This is good news. Not a big news like a country legalizing bitcoin but a step toward the right direction at least. This kind of news brings positive effect to bitcoin awareness and mass adoption.
Yes I agree that this news can make bitcoin more popular among the people. Although not as big as the adoption of a country but a school that received bitcoin can teach many families that bitcoin can be used for various financial transactions. If this can be maintained and also disseminated to other places will definitely be a major effect for the development of bitcoin in the future.

This is pretty weird.

So they are no accepting credit cards. Good.
But.

Quote
But Mr Ciocca said the school won't profit from up-and-downs in the market. Tuition payments in Bitcoin - they also accept some other digital currencies - get converted to cash instantly.

The bitcoins will get converted instantly so you can do that only with an exchange and with a bank account.
So, why denying bank deposits in the first place?

Publicity stunt probably more than love for bitcoins.
Also, it's a bit late.

There was a time when accepting bitcoins was cool.

Already a school in India has started accepting bitcoin, so a pre school accepting bitcoin in New York doesn't look to be big. The reason is that the city has got majority of people aware about bitcoin as well the virtual currency compared to India, so this can be appreciated but this will happen commonly over the years to come.

Which city in India?

🖤😏
This is another topic where every body starts with a "WOW this is nice and good news hopefully we see more of this in the future as this will definitely help the growth and adoption of Bitcoin".
Now imagine Justin Bieber cums on some Bitcoin logos in a concert or music video, then we'll see millions of faggots and sissies around this forum. lol
Saying in to the face of parents that they only accept Bitcoin and nothing else requires some big balls I'll give him that.

"The head of two Montessori schools in New York won't let parents pay by credit card - but he is accepting Bitcoin."

Bitcoin accepted at New York pre-school.

This is something really positive thing that bitcoin is being adopted where is a tech-savvy next generation. I am sure in next few years we are going to see such things happening in most of the countries.

There is a school in India which started accepting bitcoin way back in 2016.

This School Accepts Bitcoin !.

No matter whether the owner of the school was just trying to generate some boost to his business by doing this or not, i think that in the end he is still acceptnig bitcoin, and that means a lot. A lot of close minded people haven't even heard about bitcoin, and for him to be able to accept it in a real life business is extremely cool. Just expanding the real life uses of bitcoin imo.

You would get in a world of trouble, if you only accepted Bitcoin and not your countries reserve/local currency. I would much rather opt for the option to give parents the option to pay full price, if they paid with any other payment option than Bitcoin and give a 10% discount for people who pay with Bitcoin. It will be illegal in many countries to do this and I know actions like this will generate a lot of complaints from parents. ^hmmmmmmm^

Well... I really don't see a problem with someone saying that i only accept bitcoin, nothing else. But i guess the 10% off if you use bitcoin would be an extra incentive for the parents to start using bitcoin and pay their son/daughter's fees with it.

There is nothing to comment on a leader, he is a talented person, and he has very daring thoughts in the work, maybe he saw the potential of bitcoin, and now he He started investing in it his way.

Exactly, I think it's a wise investment that will take a little time before  the parents and board of the school will appreciate the head for such an insightful investment. It speaks well for Bitcoin in newyork and the United States as a whole because this will create awareness and bring onboard more investors.

Lol guys, give him a break...

It's probable that this has been done as a part of a publicity stunt, but who cares? After all, he has done what he has claimed - accepted bitcoin. No matter how he does it, whether he converts his bitcoins into fiat or not, he is accepting bitcoin, and that is all he claims.

It would be definitely better if he kept the bitcoin himself, instead of cashing it out instantaneously. But it's his choice, maybe he thinks bitcoin is in a bubble right now and want to get out of it until the fork happens.

either way, it'll encourage economic activity with bitcoin, and one more bitcoin merchant is always better. So i see no negatives with this story whatsoever.

My friend share this news story with me the other day. More and more companies, entities, and overall people are accepting Bitcoin as legitimate payment and even more people know about blockchain technology.

Do they reject Credit cards but accept Bitcoin as  a payment method? wtf?
So that they think that Bitcoin is easier for parents to use? Or are they thinking that when they do that, every other school all over country will continue to use Bitcoin like them? So confused

Woah, i have actuall ynever heard of the school that started to accept bitcoin in 2016. Thanks for sharing.

In my opinion, this is obviously going to be a source of publicity for bitcoin. Though whether it's good or bad, i'm not that sure. The school seems to be looking at bitcoin as a quick way to make money, and the tuition fees that they charge is absolutely ridiculous anyways.

The whole thing is probably just a publicity stunt, to get this sense of prestigious feeling for school parents. He brings up some good points as to why he chose to start accepting bitcoin, but all of them seems to be contradictory when he said that he would be not holding bitcoin directly, but rather converting into fiat straightaway. As a bitcoiner, i believe that you should at least hold 50% of all your income in bitcoin if you're getting paid in bitcoin, and not convert the whole sum into fiat.

Why would anyone need to pay for anything offline using bitcoin? this is the one thing I could never understand, there is no bloody need for people to pay for anything offline, all we need is the ability to purchase items, digital goods only online when we're buying something from an online service.
Many people thinking that it's good if we could pay with bitcoin every where and every time we were about to purchase whatever it is but they're wrong, we only need to pay with bitcoin where the normal processors are denying us their services.

Good to see that bitcoin is havingvits level up. I hope this is true that even in school people use it as an option to pay tuition.I hope someday even in my country this thing will happen too or more than this because even in public market or store bitcoin is not visible to be part of their store. I hope adoptation of bitcoin will.continue to rise up like others did. It is a big wow for me to see bitcoin is spreading not only in stores but also in schools.I look forward for more of this kind of news and more than this, it seems this school.is a bitcoin enthusiast so they make a move that surely hit the public views of bitcoin in all.

Yeah. It is great to see Bitcoin spreading like that. I don't know how much truth there is in that story, but I have heard the Indian government recently passed a law for Bitcoin. Education is an important aspect in our world today and the fact that people are recognising Bitcoin as a currency and not just 'Internet Money', is great. Hopefully, the introduction of Bitcoin will aid the struggling households in countries like India.

Moreover, we may even see a price rise, which is great!

There's got to be more to this story. These schools are in lower Manhattan so these parents definitely have a good amount money and probably all have bank accounts....so why not just transfer him the money that way?

My guess would be these parents are trying to avoid reporting and paying taxes on their bitcoin profits. Getting him to take bitcoins is one way to cash out  without converting the bitcoin back to fiat and leaving an easy papertrail to follow.

If this were to be true, then it is a great step towards the wide use of Bitcoin all around. One should own a considerable amount of Bitcoin then to be able to cover the tuition fee of a pre-school student, especially at a school in New York? Only a few and mostly online enterprises accept Bitcoin and this kind of adoption would lead to the popularity of Bitcoin. However, the non-acceptance of credit cards is kind of dubious.
