I dont think so. The title should be: "ethereum: best investment in 2017". Ethereum has grown stronger than Bitcoin in this year since it has increased the price more than 5 times since the early 2017. Well, 2016 is for Bitcoin. 2017 is for ethereum and other cryptos

Bitcoin price has outperformed every reserve and fiat currency across the world year to date, yet again. By outperforming the US dollar by over 30 percent, Bitcoin surpassed the growth of the Mexican Peso, Silver, Gold and Russian Ruble to become the best performing currency so far in 2017.

Thus far, 2017 has been a successful year for both Bitcoin investors and alternative cryptocurrency (altcoin) traders, with leading altcoins or crypto assets such as Ethereum achieving a $5 bln market cap in early April. The Bitcoin market, however, experienced some major changes in its ecosystem earlier this year. The major driving force of Bitcoin price in 2017 is suspected to be the resolution of the Bitcoin network’s current scalability problems.

The Bitcoin network’s one MB cap on block size is causing Blockchain congestion, a drastic increase in fees at times and long confirmation times. If Bitcoin scalability issues are addressed within this year, with innovative solutions such as Bitcoin Core’s Segregated Witness (SegWit), Andrew Lee’s Extension Blocks or other potential emerging solutions, Bitcoin price will most likely demonstrate an exponential mid and long-term increase.

Would you invest in BTC this year?

I think it's too late to invest in bitcoin. Since the price of one coin is too high and no one knows what will happen tomorrow.
Uhm, you don't have to buy 1 Bitcoin and for most people in first world countries that have a job, the price certainly isn't too high.
Yeah you don't know what will happen tomorrow, but that's the case for every single investment.

I guess we'll see in a few years if it would've been worth it to have invested now.

I think that OP and also many participants in this thread has forgotten one very important thing.
Bitcoin has risen up to 1300$ (it is even about 1330$ per one now, lol) so the price exceeds the price of gold, also it is basically the all-time high, which is a very important thing for bitcoin.
Another significant change I have spotted right now, is that the 1300$ levels was a really big resistance area, and now the candles have broken it from the downside.

I think that investing in bitcoin might be a good idea, but only if you want to hold them during next 3-4 years. In other case, I would just wait for the incoming price drop, because the current price is simply too high (at least for me).

Well you forgot one thing dude. It is now almost at the price range of diamond, 1 carat of diamond.

Investing in bitcoin is for long term. Because the price of it is increasing up to the point of comparing it to the price of 1 carat of diamond. So its really worth to invest it now and its never to late. By the next couple of years bitcoin might be reaching the 2-3K USD or more. And mass adoption is also there so its better to invest in bitcoin because its gonna be worth in long term.
If you want to be among The richest people on earth before 2020 then buy bitcoins now and hold. The way price is pumping up this days I think very soon maybe some where before the end of 2017 bitcoin might be trading above $2000. May the gods of bitcoin be among us.
