Meanwhile, bitcoin just got integrated with Uber for tipping drivers. Isn't that a good news?

https://twitter.com/Melt_Dem/status/895466611477544960
so this apps will allow bitcoiners to give tips for the drivers who will served a convenient way for them, but it is not the way of paying the service
itself right? let see how this tweets will bring up something for both btc and uber system.
It will be better if it become the mode of transaction on paying rather than just a tip on driver on users. Because if it will become am option for commuter on paying their bills or rides it will serve as a factor for Bitcoin development and decentralization for a better way of transaction and for the progress of its price. But of course support is highly needed on this project where users of Bitcoin must take it as a good option on daily transaction on Uber.

That's a good news since Uber in the Philippines is very popular. Actually it is more popular than the traditional taxi. If they are going to accept bitcoin, much better. But the transaction fee plus the rate of meter, isn't that a bit expensive? Anyway, this is a good help for bitcoin because this will promote bitcoin more. And hopefully bitcoin will be a part of people for their everyday lives. Good job Uber.

Fees is still not that big an issue because of Segwit implementation. But the restriction would be that people themselves won't be ready to spend Bitcoin (a deflationary currency) than its inflationary counterpart fiat currency for everyday transactions. Bitcoin mainly is considered as an investment asset and not a substitute to everyday currency. So the holders themselves would be restricting Bitcoin's utility.

Actually this step might be a vital factor for Bitcoin decentralization and for acceptance. Because if it can be a mode of transaction on transportation just like Uber or taxi people can prefer on supporting Bitcoin because it can serve as a more faster and reliable way of transaction specifically on paying.

Well for giving tips to drivers it is a good thing but not advisable when paying them on their services. I still prefer hard cash money or credit cards(if possible) to pay drivers since bitcoins is not yet supported by most of the uber service givers. And moreover, bitcoins in not yet supported throughout the globe and there were still countries who were not yet accustomed to it.

Sounds great but I'm not sure that will be very much accepted in my country. Maybe I'm worng but since there are not many bitcoin users I suppose that not many drivers would also like to accept bitcoin. Only those who take cards should have no problem because in that case the client could easily make payment with bitcoin debit card. I see no other way.

That's a good move. I think btc's long confirmation time was one of the reasons why it will only apply in tips, not actual fares. No Uber driver wants to spend a whole hour waiting for the completion of payment by the customer. Uber's decision to incorporate bitcoin in their system is however awesome news to many enthusiasts.

The driver will not wait for anything.
The payment process is on the UBER side so any problems with your cc or debit card will be solved by UBER not by the driver.

But still can't find anything official about the tipping app that was launched a few months ago and bitcoin.

It is a good alternate payment but there is a transaction fee when sending bitcoins. But since people who book taxis are those who have extra money so it is not a problem for using bitcoin as payment. Just an alternative method of paying but if you are paying exact fiat money its should be the main method of paying. The idea is good just like using credit card for paying. It is not bad to implement this idea in paying. Also, it is convenient to rich people.

If you think people who drive with a taxi around town are rich people then you really need to dig more on the subject, go out more cause you've got such a biased view on the world it's sad.And no, it's not convenient to really rich people at all, cause that's the moment you don't want to tap twice on things you can solve by one tap.If you really don;t care about money your only words will be "here is my cc card" not let me scan this qr code and see how much tx I pay.

that's a good news but whether it is applied in all countries, i think it difficult for this to happen because as we know that some states bitcoin are banned. It certainly would not be easy for uber to expect that many uber service users will use bitcoin for tip the driver or pay the service.

Uber driver is getting progressive. It is not yet Uber directly accepting bitcoin but I think it is the driver's initiative to put his bitcoin address out there for tips. Bitcoin is getting attention though from his passengers who are not yet familiar with bitcoin. A good move, I guess.

wow, its good. many people are now like it because it is quiete safe than in taxi or any commuting cars. i am one of those people who choose uber cars than any cars out there. i know that it is safe and there are so many patient drivers there unlike in others so it is a big help and good news for me as well.

That's definitely good news but it's only for tipping, I would be happier if you could use it to pay more often. But then if you are tipping from Bitcoins, it would be expensive tip + the fees. I did rather tip them off via Fiat and in these times when the prices are rising so much, I don't think one would want to tip them via Bitcoins until someone does decides to make his driver day. Honestly those Uber drivers will soon grow rich and own a car, at the rate the prices are rising. Is this service available for Croatia Uber boats? Was planning a trip will try it once.

Bitcoin on Uber, that would be great.  I saw a video wherein a reporter ride an uber and paying bitcoins.  There is a third party involved maybe, bitcoins to third party and then third party to uber.  Anyways, that is a good news considering that little by little bitcoins are being recognized.  And as uber uses bitcoin as a payment, those passengers who are not familiar with bitcoins will be curious and maybe try to search what bitcoin is all about.

Pretty cool, but what if it goes beyond just tipping Bitcoin. What if someone develops a blockchain to compete with Uber so it's cheaper for riders and drivers earn more, Bitcoin could be implemented inside it as a form of payment as well.

I think bitcoin usage in paying for fares and tips for Uber drive is a good option for the travelers but unfortunately it can only happen in few developed countries and lots of under-developed countries cant still use Bitcoin not for the reason of ignorance of bitcoin by people by the technology and other things.

This is a good alternative transaction if a transport system such as uber is able to receive payments using bitcoin, if this is true will be applied by uber transport payments, then bitcoin will gradually become more popular among the public.
Very supportive of every country will follow this alternative, very easy to use. Hopefully it is not applied only in strong countries like Japan America and other European countries. One day everybody uses to trade, do vacations and more. Trust in Bitcoin will increase. I am sure that bitcoin will be around the world. Wink
Uber took a very good decision because this company not only existing in one country. In most of the country, we will see uber cabs. I also use this cab regularly, but here we don't have this facility. I think they implement one by one country. And yes this great move from uber to reach bitcoins to more people.

Whether the uber itself is the one behind this or a particular uber driver, the thing is the free advertisement which would raise awareness to people considering that a lot prefer uber than regular transportation system. If we use the analogy of an ad-campaign, this type of advertisement will get a lot of impressions.
