Nah. Bitcoin is great as an investment and an alternative currency, but to be the main currency/replace the legal tender
of a whole country?
I truly do not see it happening. Maybe a century from now? Who knows whatever huge advances technology would have made by then. For now, there's just too many holes.
Also, by being the 'main currency', it'd have to be approved by the government. I just don't see a government backing/using something they don't have full control of. There's just too many sanctions they could take to prohibit/hinder the use of bitcoin.

I do not see bitcoin being a main currency, because being a main currency means being centralized and control by government.  Bitcoin is fitted being an alternative currency, it is its nature, decentralized and free from any regulatory grasp of the government.

Yes, it is most likely not going to be a main currency but, I was just wondering if you would like it as a main currency.

Only few of us would agree that bitcoin should be the main currency, because making bitcoin to be the main currency is like giving the Government a way to penetrate the core of bitcoin and take control of it, which is we don't want to happen. So, bitcoin should be remain what it is right now, maybe it would be good if bitcoin can be use in any transaction that we are going to have, but it is just a choice, I mean. if we don't have fiat, then we could use it, but never as the main currency.

I strongly agree that in the future bitcoin could be serve as the primary virtual currency that is used throughout the world. The user bitcoin is very much. development and growth also increased rapidly in many sectors.

I do not think bitcoin would be the primary virtual currency if the problem with its scalability is not fixed.  Ever thought about a scenario when 50% of the world population adopted bitcoin and send their transaction at the same time?  We can see people waiting for their transaction to be confirmed maybe for months.  I also think that transaction fee would be far too expensive than the fiat currency transfer if this transaction fee keep on increasing.  So I guess people will look for an alternative.

Well, maybe this time, a person needs to have a bitcoin, larger than had fiat in their pockets. if all rang already know the potential of bitcoin say acukup sure, will be very many people who are looking for bitcoin in the appeal fiat, and over time it will make bitcoin be the main currency

I was just curious but, what would you guys think if Bitcoin was the main currency of America. Would you like it and agree with it or would you agree with the current main currencie(s) we have.
I wouldn't mind because I really love Bitcoin. They would probably find a way to make people pay tax on what they through Bitcoin, which might make a couple of people really angry. Also, if America made Bitcoin their main supported currency, I think it would persuade a lot of other countries to follow in their footsteps and they might also make Bitcoin their primary currency. I'm sure that Bitcoin becoming the primary currency of America is everyone's dream, but I doubt it will ever happen. But we can still dream about it. Smiley

Bitcoin as main currency is hard to others. Though some countries bitcoin is popular and they already use it in their daily lives. But, not all can easily adopt this kind of currency. Let bitcoin as it is a decentralized one not be controlling by the government.
I wonder why there are lots of questions like that. Isn't great to just add bitcoin as one form of currency as a virtual currenct but not to replace any local fiat (since it is really hard to replace it) and to adopt it first by all nations and for all merchants to use it as payment especially thru online shopping, etc.

actually that would be a great thing if it could happen. bitcoin as a currency can function very well and there is nothing that can stop or restrict it. but bitcoin needs to evolve first to adapt to the new world with more users than it had back in 2011 for example.
we need scaling first and then an stable price, then we can see a very good currency.
I'm sure that's everyone's dream, we want to see a full massive adoption with bitcoin so we can consider this as the main currency but for online only. Bitcoin is very good in terms of the features as it's secured and fast, that's the reason why we see the adoption rate is increasing but until such time there will be a massive adoption, whales will always has the chance to manipulate the price which would not attract big investors to integrate bitcoin in their system.

There is simply no way for bitcoin to become the main currency of the US or any other big country since they will lose the ability to print money at will and that could be a weakness against other governments that can, so let bitcoin be an alternative but never allow a government to take control over it.

From my perspective in already a world currency even it does not become th main currency of the united states many countries are using it more than there own fiat currency like india and china
And now a brand new member of the bitcoin community has now become Japan one the biggest investors of bitcoin.
America doesn't want to put their money on a digital currency cause they'll lose control to the people and that would be the end of US dollars.

If Bitcoin is an official currency on any country I think it would not last for long. One main reason is that its transaction time is slow, too slow to be practical to use in our daily lives. Imagine that you are in line on McDonalds and you look the one in front on you not taking orders but waiting for the transaction to be completed. If I am that man on Queue I will be mad of our money system.
yep duration of transaction confirmation is still a constraint for bitcoin users, I think it should confirm bitcoin not really problem because every have bitcoin transaction, the transaction can not be canceled and most likely bitcoin it will remain to the destination address

This could happen. But with the technology that is in place with the blockcha1n, transactions can be done and don't need to be confirmed.
As long as they hit the blockcha1n they are received. And it is up to the receiver to wait for the confirmations to complete.
This is how bitcoin casinos do their deposits. As soon as the bitcoins are sent they accept that as the transaction and don't wait for the queue to complete.
Try it for yourself on directbet or whatever gambling site you want. They allow you to use your balance as soon as they see the send on the receiving end and it is immediately available to the player.

Bitcoin as main currency is a great idea once its intoduced to the society today but I don't think government will strongly support this, because its hard for them to educate people on this. People were still hesitant to adopt digital currency and for now still my friends knows me having this thinks that I am bluffing them which they missingly think am making stories.

many people will accept and use bitcoin if becoming main currencies America. but with characteristics bitcoin not created for a country's currency.
I'd rather Bitcoin being an alternative currency without being controlled by the government and safe for everyone who seeks privacy

For now the Bitcoin wil not be a country's main currency but, it can be the main currency for you as an individual. For me, Bitcoin it's the main currency (because my local currency it's garbage), i save my money on bitcoin and do my monthly budget based on BTC. I compare the BTC->LocalCurrency Tx to going to a ATM to have some cash.
if you have know bitcoin well , then no wonder you call your nation currency garbage ,
let the current situation be like this , all fiat sucks , regulated by greedy people ,
while bitcoin run decentralized , nothing can touch your money but yourself ,
that was amazing idea from satoshi , thanks for it, we must be grateful.

Bitcoin probably won't ever be the "main" currency of a country.
Its decentralized.. and thats enough reason to not take it as main currency, if you look it from the side of government.
But i can imagine BTC as a currency of the people who wan't to be able to make payments (pretty) fast all
around the world within a few minutes.
Additionally its Pseudonymous.
Decentralized, anonymity and the important thing the small blocksize of bitcoin was making the unstable network for bitcoin itself. According to the unconfirmed transaction, the word of main currency will never happen.
