It's great news, that you are able to tip someone for their work with bitcoin.

But tipping is tipping, and is only a part of the etiquette of certain countries. Plus, Uber isn't behind this. Some Uber driver who has some sort of experience in bitcoin came up with this idea, and is taking advantage of bitcoin's instant transactions to receive tips.

It would be nice if Uber supported bitcoin to pay fares. I'm sure that drivers will support this, since paypal is reversible and drivers can indeed be charged back if the customer decides to use a hacked PayPal account or just chargeback for no reason even if the service was of high quality.

I'm pretty sure that this isn't actually implemented by Uber themselves, but rather by the driver who put up this sign by himself, but still. It shows that bitcoin is really widening its reach in the community. It's not just limited to a bunch of people sitting behind their laptops anymore, it's everywhere and easily seen and accepted.

I still remember back in 2013 the price of bitcoin was pretty high(for back then, of course), but people didn't have any real uses other than using bitcoin online to buy goods(sometimes questionable goods too).

But now, everything has changed. Bitcoin has got a complete ecosystem surrounding it, but we still need more merchants to accept it.

If it just for tipping, ordinary people who dont know about bitcoin wont care about it.
Why would they waste their time to get bitcoin just for the tip. They would rather use their cards for that or maybe just fiat.
It is just a waste of time. It doesnt matter for many Uber customers.

This is good news! more developer now is eager to developed new apps in order us to use bitcoin easily in every transaction we made like in Uber! If it is fully developed and running, I think we are safe if we ride uber taxi without bringing real paper money for fee.

This seems not yet available in my country, but I'm glad to hear uber has received bitcoin, it's a favorite app that I use often. And I hope they can get a lot of benefits for receiving bitcoins.

Great news! I'm dreaming to see Bitcoin as payment option for Uber as well Smiley

I agree it will not be a surprise if btc will be accepted as fare in Uber. Drivers will not only have income from the fares but also an investment as well. Though for now it's just for a tip I think they deserve some since they offer convenience to people. It's the convenience we are paying them for afterall.

That is really amazing thing to know that someone somewhere is trying to push the bitcoin very hard. This implementation will lead to use of bitcoin on the mass scale. Just imagine how popular bitcoin will become when every user will pay in the tips with bitcoin. Plus if someone doesn’t know about it then Uber might just make them aware of it and users then can find out more abut it. Nice steps by Uber. If brands like this kept implementing bitcoin services then that will make healthy bitcoin in the future. I have also read on the forum that Burger King has started accepting bitcoin in the Russian area. Thats really major change in all.

It would be that much better if you were able to pay for the entire journey using bitcoin, unless you are going to be tipping more than a $1 the fees will just eat you up, nice move anyway.

Is this only available for tipping services and not for payment of the fare for the trip? I think it would be more Uber integrated Bitcoin in their payment system and allowed bitcoin users to easily pay for the trips with the use of BTC.

I personally love the service of Uber because they provide security and convenience to consumers who don't own cars, like me. Unlike with regular taxis, it may be availed at any time and at your specific location, and is available for groups of people. They really make it a point to cater to customer satisfaction, and they continuously strive to improve their services for the consumers. It's innovations like this that make their customers choose Uber and become loyal to them.

More power to Uber! I hope they continue to provide good service.

wow its that a good news great thats the prof bitcoin continues the popularization as the online currency.
That’s a good news. But I am not sure is it expensive than normal payment. Because it takes the bitcoin transaction fee?  Anyway, that’s a progressive news of bitcoin technology. I hope the day is not far we can hear bitcoins are popular to use in glossary or supermarkets.

Thats good to know that bitcoin is being used by major industries too.
If merchants like this keeps enrolling into bitcoin services then bitcoin will have more and more value sooner. So today it is at 4000 USD, if more merchant like this keep coming then that would be more than double. Very interesting services by UBER. All the best bitcoiners, hope we get it in every corner of the world. Best way to promote the bitcoin.

There's no problem now that I want to ride Uber but I have to confirm it first if Uber here in my country is accepting bitcoin. As I have an older friend who's a driver with Uber for sure he is very much interested to try it out with me. Another way to make the demand of bitcoin higher, great news!

In my experience with uber, there is lesser hassle compared to the usual taxi. A nicer idea if I can use bitcoin for the payment. With the great reputation of uber in the Philippines and the growing usage of bitcoin for easier transaction, a thumbs up for this. I hope they would allow it sooner

It must have been a simple strategy of the driver. We have seen lots of tricks from Uber drivers to get more tips and this may be one of them. If Uber starts accepting BTC then it will be a serious boost for the crypto universe.

If all passengers will tip the uber driver, I'm sure that he will raise a lot of money. Bitcoins price is now rising and it is very lucky of him to have a tip such as that. And time will come that tip is much more valuable than the fare.

Uber officially doesn't accept bitcoins, but Bitcoin can be used for Uber by paying through Shift Card (Coinbase) or Xapo debit card or through other virtual cards (bitcoin).

Earlier some Uber drivers put up a QR code on the back of their seat for tipping. The tipping app mentioned in the above tweet is Vugo, it has been around since 2015.

Now the Bitcoin is being used to tip Uber drivers, a feature which has not been possible so far for the users of the popular service. The new application to tip with Bitcoins is called Vugo and has been created by a former Uber driver James Bellefeuille.

The new Vugo Bitcoin tipping application has already seen more than 3,000 Uber drivers integrating it into their car. The application needs to be loaded onto a tablet which the driver installs on the backseat, allowing satisfied users to tip the driver through Bitcoins.

Maybe Uber would add bitcoin option in future when it's more popular, instant confirmation (possible with LN), and less volatile.

Yea, I doubt if Uber has any official stance on this, but I know they do not accept Bitcoin payment for the service. I tried

before and was denied. I actually asked the Uber drivers if they could use ChangeTip, when it was still around and they

did not want to do that.  Huh

That's a good news since Uber in the Philippines is very popular. Actually it is more popular than the traditional taxi. If they are going to accept bitcoin, much better. But the transaction fee plus the rate of meter, isn't that a bit expensive? Anyway, this is a good help for bitcoin because this will promote bitcoin more. And hopefully bitcoin will be a part of people for their everyday lives. Good job Uber.
That's a great news for everyone here in the Philippines especially for the people who uses uber as there transportation. Anyway,  it is a great idea that they made bitcoin on uber besides bitcoin is very safe and convenient for every consumers here in the Philippines.

Man, stop arguing whether this would be good or would not be good in the long run; the idea is to introduce BITCOINS to masses. The more they hear about bitcoins the more curious they get. It would also be best to put BITCOIN stickers in UBER.
