So I posted in the wrong thread yesterday haha, thanks Indymoney for pointing that out. Silly me. The more I see it, the more I'm thinking Real's going to snatch this, and if they actually progress I also have quite a nice sum waiting for me on a bet yet to settle on Real progressing made pre lockdown.

Still tinkering with my picks. We're bunched up so close together I know a half point could be the difference between prizes and no prizes =D

@Trofo: I also want 2nd place fair;)

@leea-1334: I'm counting on the tournament's favourite sons to go through.

The wait is over, Champions League is finally back and I must admit I am looking forward to it way more than I should. We had some sort of preview with Europa League but it is never the same. After most of the Europa League games finishing without surprises I have a feeling we must have one today but I can't decide if Real or Lyon have more chances to produce one.

Real is having a bad result from first leg, playing away and missing Ramos. That should be too much to overcome against City but than CL is Real playground and if they feel good in some competition it is here.

I didn't watch Lyon at all this season but they managed to play 0:0 in regular time against PSG so they know how to defend. Juve did not impress me much at season end and they conceded a lot of goals. If Lyon manages to score one goal Juve has to score 3 to pass and I feel like that could be a bit too much for them.

Don't forget to put your picks guys, I want to get that 2nd place fair  Cool

I am not in a winning spot yet but I was there before and I know I have a good chance,,, there is nothing left for me to support in the current stage so I can enjoy the whole campaign properly unlike last season:)

I believe Lyon can score at least 1 goal but Ronaldo is like Ramos. This is his world!

^  I wouldn't say that.  Sure City's the favorite by the books but it's the CL.  Anything could happen esp with the shorter format, the covid situation and player fatigue after playing two months worth of league matches in a month..?  Lol.

I was thinking Real could make a comeback you know. If it was normal a City’s fans were there I’d think differently but I have a sneaky suspicion Real will find a way, this is their competition after all.

I think Chelsea will lose the return leg too, I expect Barca & Juve to get through also.

I think there should be one upset in these four legs, but I'm banking on desperation from the older players to win to take all points, rather than the hunger from younger players. Hunger has to also be channeled by the coach and team, which I'm not quite sure Lampard has (he will get there).

City's performance does not depend much on the fans in the stands. they have been the subject of ridicule several times due to the weaker response of the fans. I'm pretty sure of their clear victory.
In fact, one statistic info. Real Madrid in the knockout phase played seven times: 1 wins, 1 drawn and 5 loses... does not seem encouraging.

Haha yeah, what was it now, "we're not really here" was their lockdown motto? I don't really agree to call kids plastic fans and all that, I love seeing kids support teams, but yeah you sort of get the feeling with some fans that they're not that into the team so much. I know they got player chants too but don't hear them so much (or I can't anyway).

Stats matter I agree but still, this is City's to lose, and they've shown us they've remembered how to lose this season!

^  I don't really watch La Liga much but after covid, don't you think Real plays to how good the opposition is?  Like if it's playing vs a bad side, they play kinda bad.

I know they are a lot of games against outsiders wons after a lot of luck and some questionable referee decisions. although they ended up as winners, in the end, they were not dominant. it helped them a lot a bad performance of Barca, so they didn’t have too much pressure from that side.

I would have liked to watch all those matches. I'll probably watch the City/Madrid and Barca/Napoli as I think those will be more entertaining/closer.
Yeah, I also would like all games, maybe except Bayern - Chelsea LOL. But even in normal situation, when we aren't in pandemy, 2 round of 16 games are always played on same time and I really don't like that.

One off games for the 1/4 & semi finals devalues the competition for me. There should be a * next to the name of the winner on thr trophy. The whole format of the competition has changed.
I also have similar opinion that changed format devalues competition a bit. But we live in very strange times and I think that such competition is better than nothing. I think that people after 20-30 years will remember that 2020 season wasn't usual...

Smart bet's on City for sure, but I'm going with Real for the value bet. And yeah, I'm still toying with the idea of Atalanta parlayed with Real, but I'm probably better off just taking single bets on both, or parlaying handicaps.

Barca, Real, Juventus are the obvious value parlays for me. A single on Chelsea (Bayern will be happy to lose 1-0 or something) might also look tasty, does anyone seriously think we'll have a new CL winner? This format could throw up a surprise.

Anyway, after the lockdowns, dunno...  Everything is up in the air.  One leg for the quarter finals and the semi finals?  Ugh.  Luck plays a huuuge factor.

Yup..  And it would totally suck for City or some other club to win their first CL trophy this way.  Lawl.  I kinda hope PSG or Juve wins it.  Cheesy

What about City's pedigree? They've been on fire recently as well. I wouldn't be surprised if Real went through but it's going to be a hell of a tough game for them playing away and also with a goal deficit to get past. Isn't Ramos suspended as well. Either way my money is on City here.

This game can go to any side but after the first match, City looks much better, also after restart Real did not impress me against much weaker teams in LA Liga. I would not be surprised if Real finish this stage as Liverpool in the last game against City. I think City is in the best form of all remainings teams in CL.

btw. Someone knows, how will be counted drawn games in Superbru? The result on regular 90 minutes, or result after extra time of the game?

I agree with guys who are saying that single game gives advantage to underdogs. It's just 90 minutes of football. While in 2 leg series, teams with better and more deep squad have advantage.
And I agree about Atalnta, maybe I will even make bet for their win. It's enough to see how they are playing after restart - 6 wins in 6 games. While PSG didn't played for so long, it will be difficult for them to return in action. BTW, Lyon are same situation. Otherwise I wouldn't write them off against Juventus.
And single leg fixtures is bad for our pool - it means there will be less games, what makes too difficult to change our positions. Now it's impossible to reach @big_daddy
What's annoying though is that they've seemingly arranged all the games to kick off at the same time. What's the point in that? There's four games kicking off at the same time on the 12th. Now we've gotta choose which game. They should have played them all on different days to maximise viewing.
Where did you find it. I see that all quarterfinals will be played at different days, on 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th.

Quarters might be but not the rest of the games before it:

Just giving this thread a little bumpski to get us back in the CL zone  Smiley

2 matches next Friday -

Juventus v Lyon - can’t see Juve losing this, but if Lyon do lose , it will be their first season without European football since 96/97 - maybe an extra incentive ?

Man City v Real Madrid - really tough to call this one, gotta assume pedigree will take Real through ?

Odds are looking weird because one side of the draft is much stronger then the other. These odds on Real look very juicy and I will take them for some very low stake. If Real by any chance manages to pass City, they will be a favorite to win the CL. We are basically getting odds of 27/1 for Real win against City.

I actually thought about this myself. I agree Real would be a favorite for the trophy if they qualified to the next round.

City has a good result and Real is playing without red-carded Ramos but these odds do make sense for a smaller side-bet.

Ramos is the crucial factor and such an influential player. He single handedly removed Liverpool chances in the 2018 final by cynically taking out Salah. Can he have the same influence to his players off the pitch as on it ?

If Real wins this one they are the champions 100 %  Cheesy

I can agree with you on that, have you looked at what price is Real to win the CL? it's up to 27/1
You think that we can jump in on a "just for fun bet"?  Cool

(Atalanta's price is almost 3 times lower  Roll Eyes )

Wow - that’s crazy ! I just checked the odds now and it’s true ! Man City and Bayern are favourites, I just can’t see City getting anywhere near the final!
