Hey we still have chilwell and Sterling in the team.
Did you see Chelsea's pre season game against Celtic? It was a pre season game but at least gives an idea of the progress the coach has made with the team. From the result of the game, where Chelsea conceded four goals, it is not good looking for Chelsea's new coach, and shows he still has a lot of work to do in the team.

Whatever Enzo Maresca is doing with Chelsea, he has to do it quickly, their first EPL game next season is against Manchester City.

I fully hate this team hahah. Any sidebets? Grin

You literally stole the words out of my mouth!

I don't know how that team would fare for the long run, I guess I'll bookmark this post and check the total points accumulated by each player here come the end of the season, I already have a good estimate for the like of TAA, Robertson, Salah and Haaland, but as for those differentials, meeh! There are plethora of better options imo, but then also my opinion is why I'm never doing too well here, right  Grin ??!

I perceive FPL and creating drafts as a time killer (and I am often afraid to go to reddit because as soon as I start taking with drafts, I don’t notice how 4-5 hours pass).

Still haven't decided what's better... to have a good defense + haland and salah or to have minimal defense for rotation but strong midfielders and forwards. With the change in scoring rules it's become a dilemma for me.

Robbo is injured for a while.

And why do you still have Turner in your team? Fabianski is a better option.
Feeling a bit of FOMO without my fantasy password. Usually by this time I am already well up in drafts and tinkering with my squad. As it is I didn't even start with the research. Still plenty of time though and early drafts usually don't last with me anyway so no harm done.

I read the new FPL rules and first built the optimal protection in which 3 - 4.5m / 2 - 4m. But I came across an interesting and rather logical post on Reddit, and decided that we all still have to deeply edit our teams in the first five weeks (due to the current uncertainty of the rotation). And I decided to buy expensive players that I could, if necessary, rotate to those I need (since it’s easier to sell a Haaland than to get him when you need him).

Defenders were super nerfed last season by extended extra time, which both reduced shithousery during normal time and provided more opportunities for late goals. Defender value therefore fell off a cliff. The bps changes this season also compound this disadvantage.

That said, FPL pricing is linear, BUT points potential is not. The best value defenders (VAPM) are still the most expensive options at 6M and above (i.e. the outliers underpriced by the linear structure). It is therefore viable (and arguably optimal) to target e.g. a Trent/Robbo/Gvardiol defence for Liverpool's incredible start to the season.

We don't really get to choose, do we?
It's incredible that the club created a situation in which 3 core players have 1 year left on their contracts. Liverpool was doing things the smart way recently, so I have no idea what went wrong.

VVD is nearing an end of his career. He'd be smart to wait before extending - if Slot's Liverpool won't fight for trophies, he might want to go.
Trent is a tricky one - Real has got a super team and he'd fit in well there. I wouldn't want to see him go, but if he doesn't extend we might be forced to sell. Nobody wants a McManaman all over again.

The same mistake was made with Rudiger and Christensen, and while I'm not going to blame the club or the players entirely, both were ready to sign an extension when the whole sanction thing happened; both players were getting close to contract deadlines, clubs couldn't continue to negotiate, and both players had no choice but to leave for elsewhere.

R. James is now out of reach; he is the club's captain, and Real Madrid understands how tough it would be to get a contract following the Kepa situation; they would push hard to get Trent, despite positive negotiations between Trent's agent and Liverpool, but no deal has been reached. Getting near to become the club's second highest earner.

To do that again in the following year would decimate the leadership structure and make it like Chelsea's where their most experienced player is... Reece James who is serving a 3-game ban (wink wink).

Of the trio you mentioned, it is only Salah that I think will leave; Trent may likely leave too because Real Madrid sometimes always get what they want at the end, but for VDJ, Liverpool will make sure not to lose him now that the season is about to start.

We do not sell the captain and the vice captain at the same time, especially after what happened last year after James Milner left on a free transfer and then the club suddenly sold Hendo.

Salah is the simplest one - either he signs a 1y extension or he must be sold.

