So instead of 8 chips, the single will use 16 chips, it is a nice move that leaves a lot of room for chips. I remember that they said the test for running at 500Mhz is problematic but chips can run stable at 300Mhz, e.g. 4.8GH per chip

I thought people were happy with the 5GH/s product, how come that's not flowing out the door?

The board they used for them were the one that was intended for the 60GH/s singles, they can probably remove a lot of components and scale down the productions costs since they only need to handle 2 chips and 25-30w power draw (see original single vs jally PCB pics they posted last year).

Since they seemingly didn't have that many of the single boards pre-produced it then becomes a question of ordering more of the old ones or wait a while longer for redesigned boards.

There are NO chips more ...

i dont know where the 5000 Chips are gone but BFL doesnt have any more ...

so now i can hope they get more than 1000 ( 1 wafer ) thursday -.-

Any the mystery of the 5000 missing chips is not even explained at all...

other than "oh we dont have the chips anymore..blah blah blah"

Did they ever really have those chips? If they did are they syphoning them off to an undisclosed location to mine secretly adding a small amount of hash to the network over time?

Wouldn't surprise me if BFL resorted to this to get enough capital to fulfill all preorders lol.....scummy fucks  Grin

And they need now double pieces of chip`s for one Unit -.-

THIS ^

If they had a great design why not mass produce it and get something out? Oh wait...that would be too honest of BFL to do given how they continually break promises.

Where is 400 unit every day  Huh.

multiply by 6 for shipping date estimates, divide by 10 for shipping quantity, so far it's been fairly consistent  Grin

little single board looks great.

this thermal design is bad, it means unfortunately most cases will come off, shame with such a cool design!

maybe theres some way to wall off the middle and make each half cool with the horizontal fans only but it looks like the shell will come off for most customers...

lets just pray to god these start without the fans connected, not like some hardware that reads the frequency of the fan and stops if none is found, I think their design is with thermistor though.

Wow, they simplified the PCB a lot. There are half the number of discrete components per ASIC than the previous board!

6 May 2013 ASIC Update

It's been a few weeks since the last update and a lot has happened since then.

As many of you know, we started shipping out a quantity of Jalapeno's (around 35 or so), about half of those went to developers and the media, the other half went to customers. They have been well received so far and everyone is happy with what they have received. In the meantime, we have been diligently working on the Little Singles, Singles and Minirigs.

This past weekend, we received in the new boards for the Little Single, Single and Minirig, pictured below. As you can see, the board redesign incorporates a total of 16 possible chips, as well as some power distribution changes. One of the more prominent changes is the fact that we have moved from barrel jack power to PCIe style Minifit Jr 6 pin connectors. Each board has two 6 pin connectors to provide power, and each board is intended to provide up to 60 GH/s hashing power.

We discovered some issues that we needed to resolve with the boards and had to change a few minor things. We tested them out on a hand modified board and they worked, so we've issued the redesign to the PCB house. The new boards are being finished today, the 6th of May, and should be ready this evening. We have more chips from the packager on the way to the assembly facility, and they should arrive on Thursday, the 9th of May. In the meantime, we will be testing and making sure the new board is functioning like we intend for when the chips arrive to the assembly facility. We don't have a count on the number of chips that will be arriving on Thursday as of yet.

The current board will support the hashrates ordered for Little Single and Single in one box, so single units will be shipped out for both the Little Single and the Single. The Minirig will most likely ship as two units (where as it was just one before) and possibly some Singles to bring it up to the full hashrate ordered. 5 GH/s miner production will continue concurrently with the rest of our product line. We are incorporating some changes into the new 5 GH/s miner to bring the heat and power usage down, and that will be incorporated as we go forward. Power usage on the new boards hasn't been tested yet as we are waiting for the revised board, so I don't have power figures for it yet.

Below is a picture of the new board for the Little Single, Single and Minirig, as well as a Single running.
