Dont lie Wink

You made all the original comments before feeling the need to invest time to understand poolhopping better Smiley

Once you decided to stop being lazy you realised that poolhopping is very practical.

I just find it mildly amusing how you changed your stance completely, but welcome to the side of the good guys.

I will acknowledge it is a shit load more work - that's what makes it more fun.  I actually pride myself on being able to take in new information and change my stance.  I never understood the concept of make up your mind, and stick to it no matter what.  It's that kind of crack thinking that got us into 2 wars

You know you are watching your stats screen too closely when you start seeing these:

[00:26:02] RPC request [dead1000] submitted to BTC World

I do the same man, just stare at the stats for hours, the day c00w feels like they're waisting console space I'm fucked Tongue

edit: @clipse, gnaget would probably one day tell his story and how he got into hopping with the others, until then let's all make good use of his additions to the bH code   Cool

Wow gnadget, what happened to you?

a few things:
1) In my mind, it is unethical, but a hell of a lot more fun
2) The majority see no problem with it
3) I was shocked to learn some pools actually like hoppers, and so be it
4) I like money

is there also a benefit with pools that take measures against hopping?

e.g.:

deepbit/ btcguild - delayed stats
bitp.it / eligius - smpps

I am on TPG in Australia. I can't see the reason why I can access everything from the browser but it doesn't work in bithopper.
Maybe a small bug in the code, maybe local issues, I can't see the error..

weird though - I git pulled just today, not seeing continuos errors now.

The only problem I have is that payout stats aren't saving - just getting reset after a restart.

sorry cant help

I definately have a problem with the APIs.. The shares are not read/displayed correctly.

[22:41:24] Error in pool api for polmine
[22:41:24] Error in pool api for mtred
[22:41:24] Error in pool api for bclc
[22:41:24] Error in pool api for nofeemining
[22:41:24] Error in pool api for ozco
[22:41:25] slush: 521484
[22:41:25] triple: 8315161

Just downloaded the latest bithopper (zip of master), used the default config and changed usernames&passwords.

Can you guide me to fix the API problem please?!

You move hashingpower from pools with bad luck to pools with (hopefully) more luck, by hopping.

This is a ridiculous statement. Pool hoppers do not control the pools luck

Well you could say it switches from a lake to a pond in hopes of catching more fish.

Close analogy however Id say its more the case of switching from a lake to a pond where the avg amount of weight per fish is the same but you have fewer yet bigger fish in the pond thus standing a chance to catch more overall weight quicker rather than alot of smaller weight fish.

By putting in this stupid statement we all now agree that poolhopping doesn't increase the pie.
It only increases the piece of the pie of the poolhoppers.

So, it's stealing from the honest miner that stays at the pool.

You could ask "so, why don't you start Poolhopping?"

If everyone would start Poolhopping, it won't have any use...

If everyone started to poolhop I think I would make even more bitcoins purely because majority of the poolhoppers would end up doing it inefficiently or just keep using the defaults in bithopper for instance whereas the more profitable hoppers would make constant adjustments.

Wow gnadget, what happened to you?

I read the following in the poolhopping ethical or not thread.

Before you comment, please give me one example where a pool opperator does not allow it, and is trying to stop it...Those are the pools you should join.

Look at the comment right above yours, btcguild is going out of their way to discourage pool hoppers, and yet he triumphantly claims to still pull it off.

I would agree that anyone who thinks it is perfectly ethical to pool hop is an unethical person and I would not casually do business for them...  after all what other ways do they "maximize their profits"...  If I want to buy a card from someone, maybe they don't mention it locks up after an hours use.  After all, that is just maximizing profits.

You can rationalize it all you want, but you have to acknowledge it is only a rationalization.  I'm sure you have yourself convinced, but people like me do not see it that way.  We see it as dishonest, and the people who do it as dishonest.

Damn, I didnt know we had such a tightly winded bitcoin community.

Bitcoins is current an arms race, every edge is important. Do you think its all fairies/pixies and every man should get his fair share?

If money is involved, the person who can find the biggest edge comes out ahead and that is what bitcoins relate to atm, trading is the game and value for trading is the ingredients.

As soon as there is more use for bitcoins the madness of finding a new edge will arrive.

We may aswell add a tagline to bitcoins, "The morally just Currency".

Embrace it and stop sounding like a bunch of priests who feel they must confess 24/7.

We all choose what game we play in life.  One of the level 1 games is exactly as you describe: "Pigs at the trough".  I, for once, choose not to step over everyone else for the slightest advantage, and I disagree that every last percent needs to be squeezed out.  People who feel that way care nothing for the fellow miners or community, only care about taking whatever they can get at whatever cost.  Not very enlightened if you ask me.

This list goes on about your comments in that thread, did us evil poolhoppers break your religious heart? Tongue

Whats cooking?