Not a great situation at the beginning of a new manager's era..

KDB stays- another greedy mistake from Manchester city.
I was beginning to think every player was replaceable for Pep. Why does he not want to let KDB go? because I doubt that the decision to stay was solely made by KDB without any form of influence. Maybe one more dance for the Champions league.

Liverpool cannot afford to lose Trent, Salah, and VDJ in the same window; they must do everything possible to secure Trent on a long-term contract, persuade VDJ to sign a year extension, and release Salah in January, but none of this will happen if there is no transfer ambition.

Means Eze doesn't go to City and mess up everybody's templates!  Smiley

Would be a better deal than Olise but crystal palace are pain in the throat to dela with although Eze would fit more Liverpool, typically Mane kind of player, strong and create chances from nothing.

Yep, agreed - basically on both fronts. We should have sold Salah, we need to sell him this season, if we don't, we won't be able to match the signing on fee he'll receive from Arabia - so we'd lose him for nothing.
I still believe we can get close to 100 mil, for Saudis 10 is the same as 100. I'd actually force them to make a statement out of it, to show the world how rich they are. I'd start the negotiations at 300 million, saying 'make the biggest transfer the world has ever seen'.

Basically dare them into it, there's a decent chance that they'd actually think it is a smart marketing move.

Liverpool has been extremely quiet, with no incomings and no Klopp, so it will be difficult.

Players at his age become greedy and would rather have the signing fees sent to his pocket than to the club; Liverpool should learn from the Mbappe deal; it is too risky to let someone like that run his contract for 12 months. He won't get anywhere near wages he was presented with last season if he decides to go, which is ample motivation to punish Liverpool by walking out for free next summer.

Regarding KDB - I felt this is a blessing in disguise for Pep - he would have got some real hate for forcing KDB out - and he looks ready to be forced out of that team.
I adore the guy, he's one of the best that we've seen in this league, but although statistically still brilliant last season, he did look a step too slow in a lot of situations.

Agreed and I hope we won't get to that. He either signs or gets sold - would be crazy to gamble on him wanting to stay after his contract runs out.
We can't be that stupid, right?

I can't believe Liverpool turned a potential €100m for Salah last season if only they knew he's time was literally off.
It was more than £100 million; Al-Ittihad offered that £100 million just to be paid upfront for him, like an advance.
I feel that offer will be on table every season. Salah is the biggest Muslim player and they will overpay to get him whenever they have the opportunity.
Al-Ittihad have gotten a younger and cheaper alternative, Moussa Diaby from Aston Villa, to fill that position for them, so they may no longer be interested unless they want another option in Salah, of which I am not sure.

Salah may still get an offer from Saudi Arabia—maybe not from Al-Ittihad again—but another club, and I do not think he will be as priced as he was last season. His value, even as the biggest Muslim player, has declined a bit.

Yeah but Salah is basing a lot of his success on physical predispositions and they will not get better. I am expecting only a decline from him as seasons progress. Feels like he is one big injury away from becoming mediocre. I would have taken 100M for him and used that money to strengthen the team even more.

But your point as biggest Muslim player stands and that will mean they can probably always get a lot of money for him.

Physically he's a monster - he'll probably maintain that level for the next 4-5 years.
Injuries should not be taken into equation, Mbappe is 1 ACL tear away from being worth half of his current value.

True, but his contract expires next summer, and his current market valuation is €50m. Liverpool would be extremely lucky to get anything close to that; it's a matter of cashing out on him now or risk losing him for free next year; he wasn't really a part of the team last season, and the few times he did play, he didn't spend much time on the pitch. Salah's biggest strength is pace, and he's getting old for all that running now. He's already 32 years old but a year contract extension won't be a bad idea, enough time to find replacement.

I would have sold him, that is huge money Liverpool can use to grow further, but then again - Salah was one of our better players last season again.

We have a lot of options on the left, not really any viable other than Salah on the right, and especially if Trent chooses to go - without Salah as well that right side would be changed from one of the better ones offensively to God knows what.
