup (collective sigh here I guess) and Kosna is decent, but unfortunate to face a Newcastle attack on fire.

It is unfortunate that Palace is facing Arsenal next week, but they have a favorable run of fixtures after that.

I'll deal with Mings later, I want to see how the other defenders do first next week before I panick buy.

I'm more worried about my midfield though - Odegaard, Grealish, and Gibbs-White all blanked, so if they don't perform next week I'm going to have the chopping axe ready. Already used my FT to get Isak and save 0.5mil in the process.

(Ps don't say anything about Darwin... he was supposed to be bench material but then Man City fucked up. I know Smiley)
