Bitcoin: An Idea Worth Spending
I need some clarification on how the Bitcoin 100 funds are used. Until I'm satisfied with the answer I'm not going to be honoring the rest of my pledges.

My problem is with the fact that if we use 100 BTC exactly on each charity, it doesn't actually reflect what people honor per charity. It can lead to a scenario where we have an ever-increasing amount of excess BTC which just doesn't go anywhere, because we only donate 100 per charity, even if we have "per charity" donations in excess of 100 BTC.

This to me is unacceptable. What will it lead to next? The kickstarter starts to invest donated money because they have too much? It's also possible that I'm confused with how this is done, which is exactly why I need some clarification to be able to participate in this anymore.

My wish is that what we donate to these charities accurately represents the donated amount per charity, it's not a good plan to donate 100 BTC per charity regardless of the amount of donations. That I can't be a part of.

Thank you, Technomage, for addressing your concern(s) in regards to Bitcoin 100. My hope is that at the end of my reply, your concern(s) will be addressed to your satisfaction.

My goal for Bitcoin 100 from the get-go was to obtain at least 100 supporters, with the intent of having said supporters honor their stated pledges if or when they see fit, receiving no pressure from Bitcoin 100 to comply. To date, all that has come to fruition: over 100 supporters; over 100 BTC contributed to the pool, albeit some of those donations do carry over to subsequent pool(s); Rassah took time to kindly remind members who have not honored their pledges to date, whereupon the joint, e.g., took action (a second reminder to members who still don't honor their pledges will not be warranted, at least, in re. the first pool).

Even I was taken aback when it was bought to my attention that an amount exceeding 100 BTC was going to be awarded to Group B Strep International, but Rassah was kind enough to shed light on the subject via pointing to the ledger.

That said, we at Bitcoin 100 have done exactly what your post advocates we should do. If you would have had posted that you desired ONLY 100 BTC be allocated to any one non-profit organization, then my reply here would be totally different.

But, the fact of the matter is that an initial 112.854 BTC was sent to GBSI via 1BTC1oo1J3MEt5SFj74ZBcF2Mk97Aah4ac (Bitcoin 100's address), with subsequent bitcoins also sent, as can be seen here. Currently, GBSI has received approximately 130.05405 BTC in donations, to date. Other users of this forum, possibly not members of Bitcoin 100, have kindly donated to that cause as well.

I hope I've addressed your questions and concerns, Technomage, with this reply. Please feel free to question anything related to Bitcoin 100 on this thread or PM me. There will never be anything kept from our members pertaining to Bitcoin 100.

Thank you.

Yay! Sent my 1 for the next charity.

Thank you kindly, JW, for your contribution. I have updated my list in the OP and sure Rassah will reflect this in his ledger.

Is there a way the Bitcoin Snowball and the Bitcoin100 could go into a collaboration of some sort? I wouldn't know how but I'd rather ask than not ask.

Cheers

I think the first Bitcoin Snowball serendipitously worked out quite lovely. For starters, simply state on a regular basis where and how the first snowball ended. After that, keep trusting the users with their decision making. That said, I'll fund the next snowball by depleting an Instawallet account with Balance: 0.1635758 BTC. Who wants it next?

PS: I may be double posting, for I rather address Technomage's concern separately.

Group B Strep International (GBSI) with the Bitcoin address 1G85cQXETuGeMGvniv5SuMACegCR6L51A5 has officially become the first recipient of Bitcoin 100. I wish to thank all those that have made this event possible. The list is way to long to thank everybody individually, but you all know who you are. Please consider donating bitcoins to the address provided if you have not done so already either directly or via honoring your pledge with Bitcoin 100. We promise not to chew your head off if you desire to send a few extra bitcents their way again.

The second pool is now currently being funded via the same address as before: 1BTC1oo1J3MEt5SFj74ZBcF2Mk97Aah4ac. We look forward to thanking those who contribute.

Just an update/recognition:
BurtWagner and Jul have honored their pledges, donating directly to the charity
Jimbit, meanig, wareen, and evoorhees have sent in their donations to the BTC1oo address after the lump sum was sent, and their donations were forwarded to the charity separately.

Also, I honored my 1BTC for the next charity http://blockchain.info/tx-index/3487901/66fb38160f2f03aef63f7c1fb42e8eb6385b134961d9bce30081e3cdafd6362d

A few people have already honored their pledges for the next charity, as seen on my tracking sheet.

We just sent 1BTC to 1G85cQXETuGeMGvniv5SuMACegCR6L51A5 from our vanity address.  Keep the charities coming!

Just sent my 1 BTC Smiley  Sent a PM to Rassah about it just now after he contacted me 2 days ago to let me know about our first accepting site.

Short of stringing a batch of user names together, I now wish to thank all those quoted above who have recently dontated to Grop B Strep International directly and indirectly, as well as those who have honored their pledges for the second pool. The list in the OP of ths thread has been updated, reflecting your contributions.

As I've stated to Rassah, my list has become basically a visual thingy, while his well kept ledger documents what has been received and sent more accurately. Thank you again, Rassah, for all your efforts.

Here, again, is the link to Rassah's ledger: LEDGER

My honoring of pledge is my second Bitcoin, for the next charity. I don't know if the OP is per charity, or cumulative and will keep growing as more people donate.

Your accounting system is way more accurate now than the one in the OP. I've opt to maintain it for as long as I possibly can solely for visualization purposes.

From what I can ascertain from the above, I should add 1 BTC each to the list in the OP for Jimbit, meanig, wareen, evoorhees, the joint, and you, Rassah. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'll update the list once I get clarification. Thanks, bud. (the joint is probably a given, but I'll wait just the same)

Happy, happy, joy, joy! I think we iz ready to send. http://blockexplorer.com/address/1G85cQXETuGeMGvniv5SuMACegCR6L51A5

Great job, joshbb. It's times like this that I wish there were more adjectives (or is it adverbs) in the English language to express how we, as a community, feel about your efforts.

I'm going to work on the first official blog post over at bitcoin100.org, for the other posts were just place holders. The post will be Group B Strep International related.

Cool, nice work setting this whole initiative up!

Thanks, Josh. I thought up Bitcoin 100 when theymos was kind enough to give me a three day time-out for posting off-topic, then extended it to ten days when I introduced Nikki the Bitch. That girl got me into so much trouble, for I came real close to being permanently banned.

Has there been any effort to get Daily Paul owner Michael Nystrom to start accepting Bitcoin? That's one of the biggest libertarian websites out there and getting him on board would be HUGE.

SOB! I was thinking of this idea the other day: http://www.dailypaul.com/221588/ive-got-a-golden-ticket-contest

Just found this: http://www.dailypaul.com/216112/i-want-to-turn-bitcoins-into-gold-a-sound-economy-experiment
